Range not quite centered under rangehood

Cabinets and range were installed on Friday. I noticed this morning that the range was not quite centered under the range hood. Range hood is an insert with a cabinet type surround. There is a cabinet on each side of the range hood.

When I measured to see how off center the range was, it was 5/8". Most people probably won't notice, but I do.

To fix it, the cabinet people will have to redo several cabinets in the base line.

Would you make them do it or just live with the range being slightly off center from the hood?

Are these custom cabinets or semi-custom on a 3" increment?

I did a kitchen where exactly centering the range hood over the range would have required a super skinny filler at one end in an obvious location, a cabinet 3" smaller with a wide filler, or pulling the entire base cabinet run on one run from the wall, which would have meant a seamed end panel on the tall cabinet end of that run.

Based upon these variables,having the range hood 1/2" off center seemed the most acceptable option, although this was discussed with the owner in advance.

Ask them, there may be a good reason. You may still want it redone, but there could be something other than a mistake behind it.

These are 100% custom cabinets. There is a filler at the very end of this cabinet run, so if we moved the cabinets down, the cabinets themselves would not have to change.

It would require moving a 3 cabinets one of which has the gas line in it. The range is a 36" duel fuel. The range hood design has a center stile in it so I noticed that the stile didn't quite line up with the center of the range.

Hoss feathers, Hollysprings. Many of us have ovens that have both convection and no convection, yet we don't use convection all the time, and stuff still comes out great, (without the convection). I've cooked things both ways, meatloafs, stuffed bell peppers, spaghetti pie, (No cookies thou)and I would be hard pressed to tell which was baked which way. In fact I have a hard time to get the wife to use the convection in the Elux oven, even thou we've had it over 5 years now, She was just used to her old oven in the range and things came out great and it didn't have convection. There does seem to be a particular problem with the GE ovens thou, especially without convection, did you Note Rhome's Psycadellic pizza that she cooked in her GE oven? I suspects she has no such problems with her Wolf now regardless of whether she chooses convection or not! Gary

I got a private label re-branded Zephyr Typhoon from Signature Hardware on clearance for $350 in black. I know it is the exact same as the typhoon because the interior schematic maps are identical. Their website has it spec'd as 600 cfm but I do not believe this; I believe this is the full blown 850 cfm typhoon. I love this hood and it was a great price, see how strong it is, that is a full size corningware french white quiche pan it is holding up (basically like a pyrex pie pan - and note that in this picture the second fan is wide open during this)!! But do beware this hood is a BEAR to install due to finicky mounting hole locations, and you would need at least two adults if you do it yourself and don't want to be frustrated. Also, on the "slanted" underside: this is engineered into the hood so the draft is more efficient at pulling the fumes/steam/heat that you want up into the fan. If the surface were only straight down, then some of the fumes/steam/heat would escape up the front surface outside the hood. That angle provides a small CROSS angle current so it is sucking up from directly below and also a small proportion from frontward, so more is captured. A hood is first a functional piece of equipment and secondarily a cosmetic consideration! We have an oven/microwave combo (KitchenAid). If I could redo my kitchen I might do that part differently. I did not know when I designed my kitchen last year that microwave drawers were a thing. If I had known I might have chosen that with a built in oven instead. I do not dislike our oven/microwave however I do have concerns about the microwave breaking. The fan was actually broken when we installed it, and we had to get it repaired. So if something happens to it, I know we will have to pull the entire unit out to get it fixed which is more of a pain than just fixing a microwave. The other issue I have with it is that microwave is a little higher than I would like. We installed the unit 1.5" higher than they recommend (so I could have a 15" drawer below) and since I'm only 5'3" the microwave is a little bit high for me. Even installing it at suggested height would still leave it higher than the ideal. A drawer would be a nicer height most likely. I definitely like having a separate gas rangetop and built in oven. There are many reasons I want them separate, so a range was never an option for me. But I probably won't combine the oven and microwave again if I did another kitchen.

Sound advice. Clearly, this house design needs to be immediately scrapped and a new design created where the entire house is centered on the range hood. Food will be so yummy, clothes will never get dirty and the cat will be super happy...! That's a bit of a stretch...I'm allergic to cats. And the only way the clothes would never get dirty is if I can get my not-a-butlers-pantry beverage station tucked in a special place with a pass through to the porch. Then every meal will be perfection, the drinks will be served with flair, the kids will be mindful angels, and I just tug my left ear and the house becomes spotless.

With a custom kitchen, that measurement should be dead on center.

Hubby talked to the cabinet guys this morning. They already knew the range wasn't quite center and were working on a solution. I had a suggestion which they thought worked. They had it fixed by lunch time. Much better now. I'm glad we made sure to ask though.
