How would you have done this differently (pic)?
Comments (22)Deb, I just had a thought. Since the height of those roses bothers you, is it possible to dig another row at the back end of the "L"? I can't tell from the pics how much sunlight that area gets and what directions the shadows go, but if there is sufficient sunlight, you could move the taller roses back there and they could be easily seen because of their height. Then for the narrow row along the steps, plant a hedge row of smaller roses--let's say Virgin of Guadelupe. The lighter color would contrast with the brick color of the house, and she has a fuller floribunda look--graceful bush and kinda frilly looking bloom. I've only had mine one season now, but I seem to remember that I picked her because she only gets around 3 ft tall, and she is supposed to be pretty good on disease-resistance. You might even stick in a few annuals around her ankles--maybe some blue lobelia and/or white alysium (sp?). Or a shorter yellow floribunda might look nice against that brick color--you could ask the forum for some more suggestions in that category. Just another thought. I think planning is half the fun sometimes of rose gardening. Kate...See MoreSpring fever & boredom=Lots O' Pics
Comments (29)thanks everyone :) Actually the peeing Pit (Luke) isnt mine, lol. He belongs to my sis. The solid GSP (Daisy)is mine, & the ESS (Duke) is mine. The little Pit puppy (Jade) I had given to my sis. She was there there that day to pick her up..was my last day with the puppies..was sad. O duh, there are no pix of Duke in that batch, lol. Karma, you can keep the rain!! My yard has been so wet and swampy the last month or so, I can't even deal with it. Caren, ooo, what kind of palms?? Lucy, hon, I NEVER wear gloves. Cant stand 'em. I need to feel what I am doing! So I'm sure I probably grabbed that bag, right where he peed on it, threw it over my shoulder, and probably with my luck, had the pee spot touching my neck, lol. Was decent here yesterday b4 the rain snow mix started coming down. I was outside till it started, trimming trees, and I cut a couple smaller mulberry trees down..shhh dont tell DH, lol. I cut up & hid the evidence b4 he came home! I dont know why he likes those stupid trees. Theresa, the MG tree is lavender. But the first blooms were white, the more blooms it got, the darker the color got. I wish I had pink & white too..gotta work on that. I'm glad your fishies are still alive. Did your MOO flower? thanks again, everyone :) Can't wait for the new season to start and take a million more pix, lol....See MoreI've narrowed down my backsplash. Purdy please help. Lots o pics
Comments (39)Just in case anyone checks back I think I found what I love the most. A really nice girl at United Tile helped me out so much. I almost gave up going there because I never got much help. Anyhow, she let me take home sample boards that have been grouted. I can't believe how much this has helped my decision. My mom and dad came over, bless them as they came over ASAP, and right when they walked in they said "that's the one" pointing to the Walker Zanger polished calacatta. They said it just does so much for the kitchen and I totally agree. The 4x12 samples I have are honed which I thought I liked but much prefer the polished as it adds some warmth. I almost threw out the idea of marble. Thank goodness I had a free day to drive to this store! And the girl said if I know a contractor I'll get contractor's price-my brother is a contractor! Yeh! In these picks you will see beveled subway (my 2nd choice), thassos marble (a little too plain), glass subway (way to contemporary now that I see it grouted and too much shine), and the calacatta is the one with the most veining. I sure hope this helps anyone else out there with soapstone unsure of what to do. beveled subway (left) calacatta (next to beveled) glass far right (too glossy and more blue in person-very cold) thassos to the left...See MoreShow me your pics of kitchens w/o islands...
Comments (14)Buehl-- we're hoping that the spare bedroom upstairs will end up becoming the new playroom, and some stuff will be in their rooms. We'll end up with a small toy chest in the living room and the rest upstairs. So the whole "new space" thats created when we take down the wall will just be kitchen and dining room. After seeing Raenjapan's kitchen I may be swayed back to keeping the kithen to the left side and moving the bench for the banquette along the 94" wall and putting a penninsula between the other two windows. Lyvia-- the two 24" bases you see in the current kitchen are actually an island with a strange overhang. I wouldn't be able to put a fridge there. (I know the drawing is a little confusing, it was drawn mostly to show the layout of the first floor.) I also think I won't really have room for two separate seating areas in the kitchen, even if one is really small. Once I start drawing things in, and factoring in wide enough walkways it gets crowded fast. nini & florantha-- seems like G-shaped kitchens are more popular than I thought!!! That is what I origianlly was thinking for the kitchen (towards the left of the empty floorplan above). I love hearing that you have this same thing and it works for you. Also, we currently have Austrailan Cypress flooring in about 75% of the downstairs and plan to push it right through the new kitchena nd dining space as well. Its really beautiful (here is the internet pic.) LRy-- I think the pendants are from Ikea. if not, they are almost identical. If you go to their website ikea-usa.com I think under other departments they list lighting, and its 3 or 4 pages in. $29.99!! I saw them last weekend in person and fell in love. They are really sharp looking. Mnerg-- there are LOTS of possibilities with this blank space. TOO many! LOL! I am having a terrible time making up my mind. I keep worrying I won't ever get it right! I have also considered a small movable table for the center of the kitchen. I guess if I end up with a large center space I can always buy something like that to hang out in the middle when I need it to. Thanks everyone for all the help!!...See Moretresw
