The only deep fryer we have is attached to our stainless gas grill outside, but the few times a year we eat catfish, we fry it in the deep fryer outside so it doesn't stink up the house.

I've barely ever used mine and last time I did I think the temperature control was broken. The bugged me because I really don't use it enough to replace it.

I last used it to make Easy Biscuit Doughnuts. It's the first time I made them and boy were they good, especially for the amount (or lack of) effort required.

Usually just meats - chicken breasts, fish and fried turkeys.

Once in a while we have fried fish in Canola Oil, but that's it. Usually outside. But, my SIL does it best where there is no oily taste at all.

I rarely use mine anymore as we are trying to cut down on fried stuff.I use to cook everything that was "fryable" in mine.I even used mine for frying bacon! Works great and not near as messy as frying in a skillet.
Paula-I have made those donuts for years.My kids loved them.Occasionally I have a "hankering" for them and will make a batch.Not often though because I have to go to the store and buy a can of biscuits as I never use canned biscuits anymore.Thankfully they aren't worth a special trip to Wal-Mart.LOL They are good sprinkled with powdered sugar too.

I love my deep fryer!!!

I love to bread shrimp in those panko crumbs and deep fry. I make "french fries" out of eggplant, bread it and fry it.
Panko crumbs are so crunchy! I always crush mine a little bit more and perhaps put a little flour in with it. chicken tenders rolled in beaten egg...dipped into the panko crumbs and then deep fried. Shrimp done the same way. Eggplant done the same way!!!
I love fried food....but I try not to eat as much of it as I was raised eating! My Mama still seems to fry everything and she weighs about 80 pounds dripping wet! Well...being 4'7 doesn't help either.....LOL

Oh...hush puppies with fried fish. Fried dill pills. ONIONS RINGS....oh my...the list can just go forever!

I get mine out once in a while - but I just can't stand the smell! Even with fresh oil - It just stinks. I know it isn't just me - I have a couple friends with different brand friers and they complain of the same thing.

I usually just pan fry.

I love home made egg rolls - yum! I just put an inch or so of oil in the pan and fry them. I use tongs to turn them and it works great. They don't seem as greasy as using the deep frier either.

Salt and Pepper Shrimp
Ingredients:
1 pound large shrimp
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, white pepper or Szechuan peppercorn, or to taste
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, for stir-frying
1 garlic clove, minced
1 red chilli pepper, deseeded and chopped, optional
1/4 cup chopped green onion
Preparation:
Soak the shrimp in warm, lightly salted water for 5 minutes. Rinse in cold water, drain and pat dry with paper towels. Lightly coat the shrimp with the cornstarch.
In a small bowl, mix the salt with the freshly ground pepper and set aside.
Heat 2 tablespoons in a preheated wok on medium high to high heat. When the oil is hot, add the shrimp and stir-fry until they turn pink. Remove from the wok. Clean out the wok.
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in the wok. When the oil is hot, add the minced garlic, chili pepper and the salt and pepper mixture. Stir-fry until fragrant (10 - 15 seconds) and then add the shrimp back into the wok. Stir-fry to coat the shrimp in the salt and pepper mixture. Stir in the green onion or serve as a garnish with the shrimp.

Each serving contains: Calories 236, 7 g Carbohydrates, 23 g Protein, 12 g Fat, 173 mg Cholesterol, 1 g Fibre, 641 mg Sodium, 286 mg Potassium. A good source of calcium and vitamin A.

I haven't had one in 10 years, but when I did have one I used it for Chinese food (egg rolls, won tons & chicken balls) as well as french fries, onion rings, battered chicken and battered cod.

French Fries, which I have about once a week. Fried chicken. As my daughter says, anything tastes better fried!

I have one that I haven't used in years....I hated the smell too, just as Iowagirl said. I packed it away and never opened it again. Then DH had his heart attack and we quit eating fried foods. I love fried foods, but can't have too many anymore. I remember it was smelly and a greasy mess to clean. Another reason to hate it LOL....
