Just saw a car driving down the street

with a soda cup sitting on top of the driver's side door.

When I was a kid, the people next door left for vacation. The wife had left her purse on top of the car. We found it and put it on the counter until they returned from vacation. I've probably never seen such a look of relief. And, probably, disbelief that everything was still intact.

Have you ever driven off with something on the top of your car?

We passed a car last weekend with 2 trash bags riding on the trunk lid along with a big Sonic cup and a purse. We couldn't turn around and catch up with them, but I'm sure that one of the cars coming up behind them would have let them know before they reached the highway.

I did drive down the street one day many years ago with a diaper bag on the roof of my car, but someone flashed their lights at me and pointed to the roof, so I pulled over and made the discovery. Embarrassing!

Twasn't me that did it but the item was for me. A coworker had made an angel food cake with chocolate cool whip type filling/frosting for my birthday. Yep, she put it on the roof to open the door and totally forgot it was there. lol

Consentual sex - didn't anyone tell the boy the law? Or did the parents just hand him some condoms and tell him to have safe sex as he was going out the door? I understand that some boys may be on the registry for stupidity and they will live that mistake for the rest of their lives. But let's not forget that men can always stop - stop if someone says no, stop if they think the girl is underage, stop if they are aware that the parents at at any time could charge them, stop if they have any concerns whatsoever that this isn't right. Stop. That's within their control, not the woman's. Do I feel sorry for these young men who couldn't control their hormones? Yes. Would I throw out the registry of animals because their stupidity put them in the same boat? No. Was it a case where a gal was putting out to a group of men and decided man number 6 was a rapist and the first 5 were not? I have a major problem with this comment. Is this the reason you would have done away with a registry? Because some woman put out for 5 men and on the 6th she said no? This is the very reason women don't charge men with rape. Because some snail of a defense attorney is going to put the victim on trial claim because she put out for 5 men, the 6th was no different. Shame on you Wildchild. Shame. When a woman says no, she means no. And no rational man is beyond their ability to stop. Only the animals keep on going. As for consentual sex with a minor, whatever your personal experiences are, a boy, no a man, should know and understand the consequences. I don't care if some woman sings him The Song of Sirens. If he puts his hormones in front of the law, he takes his chances. Even if the girl consented. Often times they consent because it's the captain of the football team and they want to be accepted. That doesn't make the man any less responsible. It takes more than a "he said, she said" to get put on that registry. It takes a trial, a hearing, a judge and maybe even a jury to hear all the evidence, including dragging the so-called "victim" through every relationship and every photograph and every friend she's ever had. So no, I don't cry for those on the registry, although I do agree there are some on there who may not belong. But take a look at the registry and some of the people in your neighborhood on it, and tell me they are all just poor misunderstood souls caught in a web of a lying female.

I don't like driving (or riding in a car) for long distances no matter how many people are with me. I got spoiled at 19, when I learned I could pick up a phone to call my cousin or another pilot to take me where I wanted to go. Even if there aren't airports for airliners, there is usually an airport for small aircraft in most areas you wouldn't expect to find one. But, I have driven 3 hours, 1.5 hours each way, to the outlet mall up north a bit from me. Did that several times to either go shopping or to visit a friend who lives in that town.

Around here, there's a lot of older houses that don't have garages. Or garages that are too small to hold modern mini-vans and SUVs. There are also houses that were built without driveways and later owners have had to fit them in where they can. At my dad's 1880 Victorian, the slope up from the street to the driveway is a carved granite slab. After decades of repaving the street, it's an awkward angle to drive into the driveway and the bottom of my car scrapes the granite every single time. I only park in his driveway on winter nights when on-street parking is banned. I tend to park my car on the street during the day, because I'm running errands and fetching kids from school and taking them to practice. The setup of my house and driveway is such that it is easier to park in the street. I put the car up at night, but during the day, the street is the best place for my car. Another reason some people park in the street is because their kids are playing in the driveway. They might have a basketball hoop on the garage, or if there are no sidewalks, the driveway may be the only safe place to roller skate or things like that.

