Comments (9)A screed is typically a layer of concrete that is either formulated to be a wearing surface (as in a floor) or a surface upon which another finish is applied (e.g. tile or engineered wood). Working on a 1913 Edwardian with a long south facing "grand" stair-- nightmare in maintenance in rainy winters, hot summers, and a scary height for residents. Considering cement treads, with a screed applied on the porch surface for continuity and protection from the elements because replacing the porch surface (currently painted plywood) is prohibitive cost-wise. Existing shingle clad faces would be retained, possibly with existing painted wood risers, to achieve a cosmetic effect appropriate to the property. Comments (5)I've had basic tiles mortared to my courtyard slab for almost 20 years now. cheapest ceramic tiles ever, but heck, those things have lasted! They aren't slippery when wet which is a must. they are a matte type of finish w/a texture to them. I so want to redo this w/something that looks better, but it's a huge job to tear all of this out. I'm also tempted to go on top of it! instead of doing a porcelain, why not look into a natural slate tile? look in my first picture. see the other tiles on the face of the pond? those are slate. They have a natural texture to them, do not get slippery and are inexpensive. they come in a ton of colors and shapes. montauk blue slate Or, do a porcelain that looks like slate or limestone Either of these looks will always be in style. Unless, you are dead set on doing the wood look tile? You'd have to find one w/the ridges and texture, and a matte finish. I know they do make the wood look tiles in a slip resistant matte finish for exterior applications. I'm sure any good tile store would carry them. Porcelanosa carries these: https://www.porcelanosa-usa.com/about-us/news/summer-trends-outdoor-pool-tiles I just saw this layout. I think it looks pretty good. you could do this w/smaller length tiles...See MoreComposite front porch with angles
Comments (15)Thanks for the visual. Did you see 3onthetree's suggestion so it follows the roofline, not the posts. The porch would all be undercover. I hadn't realized there is a triangle exposed to weather. We're planning on wrapping those posts after the porch is on (a few feet), in a rock that matches our fireplace. I get why it was suggested to follow the roof and it's a crazy design that it doesn't, but with it cut in like the above suggesstion, I wonder if it'd look strange. I like how your design looks but what about a section not covered?...See Moresrercrcr
