Thanks everyone! I can't stop smiling I'm so happy that I found this. The seller had it advertised for $800.00, she dropped the price without me asking. I was the only one who responded to her ad. Central Florida, btw.

Today I got some of the recovering of the seats done. Cute fabric, but hard to see the colors ....

I need to get a stain pen to get those scratches..

Holy crap! What a gorgeous set. I am shaking my head because all you get for that amount of $$$ here is a Buddha-belly sectional from a smoker's home with questionable stains.

When I first got the chairs home, I wondered the same thing, dining chairs I've done in the past never had the piping, these (with the original covers) did.

I carefully deconstructed the old seats. Ethan Allen used really good staples and plenty of them, btw. The hardest part of the reupholstering was removing the old staples...

After covering the seat, you staple the piping 'salvage'
(if that's what its called - the flat fabric part) to the seat underside along the edge before puttling the seat on the chair frame. Easy and it really does add a nice finishing touch.

Okay...so I'm not jealous much, but I am certainly jealous of that beautiful dinking room set. It's absolutely stunning!! And the corner hutch is nice too. I would have scarfed that up in a split second if it was posted where I live. I'm on CL more than I need to be.

So, how did you do the piping on the cushion?

I just read your instructions on the piping.....didn't see them before.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, the staples are mounted to the wood seat, so the cushion can't be removed, unless you take out the staples, correct?

I have an older Thomasville set through CL as well, with piping on the cushion. The cushions are attached to the frame, and I need to change the fabric. Wasn't sure how to do it.

When you turn the chair upside down you should see screws holding the seat to the chair frame in each corner. Remove the screws and the seat should lift off.

For my chairs I had to remove the staples for the chambric (black lining), remove the staples for original piping, remove the staples and fabric of the original cover. Then I was able to replace the padding for the cushion.

If you didn't want to replace the cushion, you can just recover your seats by removing the seats from the chairs, cutting off the existing piping (very sharp exacto knife works for this) staple your new fabric over the existing fabric, staple new piping to the bottom of the seat and refasten to your chair frame.

Hope this helps....(youtube.com has many clips showing how to recover dining rooms chairs, I din't see any that show the application of the piping though - its easy and you'll figure it out once you take your seat off and look at the how its done.) Good luck!