Until recently, we drove older vehicles. I had a 95 Chrysler Cirrus (bought in 95) and a 02 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder (bought in 05). The Chrysler had 107,000 miles on it when sold to 16 year old as her first car. I traded the Spyder in for a 14 Chrysler 300C. Hubby drove his 99 van until the frame rusted out and we replaced with a 12 Ram 1500 PU. My family has always driven older cars. My brother has my dad's 96 Chrysler Sebring convertible and recently ventured into the 2000s by picking up a 03 Jeep Liberty. He drives multiple cars every day (utility purposes), switching between a work van, his personal 00 Dodge van and a 73 Plymouth Gran Fury. He's got a bout 7 cars (never less; you'd understand if you knew our family). My all time favorite car to drive is now in a museum. A 27 Dodge Cabriolet that was in the family for 30+ years. I loved driving it. The heavy duty truck transmission requiring double clutching, the "grabber" brakes that required an oh so gentle touch on the pedal. I miss that car.....Here's a picture of the car being loaded up to take to the museum. The guy's head that you see is the guy who's in charge of the car. We've kept in touch and they haven't modified the car at all. Still looks like this and is driven very frequently. I've been fortunate to have driven cars from every decade starting with the 1920s and I've enjoyed the heck out of each one.

DH lost two cell phones like that. I guess they got run over or something. It would have been three but someone picked that one up, checked through the "phone book" and called the number listed under "Home".

Yes.
I had my nephew over for the weekend, and dropped him off at his mother's on the way to the airport for a business trip. In getting his stuff out of the back of the car, I put my carryon bag, which included overnight necessities, on the roof.

When I got to the airport...I reached for the bag, and realized what I had done. Called my sister to check if it was on the ground outside - no bag.
BTW - my luggage tags always had the address and phone of my office, not home.

The next mid-morning, during a break in my meeting, I made my usual call back to the office to check if I had any calls, etc. (pre-cell phone days).

Our secretary said yes...a strange call came from a person who said that she found my small suitcase in the middle of a multi-lane highway (which was on my route to the airport the day before).

The secretary then asked me, in a strange voice..."did your suitcase fall out of the plane???"

I did call the person, got their address, and sent my sister over to pick up the bag.

Once I saw a salesman leave my husband's place of business with his briefcase on the top of his car. It slid off and he had a great time picking up all his paperwork. Not too many years ago while waiting for one of my daughters to come out of Lowe's, I saw a man put two sheets of drywall on top of his car, didn't tie it down and drive off down the street holding it with just his left hand!

My grandson and wife hit a crock pot on the highway once....with his mom's new car. Figured someone must have put it on their roof or trunk or something and lost it.

My DH got the mail one day and put it on the truck tailgate. Drove off somewhere later. The neighbors down the street found it and thought the mailcarrier had just thrown it out on the route. lol

Yes, my son not too longer ago could not find his loaded gun (for work). We tore the house apart. Meanwhile he drove all the way to work to see if he left it in his locker (approx. 25 miles one way) and back home and finally called his supervisor to tell him (they have to report it when a police officer's gun is missing). The next morning my dil looked out the front window and there it was on the roof of the jeep.

I said my late husband (his father) must have been watching over him this time. Needless to say, he hasn't or won't do that again.

I backed out of our driveway many years ago with one of my DD's baby bottles on the roof of the car! It fell off a block or so away and I heard it so got it.
DH has driven all over town with tools on the bumper of his pickup! He was amazed when he pulled up the driveway and back into the garage and walked behind his pickup and saw a hammer and screwdriver laying on the bumper!

Live in a condo, and people are all the time driving to the dumpster with their garbage bags on top of the cars. Some fall off, and that's a MESS!

I was out watering my flowers one day when a car came down the street with a casserole on top of it.I yelled at them and they stopped,and thanked me profusely as they were on their way to a party.

A couple years ago i was washing my car and i laid my cordless phone on the back of DH's pick-up,and forgot all about it.He later left to go to the store,and it was only then i remembered the phone.When he got back i checked for it,but it was gone.We walked around a few blocks ,that he had driven,but never found it.

I was gardening, took off my gloves and set them on the car in the driveway. Drove to the grocery store, on the way home I saw a glove "just like mine" lying in the road. Stopped and it was mine. I found the mate in my driveway.

On top of the car? No, but a former neighbor asked if we had seen her trashcan, which was missing. Later she drove by with the trashcan stuck under her truck. It was making such a racket that we wondered why she didn't catch on, but then she always was a sandwich short of a picnic . . . .

