ipe vs composite for covered front porch
Comments (13)Timber Teck makes a T&G decking product. TT rial system is nice looking fairley easy to install but very spendy. What I found along with all the bashing...complaints on composite were about the material itself...complaints on South American lumber were mainley about a bad install/finish job. Its very possible to have a T&G ipe project I have several of them out including my own hot tub room floor. East Teak is a full service Mill that is they can machine/dry the lumber any way you want. There are a few little tricks involved with this install but nothing I could not explain if your Contractor is willing to learn and pay attention to detail, of course this is true with any high end decking. Comments (5)I only have experience installing, not owning a Composite deck. Composites like you mentioned do absorb and hold more heat than a natural wood and Composites have had issues with mold / mildew varying from brand to brand. The mold / mildew usually isn't an unhealthy amount but is an eye sore. The fading is a given, when choosing the color you want try to envision it a tad lighter. As far as longevity goes most Composite Manufacturers can only estimate longevity. As the response above mine proves most Contractors will try to convince you of other options. Me, I would recommend a Natural Hardwood like Ipe, Massaranduba, Garapa, etc. Hardwoods like the above mentioned have been proven to last 20-30 + years untreated. That and your friends won't tease you about your "Lego" Deck. I know most Retailers like www.efloor.com or www.eastteak.com offer free samples, it is a solid option....See MoreTrex Vs Evergrain Vs Other
Comments (1)No experience with decking in the Pacific Northwest I did a little stained glass in Eugune Or, Anyway there is a reason t=junk is so cheep they are busy paying off the class action and coming up with those cool adds with decks that dont exist. They really need to turn a couple of bucks or go banko. Evergrain/Epoch is a soft composite,at least 10 per cent color fade and will take some care far as cleaning goes like anything outside. We did a couple of projects out of it with no call backs in a few years. I have never used Fiberon. I dont know how much decking your planing on,if your going to go with an upgrade material dont use composite at all go with ipe. John...See MoreTrex Brasilia - SPOTS? Anyone else?
Comments (39)Joe (moosefruit): It seems I found this forum a year to late :( I am having the exact same dark spots all over a Trek Brasilis deck I had installed (three tier - 2000 square feet). I originally thought that it was dirt/etc -- however upon searching of some sort of cleaning agent -- I found that it seems to be mold. I am not sure if you are still pursuing building a collective to influence Trek - however I would LOVE to be apart of it. Should I eamil you - or you can email me at antoniobizzieri@msn.com Best regards, Tony...See Moresrercrcr
