does water need to be clear to measure for liner?

The pool guy is coming out in 4 days to measure for a new liner. The water is partially drained and green. You can see the bottom but just barely.

Does this matter in the measuring process? It is a very irregular shaped pool.

Do they need the water to be clear so they can see better, to measure?

Are they measuring to give a proposal, or to actually order it?

Can you take and dump a couple of gallons of bleach, and take your brush and mix it around?

If I agree to the written quote, it will be to order it.

So in other words, yes you are saying I need to make the water clearer?

If you're limiting dirt or leaves from entering the water and you have good filtration then you probably just need to give it time. You can try adding beneficial bacteria. I keep a bottle around and work it into my weekly maintenance routine. Most pumps have a fine filter that needs regular cleaning, especially if the water is dirty. You didn't mention if you have a skimmer like assembly so I'm going to assume that you do not. If you had this then there often is a large fine filter between the leaf basket and the pump chamber. I clean that filter at least weekly and more often in spring. If you simply have cloudy water you may wish to try a product like AccuClear that helps bind particles suspended in the water. I really only use this on my water garden's water to help polish it once it has really settled for the spring / summer and fall.

I use a net but lots of winter debris still works it's way into the pond. I net it out or water vac it out because it is a lot easier to remove stuff that is not stinky, rotted and stomach turning. Actually it is broken down just right to add to some potting soil for texture. I haven't had to deal with the fuzzy algae so many ponds get. In fact, I think my pond is in too much shade to grow it. However, the stuff that is composed of rotted food and poop will work it's way into any crack or crevice and under anything sitting on the liner. whenever I pick up a pot or the terracotta tiles I stack to raise pots to the correct level, there is a cloud of stuff that billows out. I try to keep the cloud to a minimum because it scares the little fish and sometimes makes them sick so I move things around often enough that it doesn't happen at once. Sandy

Hwarrick: So you also have toads that also reproduce in your pond? I have a ? that I can't figure out: the toads mate in the pond, then I have 100s (1000s!!?) of polliwogs in the water that develop bigger by the week but still with a tail & no legs. All of a sudden one morning: every one is GONE... where do they go? Not developed enough to jump out, the goldfish leave them alone & no snake or other critter could eat ALL of them just overnight?!! Now another batch of teeny ones again in the pond after the visit by the toad pairs. Any idea how they disappear just overnight... EVERY ONE of them?! No snakes or birds doing it I am quite sure as it happens just over night one night!

you’re either referring to the law (in Washington State, anyway) regarding rental properties, or you live in some place that has uber nanny legislators. And seriously? YOU don’t think YOU are smart enough to know what temperature YOU want YOUR hot water in your home? Any who, I don’t want the dishwasher to turn the electrical heating element on. Electricity (unless your using magnetic induction) is an inefficient way to heat water. It is better for my house to use hot water from my tankless HWH. I have a tankless HWH that will produce 190° hot water if I set it correctly. I have a dedicated line from the manifold that natal led between the heater and the Case Acme temperature regulator. I send 160° water to my dishwasher, and washing machine. (I also have a dedicated line that supplies 160° to a separate faucet on my sink that takes the place of the under sink contraption that crapped out a while back. (120° is the legal limit? Don’t tell InSinkerator. I doubt those gadgets they make can even go down to 120°.) I would use 180° water but I am afraid the water temperature alone might melt some plastic ware and also damage some synthetic fabrics. Here’s a thought, when it comes to how YOU choose to live in YOUR house, man up, and grow a pair.

Good advice.

Ok I just went out and put some algaecide in it. I am about out of bleach and didn't feel like driving to the store.

The algaecide is really strong. I sprinkled it around the pool and stirred it with the leave cleaning net. Hopefully it will clear up??

I know that algaecide worked great on green water, when the system was running.

However the water level is way too low to turn the pool on.

I am wondering if the algaecide will go throughout the wate, well enough to kill the algae, without the filtering system on.

There are already a lot of mosquitos making nests (or whatever they do), and breeding on and near the pool surface. I put out my mosquito zapper which is helping a lot.

they should still be able to measure your pool. Always easier clear though. Can you run it just on the main drain? Hey muddy where are you from?

I just tried to run it through the main drain only and it did not work. I primed the pump with water a few times. I think it has to go through the skimmers also to be strong enough?

I don't know why it's not working. Water just sits there.

I would still add some bleach during the time of waiting for the liner.....Tennessee here and you?

GA here. You can see the bottom but it's not perfectly clear.

The pump does not work unless one of the skimmers is partway on. And that is not possible with the water level low.

I called the pool guy, left a message telling him the water is green and is that ok, for him to measure. He has not called back yet.

He is coming out Fri.

Hopefully he'll call back tomorrow and let me know if I should worry or if maybe it's not a big deal about the green water.
