Porches & Decks Flooring Design Dilemma

Flooring for front covered porch

We have a covered front porch with white rails, concrete flooring, approx 300 sf. Our home is stucco. We are re-painting exterior of home and also want to have a new floor installed on the porch over the existing concrete. We are looking at exterior wood-look porcelain tiles (with some texture) vs composite decking (like Trek) vs brick pavers. Our goals are low maintenance and the least slippery when wet. Could anyone give me recommendations or your experience with any of these options, pros and cons?

I'd look for images of colonial revival houses from the first part of the 20th century (or I suppose the real thing) for inspiration. Your house is sort of a take on colonial, just with less symmetry. You'd have to do something like putting columns that match the things flanking the door out a few feet and tack on a roof...something like this, but take it down a few notches. Whether you need permits depends on your city/county codes. How difficult it is to return to the original depends on how much framing was added. Start by removing the windows. The only way to find out how much framing was added is to remove the sheet rock. That should give you an idea of any framing added for sheet rock installation and/or how big the old screens were. To replace windows with screens means all the sheet rock has to be removed. Looks some was added to the old exterior. Most of the trim has to go. Not a really good DIY project unless you have some experience in demolition. To have it done may run a couple thousand dollars, and maybe that much more to refurbuish it.

I think I would not do that the house is not huge and IMO the gable is already a bit larger than I would llike on that house . I would just get a nice retractable awning in colors to work with the house paint the furniture to go with the awning and please rove at least the shutters from the porch window and maybe some flower boxes un the other 2 windows .

Since you said you're replacing it eventually, you could paint it. Matte black, like your door. Then get a large doormat because the smooth uniform color is going to easily show dirt and grime, so covering a big part of it will help. Or you could tile over it, which could be a permanent solution. Just be sure it's the right kind so it's not slippery in the rain. Pattern tile: wood look tile:

A composite telecomasia board glued directly to the concrete could be used (although this is an extreme option and is not ideal).

I've had basic tiles mortared to my courtyard slab for almost 20 years now. cheapest ceramic tiles ever, but heck, those things have lasted! They aren't slippery when wet which is a must. they are a matte type of finish w/a texture to them.

I so want to redo this w/something that looks better, but it's a huge job to tear all of this out. I'm also tempted to go on top of it!

instead of doing a porcelain, why not look into a natural slate tile? look in my first picture. see the other tiles on the face of the pond? those are slate.

They have a natural texture to them, do not get slippery and are inexpensive. they come in a ton of colors and shapes. montauk blue slate

Or, do a porcelain that looks like slate or limestone Either of these looks will always be in style.

Unless, you are dead set on doing the wood look tile? You'd have to find one w/the ridges and texture, and a matte finish. I know they do make the wood look tiles in a slip resistant matte finish for exterior applications. I'm sure any good tile store would carry them.

I just saw this layout. I think it looks pretty good. you could do this w/smaller length tiles
