Mickey D's Sweet Tea

I had my first glass of the year Saturday! yummmmmmmm. It was perfect.

Went to do a search to find what I do wrong when making ice tea. (I love ice tea) found this on allrecipes.com

Now if the weather would co-operate I'd be making some!

Here is a link that might be useful: Smooth Sweet Tea

I'm sorry I just don't care for any of Mickey D's sweet tea or the unsweet tea. The unsweet has an off taste and the sweet is way too sweet. There are several places that I do like the tea, my favorite place is Jim Dandy. I do prefer the unsweet but will drink the sweet but it can't be too sweet. I know a couple of my girls drink the sweet tea from Mickey D's but they never make tea at home. Maybe it depends on the Mickey D's. Anyone else have this experience? I recently had a horrible experience with Hardee's tea. They apoligized and paid for my whole meal. Needless to say I have not bought iced teas since!

As for that "swamp Basket oak" I can never seem to get ANY tree to grow there. It's RIGHT on the property line, and I can't help but think that maybe the neighbors are killing these trees. That Swamp Basket oak just died, it hadn't put on any growth for about 3 years, then it just withered away to nothing. Really, I've tried 3 different species of trees there, and NONE of them have lived. I tried to grow 2 different oaks And a Silver Maple, which I only planted because the neighbors had planted a row of them MANY YEARS earlier, and their trees had been growing well for many years. I have hated their Silver Maples, they drop branches and send out seedpods all through out my yard, but, I did like there to be a consistent row of the same trees. But, for some reason all of those new Silver Maples I had stupidly planted ( really just 3 seedlings) they all seemed to die for (who knows) some reason, I'm really glad they died, I don't really like Silver Maple trees. But, anyway, I will be trying a Sycamore again in my yard. The neighbor who has the Sycamore tree that I had planted years ago, when it was my property, his Sycamore had shed seed far enough into my yard to where I have a Sycamore baby (about 20 feet away from his mama tree) and so I'll be digging up this small seedling, and planting it in the place that I had once had a small Sycamore seedling years ago, but, the seedling died, and I had then planted a Chinkapin oak seedling there, but, THAT tree didn't grow well there. I know that it's likely this Sycamore seedling will likely not do well either, but, I have gotten this Sycamore seedling for free, and this is the place that I want a Sycamore tree to grow, so I really am hoping that once that I dump a good bit of natural fertilizer, and some new soil, which is from my pots that I had tried to grow some flower seeds in, maybe I could get a Sycamore tree to grow there. I also think, I need to spread some Garden sulfer there because we had buried a couple of horses and dogs there, and I seem to remember that LIME was used because my parents were told that you need to spread lime when you bury an animal. Our soil has been deemed PH 7 so nuetral, but, if you add lime where pets, some being big like Horses, and we'd had to bury at least 3 horses on my current property, so maybe there is Lime under the soil. But, really, if you haven't had to bury an animal, or know of there being Lime added to your soil, I would just say that if you smell something foul around your Plane tree or Sycamore tree, just post here and maybe we can figure out where and when these foul smells take place.

york_rose, No I have not tried Duchesses de Brabant yet. I had high hopes with the teas and noisettes, because I was able to grow Mdme. Alfred Carriere with no problem. However, I read on the web recently that Mdme. Alfred Carriere is not a true noisette, and may in fact be a bourbon. I guess this explains its hardiness in my zone. Currently I am down to thirteen tea roses, and only three are thriving. I am really surprised by the climber Souv. de Mdme. Leonie Viennot; instead of dying back, it has put on long canes last summer. Mlle. de Sombreuil is also turning out to be quite hardy, and so is Mdme. Joseph Schwartz. I am really hopeful that these could turn out to be the teas that will grow into the stunning roses that I've seen here.

Proper botanical name would be most helpfull in order to know if we are talking about the same plants. As far as I know several H. serrata sold in a States have "amacha' in their name, Hydrangea serrata 'Amagi Amacha' and 'O Amacha Nishiki' in particular. 'Amagi Amacha' have a very long narrow leaves, probably the narrowest of all hydrangeas, but overall plant bearing very little of decorative value, IMO. I know someone who grow it and will ask to have a leaves tasting party :-)) Good luck in your travels.

