OK here is what you do. Google JoAnn's find where the corporate office is, find out who is in charge, then write down what you have told us. I have done this in the past and it works. I did this with Goodwill and got a phone call from the local manager quite upset because of what I found out.
Our local GW throws out all the pocket books to the trash, because it takes too much time to mark and set them up. But they sure have a good selection of kitchen junk taking up about 6 shelves. Yes it is junk!

Yes, you MUST write to JoAnn's about this. First, do you think the store is trying to get rid of its stock of McCall's patterns and keep some of the other lines instead? I'd make it a point of saying that in your area, it's not easy to go between JoAnn's stores looking for what you want and they do a disservice to their customers by not trying to accommodate more storage space for current patterns and by not helping you patronize their store. Because likely, if you'd gotten that pattern, you would also have picked up other items like fabric, new thread, ribbon, whatever.

There are 2 JoAnn's stores near where I usually go to shop (probably one or two more that I don't know about -- I don't go there hardly ever). I live in a suburban area where things are not nearly as spread out where you live, granted. The 2 stores are maybe 30 minutes apart. But one is a larger, more modern-looking store (not everything cramped together), and I've noticed it has a lot more crafting supplies and seasonal decorations -- like Michaels. Maybe JoAnn's profit is now in that stuff? I am told by a neighbor who does friends' alterations that fabric is not so inexpensive anymore and that fewer people sew clothes (and that younger generations don't want to sew at all).

And if JoAnn's website doesn't have the patterns, doesn't the company realize you will shop elsewhere? For a pattern and potentially more stuff, pulling your dollars away from the store? (Even though in your area there may not be an option other than JoAnn's for even a spool of thread.)

The second point I want to make is that you should also write to McCall's -- explain the situation you found yourself in, especially the fact that the store didn't have much space for patterns. I know that if I were a manufacturer counting on a store to have good product placement, I would make an effort to work with the store (like maybe providing different ways to physically stock the product -- maybe those bulky metal cabinets aren't the solution anymore). Maybe a McCall's sales rep would be interested to learn that his or her product line was not being stocked and promoted to the best potential.

It's always a good idea to write letters of complaint (or compliments) -- you never know when they'll get to the person who cares enough to make a difference.

The nearest JoAnn's is 25 miles from me, and I have become very dissatisfied with them. As a quilter, my main interest is in cotton fabric--the last time I was there, the shelves were only half full, and the selection was terrible. Plus, the prices have skyrocketed. Lately, I have purchased more fabric online than in stores. It's not worth it to drive 50 miles (round-trip) and not find anything I like.

I do hope you write to them--maybe it will get their attention.

I hadn't sewn anything in like nine or ten years, but last November I decided to make a baby quilt for a friend, and then at Christmas I made my son's girlfriend an apron. Wow! I couldn't believe the price of fabric!

Wanda, how do you go about purchasing fabric online? Has there been any that you were dissatisfied with once you received it? Or after you washed it? I always wash my fabrics before I sew with them.

Caroline, I'd definitely write JoAnn's, and like others said, tell them all what you told us. I don't think they'll be too happy, especially when the 2 stores have a truck that does travel between them. If you have a Facebook page, write it up on there too, bad publicity sometimes gets results. If you do write and get some response, please share!!

I "have" wrote to the corporate office and they will just send the letter on to the Joanns in your area. You'll get an apology but that is about all. And it is not much of one. Their pattern selection is awful and so disorganized. When they remodeled the one in Indianapolis it was awful. They now have only one large cutting area and you take a number. The first time I went I was number 87 and they were on 21. People were just waking away and leaving fabric where they could find a place to lay it. It was awful. Then they have 10 checkouts but only half of them open. I told the lady they needed more help.. She was a bit snippy.

I told the ladies at the one close to me about my experience and I was told they have changed about everything since being bought out. They now are only allowed a certain number of workers at one time working. They only want the cutters to spend 4 minutes on each cutting customer. They don't want her to even go help a customer with thread and such. I asked her what if it was a new sewer that needed the help. She said they don't care.

Kind of sad but that is the way it is now. Joanns has really gone downhill!!!

After the Goodwill manager contacted me, quite upset I had contacted main office, wondering why I did not talk to her, and demanded who I had talked to at the store, I refused to even describe the person and told her I had asked for a manager, and was told there was none avaiable. She again demanded who I talked to, and I refused, because I knew she would lose her job. (new young girl) she really got snotty. This was a couple of years ago, and I recently went in to the store, and it has not changed. Furniture overpriced, tons of clothing, junky kitchen stuff etc. You would think after the flood we just went thru, they would at least try to help people.

You can get vouchers for help from the Red Cross or the Salvation Army and take them to Goodwill, who will honor them.

I have a fairly nice JoAnn's only a few miles from my house. I could pick them up for you and mail them to you, if you are interested.

But, I also get really upset with the price of fabric..And what also bothers me, most of the time, you don't get to use the coupons because of all the so called sales......

We now have a new Walmart that sells fabric, yarn etc., and I've been buying a lot of my stuff from them....In fact, a same make skein of baby yarn was $4.00 cheaper at Walmart....I do know you have to be alert especially with fabric, but when making the Project Linus quilts I will use the Walmart fabric.....I detest shopping at Wally but will go in for the yarn and fabric.....
