Son's girlfriend passed away

Our son has been seeing a girl for only about a month, was at her place , woke up and she had died.! She had a lot of health issues, bi polar, etc. They will be doing autopsy to determine the cause. He called at 7 a.m. we went to drive him back and pick up his car. He is a wreck. This is the son who has had so much problems, depression, anxiety, is on disability because he can't handle the stress of working. I don't know what this will do to him, he seemed to really love her in a short time. It broke my heart when he brought her pillow and slippers home with him. Will be taking him to his therapist as soon as we hear from her. We weren't too happy with his choice of girls, and was hoping it would end, but not this way. Please keep Steve in your thoughts and prayers.

George, I'm so very sorry for the loss of your precious son. I too know the pain of losing a child. It is a pain that will always be with you. Be good to yourself and grieve the way you need to and for as long as you need to. The poem is a beautiful tribute to your son and shows the love that you have for him. You will always love him. I don't agree with Joe Biden on many things, but I have always felt that he was a good man. And I have always been impressed by the fact that he raised those two boys, despite the long hours his job demanded (and the long commute times). I can't begin to imagine the pain he is feeling right now. My heart goes out to him and his family...and especially to Beau's children.

Hmm, since I don't know whether it would bring them peace, I'm not inclined to do so. The excavation has been delayed until next month, so if she should contact us again and want to come dig up the remains or have my DH do so, we would be okay with that. But we're not going to contact her or make any offers at this point because once we have our permits we want to get started without delay. I think, at this point, it isn't that important to them, as we've offered multiple options and they have had months before and after the completed sale to get the dog's remains. We'll consider any future requests, as long as they don't disrupt the building process. Once excavation starts it will be too late.

You're right, Snidely, we traveled quite a bit with them when they were younger. They had been to Europe a couple of times, Hawaii, Alaska, and lot's of states in between. Mamatoad, no we haven't talked this weekend--I think he's quite busy and we won't be able to talk to them next weekend because they are going to Lisbon for their anniversary (2 years of dating). Chisue, he was home for Christmas for 9 days. Not nearly long enough. DD was home for 3 weeks. I am a blubbering fool when they leave:( Thanks, everyone, for the kind words and the birthday wishes

That would be a horrible thing to happen to anyone, but especially to someone who is struggling with depression.

My son's wife died when she was young and they were only married six years, it was horrible. I loved her like a daughter. It's been nine years now and my son still hasn't fully recovered. He never married but keeps busy with work and friends. God bless both of them and may she rest in peace.

Thank you all. She was 40. He is 41. I,m watching him pretty closely, he tried to sleep, but got up and started cleaning up a flower bed. Hope he can crash pretty soon, he needs it, besides he has a cold.

I am so sorry for his loss. You are so right in watching him closely right now and getting him to his therapist. I hope your son finds the solutions to his mental health problems also. Good for you for being there for him.

This is so very sad - I hope your son finds help - perhaps a grief support group.

You said he started cleaning a flower bed instead of sleeping. My father died on June 21st, 1983. Once we got home my brother started mowing the lawn. Sometimes the pain is so real and so deep you need to engage in physical activity - something you have control over - to get away from it.

I hope his therapist provides the support he needs, and I know your LOVE will help him too.

I am sorry for such a traumatic loss, and for your suffering as well. My brother lost his 37 year old wife in a very similar situation, I think he only recovered because of their children. I did something quite similar when my grandma passed, I needed to be alone and feel close to God, I don't think one is ever closer than when working in nature.

OMG..how tragic! I'm so sorry and wish I had words of comfort that would help ease the pain. Right now I'm sure your son has the benefit of the blessing of shock! In the weeks and months ahead, that will begin wo wear off, and reality will begin to set in. That's when he will really need comfort! All of you are in my Prayers!!
