My goodness, this thread takes me back in time! Mighty_turf, I ended up not using a solar cover on my 10x12 HFGH (decided my climate really didn't require it) so I am no help on best places to purchase. I believe conventional wisdom is that most heat loss in a greenhouse occurs through the roof. If I were to purchase one I'd definitely cover the roof, and probably lap it down the sides a bit, depending on the size I ended up ordering. Hopefully others here will have more specifics for you. If not, I'd consider starting a new thread with your specific questions about solar pool covers, to get a few more eyeballs on your questions. (Sometimes newer threads get more attention...?) When you orient your house, try to have it on a bit of an angle, so that no side faces dead north. The north side tends to be cold and uninviting, and the lack of sunshine encourages mold and algae growth on the siding. We rotated our house about 30 degrees, so the back gets morning sun, although in the winter, the sun just barely hits the back. Our view is directly north, so the temptation would have been to face the house that way, but we still have a great view, and a little sun on the back deck. Make sure your basement is properly detailed to keep moisture out. This includes waterproofing, drainage at the footing, gravel backfill, proper grading away from the foundation for drainage, and gutters to prevent large quantities of water from dumping directly at the top of the foundation. That way, the basement space will be usable and pleasant. Our basement in upstate SC is the exact same temperature range as Annie's, so we haven't added any HVAC, although we may add a mini-split should we use the space. Summer humidity is an issue here in the south, so we run a dehumidifier in the warmer months.

I have never understood why astrologers would go to the effort to learn the constellations and when they will appear in the sky, and where relative to the constellations the planets can be found, without then also learning that the locations of the planets are predictable because of the physics of mass and gravity. And the same math that will determine where the planets will be, also clearly shows that the gravitational influence exerted on you by any of the non-earth planets is significantly less than that exerted on you by a large truck driving past your house.

Wow what a view! Just gorgeous!!! Don’t blame you for not wanting to cover up even for a minute. I also didn’t want shades and I have just installed solar film on our back windows, I also didn’t want to darken the room.. We installed a film that has very little color in them but supposedly blocks like 97% of the harmful UV rays. You cannot tell that they have it on. I was just saying though what if this is all hype and they really aren’t blocking the rays?! Haha I have only had them about three months so no way to know for sure I guess. I really haven’t noticed a difference at all with them on. When you touch the glass they are hot though so maybe not allowing the heat to pass through.
