Who here has the Cricut or My story book binder?

I just bought both of these on HSN, it was a bundle package. My question is on the book binder where do you buy your binders. I only see black and brown offered on there. I want prettier colors! And on the cricut my ? is how often do you find that you have to change to a new cutting mat? I used to have the Xyron cutting system and it seemed to go through the mats quite often, I'm hopiong these will last longer. I don't have it yet...should be getting it next week. I can't wait to play with it...my scrapbooking is sooo far behind and with a new one coming I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed....I think this will help motivate me and speed things up too!

I have looked at the Your Story binding system and it looks neat...I can't tell you anything about it, but would love to hear about it from you!

I have a Zutter Bind-It-All. I have used it quite a bit.

Basically, Winter was Winter. We loved her as she was--quite seemingly dumb. This dumbness lead to many funny things, and a couple of dangerous ones. She was well--but different--the whole time we had her. Each hen has her own personality, and Winter was crabby toward the other hens. We don't cull because someone doesn't play well. Her body was very healthy the whole time we had her--up until the end. Because of the danger the "dumbness" got her into, we always expected her to be the next to go. She never was. We got most of our chickens as other people's cast-offs: old. Our flock is mostly 5-6 year olds. They were going to be food, but we took them and are allowing them to enjoy the rest of their existence. Winter was a little "stiff" in the mornings as old folks often are. I believe she was older than the other chickens, but she was not given to me directly by the people who had her. I have an Amish pen-pal, and wrote quite a lot about Winter in my letters questioning if it was age. My friend said it sounded most like she was quite old. I also checked with other chicken people, and researched in many books about her stiff gait in the morning. I figured it was stiffness because she wasn't like that all day--she had to warm up some. Our farmer neighbor thought she may be visually impaired because she had difficulty finding her way in at night. We had a couple of hens that liked to stay out late. Winter was the only one who had difficulty with orientation after dusk. She was well for 2 years. The last week and a half, there was a "change in status". She seemed tired. I watched her for a few of days like that, and she didn't deteriorate as such. One morning, another chicken went after her at the food trough, and she didn't look good to me that morning. I brought her inside, and started nursing her. She had 9-lives, so I figured I should feed her and try to bring her around. She rallied after a couple of days: standing up, eating, and pooping just right. She filled her crop up and everything. Great! I assumed she was on the mend, and we beat it. After a couple/few days of improvement, she took a turn, and I gave her a day to see if she would rally again. After a day like that (twirling, and responding to outside stimuli as if she were falling), I knew she was done. The farmer was unavailable that day, and took care of it the next. Time line: 2 years good. Some time as a stiff ol' girl that went away as the day passed, and a week and a half in "hospital" in my home. I am sorry I was unclear when I first posted, but I was so depressed my writing was confusing--I'll admit that. Having had 2 head injuries in my family, she seemed like something was wrong in the hind brain. I know that cannot be fixed, so we let her live her life as long as she got herself up, and ate, we didn't mind helping an ol' girl down out of her box each morning. She enjoyed being held and her time inside where it was warm. She never laid many eggs, and this summer it was only a couple--I think she was maybe 8 years old or something. I can say with confidence that it wasn't an organism. Nobody else has it, and it did not track as an invading organism. Also, had I continued to feed her--even in her dizzy state, I believe her body would have gone on, and on. She was physically sound. Her brain was out of order. Looking back, her stiffness may have been the beginnings of brain deterioration. Had a vet told me her brain was going months earlier, and said that she was otherwise sound, I still would have let her live as long as she was her crabby & dumb self. That was her "status". We use the dumb as a term of endearment believe it or not--that is why we can say it was amusing. I still would have let her live until such a time that the twirling came a long and her mind seemed completely gone. My time line may be of a day in either direction, but there was no cruelty or neglect. Our chickens are spoiled. Their house rarely even has an odor. Some of them step out of the flock and come to us when we call them by name. I do appreciate the input here that attempts to help find answers. I was wondering if this is something that occurs in chickens, or was specific to Winter either through stroke, injury, or old age. It would be nice if "exotic pets" covered chickens. It seems more to mean "tropical pets" rather than pets other than cats & dogs, and maybe the occasional bunny. As birds go, chickens are hardy, and you can work with them TO A POINT. Birds have a far more delicate constitution than dogs or cats, and (hyperbole here) if you look at them cross-eyed they can drop dead. If there were vets who would investigate chickens as pets, I believe the books on chickens would be much better. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year, and had a great Christmas. Robin