We were taking our grandson home one time and there was a brand new freezer in the middle of the road...we pulled it over to the side and left it...I hope whoever lost it, found it...the lid was sprung, but there wasn't a scratch on it...

years ago was at a car wash, a young girl had put her purse on top of her car to vacume inside, then drove off; I could not catch her, so picked up the purse,inside was a paycheck stub, so called her at work and told her I had her purse. In her purse she had her engagement ring, and a few hundred dollars.. so she was VERY happy to get them back... but here is why I now believe in karma, a few months later I dropped my wallet out of my purse, I'm sure while searching for keys...comming out of a restaurant, had over 500.00 needed to rent a Uhaul next day as we were moving... well someone turned my wallet to the restaurant. I was called, and got every penny back !!

I have a minivan so it wouldn't be practical to put something on the roof for a minute. LOL Monica-did it fall out of the plane!!!!! A crockpot in the road?? Imagine explaining to your parents the dent in the car!!

No but one time I followed a guy out of a gas station when he forgot to hang up the gas hose and drove off with it. The woman at the gas station said that it always happened. I thought that was very strange.

Years ago DS was playing ball in the street (we lived in a very quiet neighborhood)I warned him to be careful of his new glasses. So he took them off and put them on the trunk of a car parked by the curb......Never saw those glasses again. Dottie

I saw this last summer. A pickup truck with a load of lumber in the bed, the tail gate down, to accomodate the long load. He had stopped for a red light. The light turned green and the handyman in his haste to get home stepped on the gas pedal a bit too much - the entire load handily slid out of the truck and was strewn across the intersection. Truck stops; Following traffic makes noises with brakes. Two embarrased guys gets out and pick up lumber (amid cat calls from other drivers) and tosses it into the truck. They quickly moved to the side of the road - other drivers were nice enough to slow and or stop to allow them to cross the traffic lanes.

I drove off several years ago with my wallet on top of my car..(laid it there while strapping the kid in his car seat...dumb I know!)..I was at my sisters in a small town in Illinois...all my credit cards and cash was in there...by the time I realized it I was 20 miles away...went back...my sis told me to go by the police Station...he was holding up my wallet when I walked in...A women saw it fall off when I left the parking lot...she picked it ALL up and took it to the police station...she wouldn't leave her name...so I wrote a letter to the paper THANKING HER and telling the people of that small town how lucky they were to have such a women living in their town...

When my child was a baby, I was terrible about that - too much on my mind, I think - my mind had to be working on too many "lists". I finally gave up trying to bring a cup of coffee with me to work, it was never going to get out of my neighborhood *LOL*

One morning I bought a cup of tea at a deli and set the cup on the roof for just a second while I got out my keys to open the cardoor. A woman yelled out "Watch your tea." Like I was a dimwit. I thanked her but had no plans to drive off with the tea on top of the car.

Not me -- but dh took off his glasses to walk the dog in the rain & left them on the car trunk... yup - drove off... looked & looked & looked..... 5 months later I was walking the dog & did find the lenses but no temple pieces.. all scratched up -- they'd lasted thru the winter snow & snow plows...
It is a Snopes thing -- or has someone left a baby in the seat on the roof??

I found a money bag once a neighbor,her husband was a dentist.It was full of money,checks,savings acc,daughters graduation photos.i took it to thier office,no thanks no nothing,she asked where the magazine was that was with it...imagine,she laid it on top forgot it

With my one pickup I was frequently driving off with the gas cap on top of the topper. I had it survive home a time or two, once it dropped down and caught on the rear bumper, once I found it in the street, then I finally lost it for good. Same pickup carried a box of tools 125 miles, open. One of the socket sets (and an expensive one) with a couple screwdrivers and pliers on top. How it did it, I have no idea. I guess I was living right at the time. So I was pretty good until a year or two ago I was loading up at a motel and brought out something, set it down while I opened the back of the van. Had to go to the side of the van for something and sure enough, got distracted and backed into it while I was leaving. Heard the noise and thought at first my breaks were catching. Well in a way they were. Then it hit me. Got out and the owner of the motel started yelling that I had something behind me! DUH, yeah, I figured it out.

When I managed gas stations people would drive off occasionally with the nozzle in the car. And they'd get upset when we gave them a bill for it. And one woman set the baby bucket on top of the car, got gas, came in and paid, and yep, got in, started up and put it in gear. I saw what was happening so I was on my way out the door when she put it in gear and yelled. And she was offended that I yelled at her. Sometimes you can't win.

We were going motor home camping once......DH left the big cast iron skillet on the back bumper. We drove from our little town on the coast to Fresno, about 130 miles, where we gassed up. The frying pan was still there!
