Good Kitty Thoughts Needed

If you remember, about 2 weeks ago, Kalie (DD#2) had Mickey in for blocked urinary. They did a (as Flamey named it!) picklectomy (made him into a girl) so if he gets more stones, hopefully it won't be as bad. Anyway, we saw Mickey on Saturday and he is about back to his old self! Happy!! Everything turned out really well for him!

Now Jasmine (another cat) has been puking up just about everything she has eaten. They took her to the vet this morning, and there is a blockage in his intestine. They are operating as I type!

If you have a chance, if you could send a few good thoughts for Jasmine and for Kalie, I would really appreciate it!!!

I wouldn't do it yourself. If it gets infected or if you do some other damage (having a needle or razor around an ear and a scared cat could be disastrous if she moves suddenly), it could end up costing you far more than $300. My cat also had a hemotoma a few years ago. It was a giant swelling on his ear and my vet said he probably scratched some of the blood vessels there and it swelled. She told me to just leave it alone and his body would reabsorb the blood, and it did over a week or so. His ear is crinkly now but I think it's kind of cute and gives him character. :) I would just leave it alone if it were me but please don't try to do it yourself. Cats don't understand how to stand still and it can be very difficult to restrain them properly. Not to mention traumatic for the cat to have that done with no anesthetic.

With one of my cats, I gave his IV at home for about a year and it worked wonders for him. He would just about come and tell me when it was time for one.He would sit there and not move , I put his cat bed up on the counter in the bathroom and he would lay down in it and I had the IV hanging from a coat hanger up high on the cabinet, it took about 10 minutes to put in the required amount and he knew exactly when it should be over and he would turn his head and gently grab my finger with his teeth LOL . Like ok now I am done! This is a gentle warning! Then he would get down and spend an hour licking himself since he had saliva again. When it got to the point that he was not bouncing back with the IV and his levels were very bad the vet said he would not be around much longer. He passed at home one night. All 3 of my kitties died from that darn kidney failure. It is so unfortunate that so many cats end up that way. But the vet said there really is not a lot of pain involved. I hope your kitty can make it through this for a while longer.

sandi? wondering how he did thru the weekend? sure hope his oncologist was able to see him as well...it's so irritating when one dr doesn't call or talk to original...even with meds...primary suggested new drug for bone density...well that's fine but what about oncologist and kidney dr??? so after getting on the phone and leaving messages with the other 2 dr's got an ok...and they're all supposed to connected to the hospital I used...

Kalie just called, Jasmine came through the surgery and they think things will all be okay! She was in a meeting, so the vet talked to her fiancÃ©, and they haven't talked yet.

Yikes! Did she eat something she shouldn't have? Good thing they got her in to the vet promptly. An intestinal blockage can be fatal.

Glad to hear Jasmine is doing well after the surgery. Hope she recovers quickly :)

Thanks for the update! I was thinking of Mickey as I was brushing Bud this morning. He's a short-haired cat, neutered, and I've never seen his petey-bird. Ever. I never even think of him having one. LOL

Poor Kalie and her cats. It's awful when they suddenly get sick, not to mention expensive!

Poor kitties, they hide their illnesses for so long and they are hard to diagnose. i had one female cat with a urinary infection. The vet squeezed her bladder and she peed blood. Put her on antibiotics and she was fine for about 5 years. My current cat is 17 years old, has had thyroid, kidney and liver failure for two years. I keep her alive by feeding her (very expensive) Fancy Feasts. Worth the price. She eats well, still uses her litter box and is very affectionate.

I saw this late, Sandy. Glad the surgery went well, and hope both kitties stay super-healthy for a long time.