Shee, you are feeling things that are very normal, to whatever degree, they are your feelings. If they persist, talk to your doc. Ask your girlfriends for a pediatrician referral if you don't like the one you're with. I had to change when DD was 3, and so happy that I did so. The previous ped wanted to prescribe an antibiotic for a walk thru the door, not okay with DH & me. I found my doc profiled in a publication and he was on staff at the major children's hospital in the city, which was important. Your son will have this doc for a long time and you need to be really good with your choice. As for your birth experience, the memory will fade. I know it isn't what you were expecting. However, I think there were a few things that may not have been in your control. Also being a first time mom is hard, and then there is the age-old hard to break habit of believing that all docs are doing a great job. They aren't. I don't want to comment further on your doc & your experience, but it makes me a bit frustrated for you. Enjoy your DS, DH and turn the phone off. When my own DD came home (under very different medical circumstances), I did have help, but they answered the phone. I spent my time concentrating on getting well and caring for my new baby. Rest, I can't stress enough how much better you will feel with enough rest. Also, maybe you can get outside for a bit with the baby if the weather isn't too too hot where you are. I know infant's inner temperature control isn't great, but maybe we will get a day where it will be cool enough to enjoy a bit of time outside. It's a process, I wish you and your DH the best with your new adorable baby boy!

If you are just looking for the passage, and you know that it is an actual quote by the the true to life Rabbi Hillel, you might google the name of the book and add Hillel and see what you get. The " 'Who diminishs himself, diminishes me and who diminishes another, diminishes me. ....' certainly is familiar to me, I suspect I can find it in one of my more modern Siddur (prayer books). He is also the one who said 'If I am not for myself, who will be for me?, If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?"

That feeding of deer is so, so very dumb. How do folks get to the point that they think they are "helping" the situation when feeding wild animals, the survival of which-at least as a species-absolutely cannot depend on handouts? In this state-since the repooplican takeover of state govt.-all wise management of natural resources, including deer, has been tossed into the fire (where they are also busy burning the books!) and what a surprise....as all efforts to halt chronic wasting disease-a serious disease of deer which apparently started out west but which traveled to Wisconsin via these ridiculous "deer farms", where many deer are together in crowded conditions, eating together, etc. have been halted, what a surprise! Now, following last fall's deer gun season, which is big business in a place like this, it is turning out that CWD is showing up all over the state, in something like 10% of animals tested. Good going guys! Bury your heads in the sand...maybe all problems will just go away! I'm thinking my venison-eating days may be over. Spongy brain disease, anyone?

I have a Cricut and I've used it a lot the past 6 or 7 months. I think I've used three mats and I'm still using them. I used the one that came with it then bought a package of two at Wal Mart. I didn't throw the first one away and I'm glad because I read somewhere you can wash them with soap and water and you will get some of the tackiness back. It works pretty good; not as good as when it was brand new, but good. All three of my dogs go in the craft room with me when I go and I usually end up with dog hair on the mat even when I keep it covered. I don't know how that happens.

Michael's has the Cricut Cartridges on sale this week for $39.99 each thru Saturday.

What cartridge or cartridges did you get with yous, if any?

I ordered my Cricut the first of December altho it didn't come in til after Christmas. I love-love-love that thing! I'm on mat #2, I cleaned up the first one with soap & water and that did restore some of the tackiness. Also, after cleaning it you're supposed to be able to take a zig-zag glue pen and rub it over the mat to get it back to "new" tackiness. I haven't done that yet, I'm afraid it'll be "too" sticky.

Ohhhh, I went to HSN website and saw your cartridges ... Holy Moley! You get FIVE of them!!

Plantin Schoolbook is a good Font cartridge, that's what came with my machine. But! You also get Walk in My Garden. That's one of the first ones I ordered after my machine came in. It's so much fun! Of your three Solutions cartridges, I only have Home Accents and that's new for me so I haven't used it yet. Indie Art and Camp Out look pretty fun, tho! It sure seems you have a really nice selection to start playing with! I also recommend Wild Card, if you want to take advantage of the sale at Michael's that mscippy mentioned ... that cartridge does so much you just can't imagine.

I haven't gotten any colors for mine, so I don't know how they work at all.

Let's see ... Joann's has paper on sale right now, some of it's on clearance at 16-cents a sheet so you might need to stop by there this week!

I'm including a link to the Cricut website ... I love the Cricut Cards messageboard, because that's what I focus on. But if you're into scrapbooking, you'll want to go to that one first.

I'm excited for you! I remember how I could hardly wait for my machine to come in.

Stoney, I've never seen the Wild Card cartridge.. A couple of months ago I looked around trying to find the potpourri basket (or something like that) that came as part of a package deal. I couldn't find one for sale anywhere. I don't remember seeing Wild Card either. I'm going to have to go looking. I bought Cursive 101 today.
I also have Storybook. With your young grand kids that will be an excellent one.

I also have Beyond Birthdays, Home Accents, Walk in My Garden, Plantin School, Christmas Noel and Disney.
I haven't used the Disney cartridge yet, but I have some Disney pictures to scrap, so when I get ready I'll have it.

I use Plantin School more than any and after that I use Storybook. I have a feeling the Cursive will get a lot of use too.