Tea (or sweet) Olive Trees in CENTRAL Texas?
Q

I have a sweet olive tree growing in less than ideal conditions in San Antonio. It is planted in heavy clay soil under the eaves next to the foundation, gets a little sun off and on, water from the roof runoff and still manages to bloom all winter. I'd say it is an easy plant to grow. However, the scent while strong doesn't seems to waft as much as some other plants, but my smeller isn't that great. What does waft for me is Kidneywood tree, a Texas native that is seldom without flowers all summer. The bees and butterflies love it. I see it growing wild along Huebner Rd. in San Antonio. Every yard in central Texas should have one. Also I enjoy the Winter honeysuckle which is a beautiful bright green arching shrub if it gets a reasonable amount of water. Without much water it still lives and keeps most of its leaves all winter. Mine is about four feet tall and 6 ft wide. Of course highly recommended for scent is the evergreen Star jasmine which has a long spring blooming period and wafts big time. Night blooming jasmine is another good one that blooms all summer, but you have to stay up late to smell it as the fragrance starts wafting at about 10 or 10:30 pm. Sometimes I bring a branch into the house to enjoy indoors. Not always winter hardy I keep it in a big pot and wheel it into the green house in the winter. Also I enjoy the wafting scent of the blossoms of the tall Ligustrum hedge along the back fence. It blooms late spring, early summer. These are some of my favorite things for scent. Happy smelling :-)

I like tea unsweet, will not drink it sweet no matter what. I want it fresh brewed, don't give me yesterday's tea and definitely nothing from a can or bottle. So sugar, no sweetener, no lemon. Just fresh, clean, iced tea. I absolutely agree it depends on the individual location for fast food tea. There is one McD's near us that not only makes bad tea, the service is terrible. I can order one item and they get it wrong (most of the time it's the tea, I get it sweet when I order UNsweet), and they don't apologize for it. (I swore I'd never go back, but I just did 30 mins ago- and regret it already). I've decided it depends on whether the store manager drinks tea or not. ;o) If they do, they care how the tea is made. If not, they have no clue what makes tea good or bad. They don't clean out the container well enough or store it too long, or they use the coffee pot to fill the water. They get sloppy.

Now, Chick Fil A, they make an amazing iced tea! I'm told their sweet tea is great, too. I go out of my way to get their tea if I want to drive thru and get a tea. Most days I will pass the sloppy McD's and go to Chick Fil A or a different McDs. I made a bad choice today for the sake of convenience and a 6 y/o who was begging to go somewhere he could fill his own cup. ;o( Never. Really, I'm never going back. I mean it this time!

This is one thing I get grouchy about, bad tea. It's OK to laugh at me, my whole family does, I even laugh at myself.

Me too Stephanie! I am particular about my tea. Most of the fast food stuff isn't what it should be. I do like Chic Fil A tea. I found out that Jim Dandy uses the Irani brand of tea. I don't know where to find it. I like a tea that you can see through, not all clouds and gunk. The most horrible is when it is old tea! You might as well through that out. I love a good glass of iced tea and drink it year round.

Hmmm..baking soda, hu? I'll have to try that as, sometimes, tea DOES taste kind of "sharp".

Love Sonic's Raspberry tea but I'm on the 12 Step Program and trying to wean myself off of it.

I just love Mickey D's Sweet Tea!!! I make my own brewed tea at home but just sometimes
I want something different or I do not have any ready to heat up. I can drink a gallon of tea a day
and I always have a pot on the stove brewed that I just heat up and make a fresh pitcher.
My tea from Mickey's and at home must be without ice.

I looked at the recipe posted and that is pretty much how I make mine, but no sugar. I use my iced tea maker. I use decaf tea bags. I like the taste of the regular tea better though. I don't drink as much tea as I used to when I was younger. I still like a good glass of iced tea.

I'm with Stephanie and Marilyn Sue. I hate all sweet or flavored tea. If I wanted Koolaid I'd ask for it.

The only "flavored" tea I will drink is an occasional glas of China Mist. Some of their teas have a fruity undertone but it is verrrrry subtle and never sweet.
