Images Of Craftsmanship

John Liu

I thought we might have a thread of images that illustrate our diverse interpretations of the concept of ''craftsmanship'' in a kitchen context.

This is actually a picture already posted on an old thread, but recycling is good, is it not?

It is a bank of drawers in a friend's kitchen. Like the rest of the cabinetry in this small kitchen, the drawers are plain and humble. Plain, and precise. Each drawer box is solid wood, closely fitted to the opening in the carcass, and tightly aligned to the adjoining drawers. The drawers slide smoothly on waxed wooden glides (runners) with the channel integral to the drawer sides. Unlike typical kitchen cabinetry, there is no separate drawer face or face frame, to conceal loose gaps, and no adjustable metal slide that can be tweaked by turning a screw. This cabinetry was built like real, old-school furniture.

What image illustrates craftsmanship, for you? I'd like to see them. I know you DIY'ers will have some.
