Our pool is a few weeks from completion. I've always purchased "throw away" outdoor furniture every few years, but I think it's time for an upgrade. What furniture holds up best to the elements and looks good? Cast iron? Aluminum? Wood? Wood looking plastic?

We don't have a salt system.

Where's the best place to purchase the furniture??

I would go with a good quality wood looking plastic. I've bought some Polywood outdoor furniture at Comfort House. They have a good selection. My experience with the Polywood loungers has been great.

DRAW the entire room to scale at 1/4 inch to one inch. Add the windows, openings et. Put inches to all of everything. : ) You don't need a "program". A 25 foot tape measure, graph paper and a pencil and a friend..........works just fine. Get busy or no help of a worthwhile nature will be forthcoming.

You will have no luck with anything , unless you go back to whatever brick and mortar you made the purchase. A bench cushion is always harder to maintain, even with a spring down cushion. But there ARE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY in spring down cushions as well. . We have no idea what the fabric content is on the "velvet" ........and seems you are seeing a smile line at seam joins. Velvet is a tufted woven fabric, and can be made from many fibers, cotton, polyester, silk. I haven't used any EJ Victor in eons, nor Henredon. But I will say that at one time Henredon was quality. That is loooooong gone and many moons ago. Like twenty five years. Today, Henredon is still not up and running following bankruptcy filing by Heritage group . Henredon was split off, along with Thomasville. The more major point is the American furniture industry has struggled. Regulations, rules, , competition from junk imports, a throw away society who wants a sofa in a week for a grand, and a million other reasons. Including a resistance to pay for quality and what it costs to PRODUCE that quality in these United States.

Their rug was too small for the way it's being used. As stated above it could be used to delineate a second seating area. How will you use the space? If TV viewing is the focal then orientate it away from the fireplace. I see no decent way for a TV to compete with that fireplace. The one pic is horrid, makes the TV looks LARGER than it is. The swags have to go. I love a curtain panel so see leaving them...but most are sticking to the cold, sterile just blinds look if you want to be 'up to date'. It sort of looks to me like the back half was designed to be a dining room. Do you need that? A games table would be super fun if this is more of a casual living space. It really appears two couples lived here. The first decorated a space then the TV/movie watchers/gamers moved in with their theatre seating. The room is rather schizophrenic.

NO CAST IRON! You'll stain the pool from the rust very quickly.

The use of higher quality resin materials work best.

Aluminum tends to float because of the air trapped in the tubing used for the frame is sealed in.

Other metals can create other staining issues.

Like I said try Sun Coast furniture. I have being using their furniture for the past 20 years and never had a problem it is a POWDER COATED cast aluminum. We'll I once had to replace the sling in one chair. It cost me $30

I have Sun Coast slings that I have for about 12 years and they are still in good condition but the down side is it cost some money and it is still in good condition and I would like to replace them.

I have some friends that purchased a few nice sets at Costco and they are holding up after a few years.

We went with the Polywood Adirondack (Model SH22). My kid's will still be using them long after I'm gone:

I researched for quite a while and found that The Rattan Shack's online store had the by far best price for the SH22. Their order was shipped direct from the factory with prompt free delivery / no sales tax.
