With a VS and that remote, you would need to add the IntelliCom. The remote is a good one as far as handhelds go but it will not interface. Why are they not selling you the Jandy 8 speed? Revision O of the Jandy product allows direct connection to the pump but if you ask the inventor of the pump, he'll tell you it could be a disaster. I'm a bit leary of going that way until time proves that rev O is a working alternative to the IntelliCom. I'm guessing with a 4 function unit you are maxed out on circuits but a creative installer can make it work for your needs with the IntelliCom.

If you are getting an intelliflo, why not get an intellitouch, or easy touch.

Our PB is one of the national guys and they offer primarily Pentair pumps and filters, so I guess that's why they offered the IntelliFlo when we said we wanted something energy efficient. But, they use all Jandy control products. So, if we have the IntelliCom will that give us the ability to program the pump to increase/decrease speeds on its own or will we still be manually increasing and decreasing speeds with the PDA.

It will, however someone has to purchase that intellicom to work with this system. That is a $600 expense to you. With an easytouch or intellitouch, you can either save money or break even, but you get seamless integration, and in the case of an intellitouch a better controller, but I wouldn't overlook the easy touch the price/performance ratio is hard to beat.

ugadawgs - How is the pump planned to be used, for daily circulation and filtering only or will this pump be asked to multi-task for other water features requiring higher flow.

If you are interested in efficiency as your original post states, then a Jandy 2 speed pump will interface with your Jandy PDA wireless without any problems and save a lot of coin also. This will offer good efficiency at low speed filtering for your pool. Not quite as good as Intelliflo at low speed, but the 2 speed will outmatch the Intelliflo handily for any high flow applications if your are multi-tasking.

Just wanted to make sure you're aware of another energy efficient option out there other than variable speed and that today's current variable speed is not good for multi-tasking for those wishing to save energy.

Just realized I mentioned Jandy pumps in my post and to be non-biased here this was only because you are considering a Jandy control system also. The Jandy PDA system will work with any 2 speed motor and if your or your PB favors Pentair, their 2 speed pumps will work with the Jandy PDA also.

Reminder. You have a small system. A PDA4 will control one pump, two lights and one other circuit. If you go with variable, you are limited to what you can do w/o getting into a secondary type of workaround install that I'm sure your builder in not familiar with. You would still need that IntelliCom though.

If the builder is a Pentair shop, I'm wondering why they are not using Pentair automation. Your warranty will extend with
a pump, filter and any other product. The Jandy RS system is a great system and always has been, until it breaks, at which time it costs a fortune to repair. If you stick with it, consider the PDA 6 for an ability to use additional circuits for your potential pump. Still, it is cheaper to go with he Pentair automation.

If you go with 2-speed, that PDA4 is maxed out if you have 2 lights. You need 2 relay slots for the pump AND a $200 relay. If you have a need for any other circuits, you have no space. Again, an upgrade to a 6 or 8 is in order.

Thanks for the info repair guy, racket and trhought. I'm a little confused on how many circuits I'll actually need. We have one Intelliflo VS pump for the pool and spa, a blower for the spa, two lights in the pool (which I would think would both either be on or off at the same time), one light in the spa (again, which I think would be either on or off at the same time as the pool lights), and a booster pump for the Polaris cleaner. The landscape lights are actually going to be controlled by timer boxes so no need to control them with the remote. Based on the above, would I need more than 4 circuits (assuming all pool/spa lights will be on/off at the same time)?

Forgot one...In addition to the items mentioned in the post above we also have a heater that we would like to be able to control.

Assume a normal run of the mill pump.

Filter = Filter
AUX 1 = Booster (required by design)
AUX 2 = Pool lights
AUX 3 = Spa light

Nothing left for air blower or control of a variable speed pump (without work around). You can direct wire your VS to the relay but it will default on and off to the speed you set. If you want (and you should) different speeds, it would look like this.

Speed 1 = Normal circ. (should be high enough to feed booster)

Speed 2 = Spa jets.

The work around will work when you use the spa (IntelliCom needed) and you can also do another speed if you DO NOT have solar. You can also set two different speeds for spa jet use (again, IntelliCom needed) in this config.

It requires someone who has done this before but can be done.

OR, go with an EasyTouch 8 wireless and be done with it. Very simple.

If you go with 2 speed, you're screwed even more as your booster needs to be on AUX 1 by design and your 2 speed relay needs to be in AUX 2 b y design. That leaves AUX 3 for pool lights, spa light and air blower.

Sounds like you're being sold short on the PDA4 if you ask me. The heater will connect to the load side of FILTER and also to the board so there are no issues there.

Why not just have it connect to the low voltage heater terminal?

I though AGA required that they not go through the pump relay because of post purge requirements.

Thanks, repair guy. Sounds like I need to just get them to use a pentair control system. I definitely want to get the benefit of the energy savings of the intelliflo and be able to control all other items. I'm not sure why they sell all Pentair filters and pumps but Jandy control systems. I assume its because they get better discounts from the manufacturers. So far, we have been really happy with our PB but it sounds like they may not be up to speed on the intelliflo and how to properly control/use it. Being in Georgia we are just now getting around to the "Green" initiatives so until just recently nobody really focused on energy savings.

I'm guessing they are going with what they know. Pentair automation is a bit chaotic if you've never done it. My 8 year old can program a Jandy.
