anyone ever had laryngitis?

I have had laryngitis since last week. Has anyone ever had it this long? I was very sick 2 weeks ago and in bed for 6 days with a fever/bronchitis. I don't think I ever was that sick in my life. Anyway, the next week I get laryngitis and still have it a week later. What can I do to help it. I try not to talk but....... that's hard for me. LOL

Do you have a soar throat or any other symptom that would indicate that type of infection?

If not, then I sugest that it is caused by something other than bacterial infection.

I use to get laryngitis, "out of the blue" no soar throat or cold or anything that you would expect to go along with it.

It turned out to be a vertebrae in my neck that was out of place. It was corrected by a Chiropractor. After a few visits it was able to stay where it should.

I think since you spent 6 days in bed, you could have easily dislocated something that would cause the nerve to the laryanix (sp?) to be pinched.

That is based on my own experience, but if you have no other infectious indicators, it is very possible.

I get it all the time, longest was for about 6 weeks. never less than three weeks. Just a thing with me I guess.
The trick is not to try and talk but to whisper until the voice box is healed. trying to talk will only prolong it.

"It's the GE washing machine in our apartment - probably a cheapie - but not a public laundry room." OK, good. But citing the model number off the machine's tag would be even better for confirming what you have .. frontloader, HE toploader or standard. Does anyone in the household use acne medication? Benzoyl peroxide is a bleaching agent and will cause spotting on fabric. Some toothpastes could possibly do that. Or household cleaning agents. I've gotten what appear to be bleach spots on several pairs of casual shorts, khaki color and black. Not all pairs I have (all washed together) are affected, and all the spotting didn't occur at the same time. I suspect it was caused by splatters from toilet cleaner.

About 30+ years ago when I was driving my kids to school, I had my first panic attack. At the time I did not know what it was, but it scared the heck out of me. My heart was racing, my chest felt tight and I felt like I was going to faint. I had never experienced anything like it. I was at a stop sign a block from the school and just froze there. I managed to pull over, catch my breath and then felt ok. I did see a doctor later that day and was told it sounded like a panic attack and that it was no big deal. Well it was!! Because it happened while I was driving I became worried that it would happen again, so each time I drove I became very anxious and continued to get them. I finally found a therapist who helped me control them with self talk, breathing exercises and meditation, but it took several months. Thankfully I have not had one since that time, but I sympathize with those that suffer with them. I can see how it could consume someone's life. I was at a point where I did not want to drive anymore. When I was a kid, my mom would quite often have what she called "dizzy spells", but they were actually panic attacks.

Also, you will need to get a camera that will go the distance needed for how far away your plants are. Our house is very close to the road. Judy, I've had it longer than 1 week after a flu or a severe cold. I've had it many times. It's always been "just a virus", and eventually my voice came back. As you well know, it's very frustating.

There are differences of opinion on whispering vs talking. I subscribe to the opinion that whispering is worse than regular talking. However, you really need to restrict talking as much as possible.

Are you still coughing? If so, you need to find a way to suppress it. The doc told me that every time you cough when you have laryngitis, it strains the larynx.

You should also drink lots of water. The medical advice includes adding humidity to your environment, if it's dry. I found long hot showers would help. The medical advice also includes avoiding cigarette smoke and fumes.

Thanks everyone, good advice that I will use.

I was afraid my voice was never coming back.

Dottie.... my husband said the same thing. "I kinda like this laryngitis thing you have going on" LOL
