Weekend Plan, anyone?

Weekend is here again...I hate to see summer flying by so quickly, dread what might be coming this winter...

My 2 DGBs are coming from N. Carolina for a week long visit, just the boys, ages 8 and 12...It's going to be a fun week, I think, and a very tiring one, I'm sure...

I just put up a background to pin my creative challenge to and I made one piece to it! It may be slow but it's turning out great.

Plan to go blueberry picking later this afternoon, our last time this year going.

I walked down to my neighbors today to see her new sewing machine and take her down the quilts we have here of the pattern I'm going to be teaching her. I have never seen anyone so excited about learning to sew. It should be a lot of fun.

Tomorrow is a huge party for my husbands parents 50th wedding anniversary. All the brothers and sisters will be there and the nieces and nephews. I should be excited to see everyone I guess but I'm not good about crowds. I'll do my best, hopefully DH will not want to stay ALL day.

Your project with your daughter sounds wonderful. Have fun! It's beautiful today here - 64 degrees F! But....there is a blizzard headed our way tomorrow. I went out and cut green grass and some spring weeds to give to the chickens. They gobbled that down. The hens have started laying eggs again, so they need the greens for egg production. The wild grasses have been growing and I've been cutting it up for them this past week. We've gotten three snow falls and several rainfalls, too. Loving all this moisture! I've been working outside on nicer days and crocheting a baby blanket for my new Great-grand niece on the cold, wet days.. Spring is near now. Tulips and Daffodils are up and the flowering shrubs and trees are forming flower buds. Some of the Jonquils are blooming - they bloom every March, even in the snow.. Irises and daylilies have emerged. Some of the garden phlox have new growth at their bases. The roses are all forming new leaves or leaf buds. My fall-sown parsley is growing really well. I hope the fruit trees don't get fooled by all this warm weather and rush into forming blossoms though. Still way too early. for them. I cut back one of the ornamental grasses and snipped off a few dead tips from a few roses. Walked about inspecting my plants for damage, and looking for regrowth on some of the perennials. Everything is preparing for Spring, which will come in March here. Of course, the weeds are growing like lightening, and when the weeds grow fast, you know it is just around the corner!. Everything else will have to wait. :)

Well IÂm excited. DD is coming for the weekend. SheÂs working at a camp 4 hours away. The original plan was that she was bringing 10 co-workers with her. (All 18-22 years old, and most are from out of state). DH and I bought a ton of junk food to feed them all over the weekend. I folded up all my sewing tables in my sewing room to have room for sleeping bags, etc. I was prepared to house 11 young people. We even went out a bought more guest towels. These kids donÂt have much time for showers, so I figured they would all appreciate long, hot, private showers while they were here. Well, as young people often do, many of them decided the Padres game would be more fun than a 4 hour drive to the mountains. I was even prepared to do all their laundry. IÂm totally not upset. DD is bringing 3 people. ItÂs gonna be a fun weekend. Our empty nest will have some young people for a couple of days. And I have new towels. And the spare bathroom is now clean. On Sunday the junk food is going with them, there is only so much Cheese-Whiz I can eat. Have a great weekend everyone! Nina

Oh the answers to the thread plunked so many of my twangers. Mary, by puffy, I thought you were referring to the puffiness of the C-cup quilt. LOL. Sue.....I laughed out loud when you said you pack for your husband. My last husband, now deceased, and I were going on holiday to a warm climate and I reminded him several times to be sure to pack his swimsuit. When we got to the hotel, I was first out to the pool and thank God I am athletic as I had to hit the pavement running and intercept him as he was half-way out the door of our room. He had on a pair of his bright red briefs and my heavens, he thought it was his suit, you know, the one he didn't pack. What is ironic, is the same thing happened with present hubby. I kept reminding him to pack his suit when we went away for a short winter jaunt to a lodge with an inside pool. He actually got mad at me for nagging at him ( I was remembering the incident with previous hubby). Well, guess what happened again? I suppose it's my fault I don't marry men who wear white briefs. rofl. Laughing too at Lindaoh. What is it with the twister block? I was so excited about it when I saw (was it Polardream's) Christmas purses in the twister pattern, I actually dug out my fabrics Christmas eve late at night and started one. Does that answer the question in the other post if this forum influences us in what we make? To nearly everyone who posted so far. Yeah, it's rained all week-end here too and so much I have been singing my g'daughter's fav song. I LIVE IN A PINEAPPLE UNDER THE SEA. SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS. And what am I doing quilting wise? Actually getting back to finishing the quilting on the Twister baby quilt I started late on Christmas eve. I burnt out on working on it and started another queens sized one and have a paper piece UFO on the design wall. There goes my New Year's resolution to stop working on three quilts simultaneously. And like grammyP, this was my weekend to do some serious babysitting with my 13 month old g'son. Oh joy....he melts my heart.

I do have plans to go back to the town wide rummages today with Amber, Alyssa, and Cheryl, Satine. We had so much fun yesterday even though the day started out rainy. Hopefully on Sunday I can go to church and then just do whatever after I come back home. You all sound like you will be kept busy over the weekend. I am glad your son invited you to church Glenda. Have a safe trip too Marie and Joann. Nannie I too have been canning salsa and hope to do more. I use my niece's recipe. I have seen Annie's recipe though. Alisande good luck with the repairs to your faucet. Azzalea your plans sound nice also, enjoy your time with your DD. Kay don't over do out in the yard, I need to try and get a little of that work done too! Sue

Parties??? they sound like they will be lots of fun.

I just made a pail of pickles and passed out several bags of cukes to the neighbors. Will do some dills tomorrow. I have picked a good 30 lbs of tomatoes...4 ripe ones and the ones picked are starting to turn. We like the acid pic pic taste but they are very mellow this year. Oh, yes I also have a large bag of apples my DD wants pies made. They are off her tree...I am not really in the mood for pies but will try and push it before they spoil.

I am making some new curtains for my kitchen. I had real nice swag ones but they are a real chore to get off and on the window and I don't do so good on a ladder any more. I found a bright plaid - colors of orange, yellow, green, blue. My kitchen is a celeric green and my chairs are navy.

I would really like some white daisies on my curtains, but haven't done hand applique...but I thought I could just do one on each curtain once in a while and would eventually have a few daisies..hehe. What do you think? I can't devote much time to this right now as I have another more important project to work on, but daisies would be lovely in January!!!

Well, the weekend is nearly passed but I did finally start a project I have anticipated since I won a stack of 5" squares at my LQS about 3 months ago. I'm using them as the middle of a star. This is to be a throw for my DD. Maybe this week I'll be inspired to try to get it all together. Sometimes, I spend a lot of time planning, thinking about, gathering materials and not getting a lot of work done. Trying to work on that.