Potpourri Basket is a special two-cartridge set, that comes with two DVDs, I've heard it's like a 'greatest hits' CD in that it takes the best items from a variety of cartridges and puts them all in one spot. It came with Expressions bought via a TV infomercial. I've been trying to get one on eBay but I haven't found a set cheap enough for me yet ... they always go for over $100. But, I keep hoping that I'll get one some day.

Wild Card makes different shaped cards with accompanying envelopes! Some are just normal, but of course you can make the sizes you want. Then there are shaped ones ... I made one that the card back was square, and the front was a flower-power kinda flower shape ... then the envelope was square and the top flap (that you would normally lick to seal the envelope) was a matching flower shape, and the bottom flap was cut like grass! Then, it's got special shapes and an alphabet too that aren't on the overlay (but are shown in the book) and you use the special function buttons to get to them. It's a very powerful cartridge.

I've got Paper Pups, and StoneScript, along with the Home Accents, Plantin Schoolbook, Walk in my Garden and Wild Card. What all is included in Beyond Birthdays? And, is Christmas Noel a good all-around holiday cartridge? I want to get a Christmas one sometime this summer so I'll be ready for next year.

G2Three ~ That sounds like a fabulous package deal. I'm not familiar with the binding and laminating machine though.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those colored cartridges. I have used them for quite a few page titles. They are a lot faster to work with than the cutting, placing and pasting. I want to get some pastel cartridges too, but just haven't done it.

Stoney ~ Beyond Birthdays has some really neat stuff. It has a lot of phrases such as "thank you", "you did it!","it's a boy", "it's a girl", and some Christmas Holiday greetings. It also has "love" written in cursive, "get well", and other words to make cards and invitations. It's great.

The Christmas Noel cartridge has snow flakes, wreaths, a beautiful swirley tree and Santa with his reindeer. Of course it has a lot of other stuff too, but those are things I've used. That Santa with the reindeer amazes me at the detail it has that shows up even on the tiniest cut. It also has Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings and a couple of other phrases on it. It's a good one to buy.

Oh I can see this is going to get me into trouble! LOL...I'm making a running list of cartridges for Mother's day, my birthday and Christmas! On the other hand this will make shopping for me easier for the boys! They are always complaining that they end up getting uselss gifts for me because I run out and get what I want before I let anyone know. Well no more boys! Not at these prices LOL....

Nuther ?....what's the difference between the solution cartridges and the full content ones?

The full cartridge set has a book which shows you how to do things with that cartridge, and pictures of the different images available. The solution cartridges are just the cartridge and overlay, and no book.

They also have a computer software, Design Studio ... I don't have it ... that allows you to take images from different cartridges and on the screen, put them together into whatever setup you want ... like taking a flower and grass images from Walk in my Garden, and a little dog from Paper Pups, and a cloud and maybe a bird from another cartridge, and making a scene all together. Also with Design Studio, is the ability to 'weld.' On some cartridges you will find words that are created with 'one cut.' Meaning, once it's cut out, the word is in one piece. But normally you cut out individual letters and then you place them on your scene one at a time. To 'weld' means you key in the letters you want, say the name of your Grandbaby, and when it's cut out all the letters are 'welded' together and it's one piece of paper when you're done. Is that clear as mud? I've been really tempted to get this too, but haven't yet. But, like you said ... it's on the list! LOL!

I have a confession to make. I have had the Design Studio for a few months and haven't opened it. Starting last August or September I decided to make scrapbooks for Christmas for my mother, my dh and even one for his ex. I got those completed, but I was working like a mad scientist in a lab. After Christmas I started working on one to give my dd for her February birthday. I got that one completed then I started making some for one of my brothers and my sister. I mailed my brother's to him a little over a week ago. I have a few pages to go before I am finished with my sister's. After that there will be a few pages remaining to add to all the books, but mostly I will be working on my own. I decided to wait til I was working on mine before trying to use the Design Studio. I was afraid it would be complicated and I wanted to get those others finished in as short a time frame as possible. I'm almost there and I'm looking forward to playing with DS. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the info...I get it! I think I'd like the welded peices better and love to have the option! Mine is out for delivery with UPS today...that was so fast. They just shipped it yesterday, must be close by! I can't wait until all the kids go home now! :O)
Hmmmm...wonder what DH will fix himself for dinner tonight??? LOL....I'll be lost in my new toy!

Oh, Linda. I don't think I could have waited if I were you! LOL!

But I do understand you wanting to be done with the 'backlog' so to speak, before you start playing. since I just do cards, I don't have that to deal with.

And G23 ... hubby may need to be the chief chef for a few nights while you play! LOL!

I told my husband this is the equivalent of a bandsaw for him ... it's a tool and must be treated with respect. And any time spent using it must be respected. He got a kick out of that.
