I spent three hours this morning between Urgent Care and picking up the prescription needed for my tick bite. I have the classic bulls-eye and swelling in the area. I love my trusty tick remover. It did a great job. The doctor examined the area with a magnifier and green lamp and said I got the whole tick. If anyone is interested, it looks like a measuring spoon with a v-shaped slit. It's called Ticked Off. No, I'm not angry. LOL Just thought I'd pass the info on. Years ago I got the first one at a vet's office for about 25 cents. They're now $7.95 because they're in a fancy package with a clever name but they work great ! I have several of them so I can find one when I need it and ordered them for several friends, too, to make the shipping charges worthwhile. If you have a pet that picks up ticks, they are well worth it. Obviously, I use it on myself, too. The nice part is, the tick winds up in the bowl of the spoon and you can just flush it down the toilet.

I'd be ticked off if a tick bit me and made me spend 3 hours running around on a Saturday. Sorry a blood sucker got you, and thank you for the information. I'm going to be getting some ticked offs. The dogs get an occasional tick.

I have two tick removers, and I think one of them looks like yours. (I'm too lazy to get up and look.)

With your symptoms, I hope they gave you a couple of month's worth of doxycycline. And if doxy is what you're taking, be careful to keep your head covered at all times in the sun. I didn't know this the first time I took it, and I lost a lot of hair that summer. You should probably cover the rest of you too, or slather with sunscreen and limit your exposure.

I omitted Frontline from my initial post accidentally, we have been using this for a couple years now, initially it worked very well and we would find ticks on the floor, some dead and some which had perhaps bailed off the dog, dead one's which were partially engorged but still in/on the dog. The effectiveness has waned over the last year and I find, during my twice daily close inspections, ticks in various states of engorgement regularly. Being yellow (the dog) the ticks are very easy to spot and usually they come out on top of the fur within a few moments of his laying down and I can walk over and simply pick them off and put them in my alcohol filled tick-jar; the only way to truly grasp the sheer number of ticks I find on him. He got lime disease two years ago, it was amazing in that it dropped him in three days; he went from his normal extremely active self, to me carrying him to the car for a trip to the vet in 72 hours flat. I presume that any mammal can contract lime disease? I am wondering, with their prevalence here, how much of an issue we will have with the goats, donkey, pony we are preparing for, and ticks/lime. I know right now I spend ten minutes in the AM and ten minutes in the PM with the dog giving a good petting/scratching/brushing in search of ticks and if the case will be the same with the other animals I fear I could be spending an inordinate amount of time searching them for ticks. Might cause me to reconsider.

You're going to have more trouble than the birds are. Birds are immune to the effects of capsaicin, unlike mammals (I figured out that the squirrel digging in my potted peppers was burying nuts in the nice soft dirt, he didn't nibble. But the turkeys were eating the peppers in the garden til I put the deer netting we'd taken down for Irene back up.). In fact, they often include dried chiles in parrot mixes. Too bad for your friend, though.

Yes , definitely those two will have problems. Apparently i remember her telling me the night she was leaving that she signed some sort of contract stating that if there was a fight like this again then its straight divorce...i thought about later andi'm still laughing! I went for marriage counciling for a few months. My husband refused cause he had issues about councilors since his previous marriage failed and he looks at them as a last resort. I personally like saving something at the beginning...no point in waiting till the end...there might not be anything to save at times! Anyways...i realized that i had alot of negative peopel coming around. I remember when a particular friend came around , after she left we would get into a major fight...and then we'ld think back why we fought..and it would be over something stupid. Then of course we realize it was her! She would come over and dig info all the negative stuff and it just oozed from her....i started to cut her out of our lives. Then low and behold she was caught drinking and driving. she left our place sober and was arrested that same night. Keeps changing her story...she's out of our lives. We've dumped others and my husband and i finally spoke about everythign last night from A to Z. we realized that we need to keep positive people around us. Not people who can't handle their problems. We all have problems...its just how we handle it. So yes, our time is spent with more positive people. My friend was the last string left hanging...:) i was so relieved this morning. She was not on the couch sleeping...didn't have see her at night. Got my routin back...my husband said the same thing as he walked out of the bathroom naked from a shower. I started to laugh, i told him we are not tkaing anymore stray dogs. They can go home to their moms! Cheers to relaxing!!!! and i'm glad for all your thoughts. I am just amazed how some people can marry and just live like that! wow!

Definitely! I often have an idea of what exactly the "right" fabric is and can't find it. It's very frustrating but often it leads to wonderful results because it forces me to get out of my comfort zone and rethink my approach. Sometimes it means completely changing the color scheme for a quilt. That happened on the little lap quilt I just made for my grandmother. What was originally going to be a sage, terra cotta and robin's egg blue quilt, ended up chocolate, teal and red--and beautiful. You are making a new quilt, so don't let the old one call too many of the shots--it was a unique creation. Use the original as a guide or inspiration, but also let the new quilt be whatever it needs to be. I know you haven't asked for suggestions, but my first thought was to ditch the poly substitute and go for the real thing instead--find a lovely raw or dupioni silk and go from there. As talented as you are, I'd be holding my breath to see what you could do with silk as a medium! With most local fabric sources going out of business, it's increasingly difficult to find what I want locally, and at the best of times, I have to drive almost an hour and a half to the nearest JoAnn's, so I've been turning more and more to on-line shopping. Just for kicks I googled "faux silk" and found some gorgeous fabrics. My on-line shopping experiences have all been great, so I guess I don't worry much about buying that way. Annie

You will love it. Last summer one of the guys that works up at the golf club was complaining to me that his little dog had a tick on him that he had been trying to get off for two days with no success and his dog kept growling at him (obviously it hurt) so I brought him one of these spoons and he got it off no problem. This tick that was on me was difficult to remove it was really stuck on there but I was able to get it off completely. Thought I had left some behind because there was a little black spot in the center of the bulls-eye but the doctor said, nopeÃ¢ÂÂ¦.got it all.

Thanks for the advice, alisande. He only gave me 14 days but I was up there right away so I think I should be okay, Will keep an eye on the area and watch for other symptoms and go back if necessary. Fortunately, we're not in the peak of the golf season and it's also not that sunny or hot, but I will be carefulÃ¢ÂÂ¦.Think I'll even read the pamphlet that came with the pills thanks to you.

I remember 48 years ago when I was pg, and had just come home fron the lake and went to get my hair done.

They found a tick on the back on my head. Hair dresser struck a match, blew it out, touched the tick with the hot end and off it came.

Now things have changed since then, but that was way back when :o)

That's it Joanne. So simple yet great. Works like a charm. I would recommend it to anyone who lives in an area where ticks are plentiful.

This sounds like a good idea for my son and DIL who love to camp everywhere. I don't see them listed anywhere near me in southern California though.

you're lucky! cousins dw got lime disease, and couldn't paint (she's an artist) for months! finally she's back to her canvas...
