More JoAnn updates

I just spoke with JoAnn. She is so exhausted from all the stress and not feeling well. Just too much bad news all at once!

She does have to have a hysterectomy in a couple weeks. She also has more doctor visits/testing/examinations before her surgery.

Her DH came home from the hospital yesterday. He is suffering from liver problems.

Please continue your good thoughts and prayers for them both. I believe soon you may all hear from her personally. She knows I'm posting and she thanks you all for your kindness.

I can just imagine how draining all this is on her, and with her own health issues happening I'm sure her hubby is feeling like he is contributing to them. I;m sending lots of healing white light their way and pray that they both be granted the strength, faith and fortitude to get thru it all together.

Tell her there are probably a lot of us who can relate to her right now...and feel for her.

I'm one of them...I had mine removed 16 years ago.

A friend of mine had hers removed a week ago today.

I'll keep her in my prayers.

Yes, you MUST write to JoAnn's about this. First, do you think the store is trying to get rid of its stock of McCall's patterns and keep some of the other lines instead? I'd make it a point of saying that in your area, it's not easy to go between JoAnn's stores looking for what you want and they do a disservice to their customers by not trying to accommodate more storage space for current patterns and by not helping you patronize their store. Because likely, if you'd gotten that pattern, you would also have picked up other items like fabric, new thread, ribbon, whatever. There are 2 JoAnn's stores near where I usually go to shop (probably one or two more that I don't know about -- I don't go there hardly ever). I live in a suburban area where things are not nearly as spread out where you live, granted. The 2 stores are maybe 30 minutes apart. But one is a larger, more modern-looking store (not everything cramped together), and I've noticed it has a lot more crafting supplies and seasonal decorations -- like Michaels. Maybe JoAnn's profit is now in that stuff? I am told by a neighbor who does friends' alterations that fabric is not so inexpensive anymore and that fewer people sew clothes (and that younger generations don't want to sew at all). And if JoAnn's website doesn't have the patterns, doesn't the company realize you will shop elsewhere? For a pattern and potentially more stuff, pulling your dollars away from the store? (Even though in your area there may not be an option other than JoAnn's for even a spool of thread.) The second point I want to make is that you should also write to McCall's -- explain the situation you found yourself in, especially the fact that the store didn't have much space for patterns. I know that if I were a manufacturer counting on a store to have good product placement, I would make an effort to work with the store (like maybe providing different ways to physically stock the product -- maybe those bulky metal cabinets aren't the solution anymore). Maybe a McCall's sales rep would be interested to learn that his or her product line was not being stocked and promoted to the best potential. It's always a good idea to write letters of complaint (or compliments) -- you never know when they'll get to the person who cares enough to make a difference. Good luck!

I'm sorry that you have your health problems Caroline. I understand that many folks have problems that necessitate the use of restroom facilities quickly. I also deplore that our society is afraid to extend kindness to strangers (or even friends!) for fear of legal repercussions. If a small store has only a small employee restroom in the back storage/dock area of the store it is likely that they have forbidden it's use to any nonemployees because of the danger of injury to that person. If their back room is anything like ours there are unavoidable hazards that someone not versed in retail might be injured by. Employees of of JoAnn's visiting a different store than the one they are employed in are not even permitted to enter the stock rooms of another store with out and escort from that store. These days any mishap almost invariably means a law suit. Even if the guest assures us that "I would never sue you" they still can and often do. I'd blame it on the lawyers but it takes a client to hire them. It's just too bad that it's a risk to be kind these days. Many folks use online shopping as an alternative to going to stores. You can buy most anything on the web these days. I admit that I like to feel a fabric before I purchase it and like the instant gratification of a store purchase but I guess online shopping would be better than peeing my pants in public just to get some sewing/crafting supplies.

Man, to think of JoAnn in a bad mood is mind boggling. I'm glad she's feeling better except for the leg business. I didn't realize until I read a post today that she's your daughter-in-law. Let me say you have a great son and even greater daughter-in-law. Thanks for keeping us updated on how they are doing. It's a hard time for them and you, too.

I had mine in 1995 and left the hospital, went home and promptly began cleaning my house - absolutely NO vac. the carpets, though, for SIX WEEKS - believe them when they tell you to avoid stairs and abdomenal movements.

Just sending hugs and good thoughts. Sometimes we just get overwhelmed and would rather just run away and hide. And sometimes we must learn to say NO to everything and everyone until life balances itself out.

JoAnn, I've been really worried about you and your DH. Just want to let you know you're both in my prayers and I'm thinking postive thoughts for you both.

Please consider getting a second opinion for both of you. I sure wish I had before I had my hysterectomy. It's important!!

Hi,
Things still are not good for DH, he feels worse now, but does not want to return to the hospital. It was a terrible experience for his first time in the hospital. If the lord does not intervene soon it may be over for him. He does not want a transplant either.

I'm sorry you and hubby are suffering these health problems. I so hope the Lord does intervene and DH gets himself back in the hospital. Is there another one nearby that he would be willing to give a chance? Prayers and healing thoughts coming your way.

JoAnn, I can't express in words how badly I feel for you at this time. I just want to reach out and give you a big hug when we talk on the phone. I'm so sorry for your heartache! Please try to take care of yourself!
