Who here has the Cricut or My story book binder?

I just bought both of these on HSN, it was a bundle package. My question is on the book binder where do you buy your binders. I only see black and brown offered on there. I want prettier colors! And on the cricut my ? is how often do you find that you have to change to a new cutting mat? I used to have the Xyron cutting system and it seemed to go through the mats quite often, I'm hopiong these will last longer. I don't have it yet...should be getting it next week. I can't wait to play with it...my scrapbooking is sooo far behind and with a new one coming I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed....I think this will help motivate me and speed things up too!

I have looked at the Your Story binding system and it looks neat...I can't tell you anything about it, but would love to hear about it from you!

I have a Zutter Bind-It-All. I have used it quite a bit.

Frank, I agree with Josh... you do have a right to be disappointed if what you were shown is not what you received. You did pay good money for the bulb, after all. But looking at it another way, the ending is happier than any of us might have imagined... and a whole group of people get to enjoy the beauty that is Naranja! It also gave us opportunity to talk a little, and to get to know each other better. I found someone who can sympathize with what I go through, and I can sympathize with his situation. I didn't know before this thread that Josh has MS. And before this season, I didn't know what a great person you were, Frank, and what a wonderful sense of humor you have! You always make me smile, and more often than not, laugh... you have a unique way with words! :-) Having nursed my 73 year old Mother through leukemia, I know how difficult it is to care for an ailing parent. I wish you and your Mom the best, Frank. You're at a difficult crossroads in life. My Mother was almost lucky that her cancer was acute... she didn't suffer long. I'll always miss her, but reality is what it is. It was her time, and we were fortunate to spend several very wonderful months together before she got really sick. I'll always treasure those memories. Life has a way of throwing those curve balls at us, and we can either stand tall and take the pain, gaining strength and wisdom from it as it adds to our character... or we can curl up in a little ball and miss out on the beauty and all the little things that are mixed in with misery, pain and hard times. Every day I want to curl up into a little ball and cry... but where would that get me? Nowhere fast. And so, I put on my big girl shoes and face whatever the day has to bring. Some are good, some are great, and some aren't... but that's life. Today, I got to see that my common Red Lion has pushed its first scape past the neck of the bulb, and it won't be much longer until those lovely red blooms start to show themselves! And, I dug out two books that I haven't read yet, so I'm looking forward to sitting down tonight with some hot coffee and my reading glasses... Certain Prey and Chosen Prey, both by John Sanford, await my perusal. Oh, and we had some excitement today as one of our water hydrants burst and started spraying water all over the sidewalk and garage! Another project that was doled out to some local idiot claiming to be a professional... because the owner couldn't wait for my husband to get to it, moving through his long list of projects that need doing. Apparently, the guy didn't set the inner rod correctly, and it broke the outer casting. I don't know... I'm no plumber. My poor husband is out there as I write this, waist deep in a cold, muddy hole... playing with hydrant parts and piping. He's less than thrilled, as you can imagine. But I digress... Frank, you did a great thing bringing that bulb to the home for your Mom and her friends to enjoy... it was almost a blessing in disguise that you weren't happy with the color saturation. So, you see... things always have a way of working out... I call it karma. :-) Do not be a bit sorry you began us on this journey! It's been both fun and a learning experience... and I always enjoy a chance to share a little more, and learn a little more. And, Josh... in life, we have choices... and we can choose to take what we've been given and make it into something good. It all depends on how we look at it. My disease and injuries have given me something I never would have thought... a chance to slow down and truly look at and enjoy the wonderful little things we never notice when we're so busy, and we take life for granted. For example, during growing season, I force myself to rest often... and I see tiny little hummingbirds building a nest, or drinking nectar from the flowers in the garden. I watch praying mantises hunt, and I enjoy the scent that hundreds of different roses make when they're mixed in a garden setting, and a breeze brings it all to my nose. At night, I see bats against the moon as they hunt their prey, and I hear the pair of giant owls talk back and forth in the woods across the road. I'm very lucky. Really very lucky. If I had a different life, I'd never get to see or hear or smell or enjoy any of those things. I'd be too busy rushing through my days, barely noticing what Nature tries so hard to show me. As I get older, I realize how short life truly is... and how little time we actually get to be here, in our lives. I don't want to ever regret my life. I don't want to miss the important things, or the beauty, or the love and friendship being offered all around me. Nobody ever said any of it would be easy... but... it doesn't have to be as hard as we sometimes make it, either. So... take a deep breath... and be glad you were given the opportunities that you have, and the ones that await you. Life is sometimes ugly, and messy, and hard... but it's just as wonderful, and just as lovely and joyful.. as long as we are willing to give a little in order to receive a little, and we take the time to let all the good in. Ok... my fingers are tired, and they hurt. I'm going to go pour that cup of coffee, grab my glasses, and I'm going to bury my mind in a good story. And lest I forget, the pictures offered by Josh are just lovely! Sweet Lilian is one of my personal favorites. And everyone else, like Donna, has brought interesting and wonderful perspectives to this thread. I'm glad to be a part of it. :-) And... I would love to go on a Clivia growing journey with you, Frank... I've got two mixed in with my bulb collection, and they are part of the Amaryllidacea family, if I've got the spelling right. It looks wrong, but you know what I mean, I'm sure. In case anyone is interested, I'm including my 2011 garden photo album... link below. "So it's become a choice between paying someone or not having it done at all." I'm limited physically too (and often mentally - lol!). you might have to find someone and pay them to do some things for you. Ask around with your friends for a young guy (HS or college maybe? at a church?) who needs to make some money. Make a list of priority things that need done and try to squeeze out 30-50.00 for a few hours of work. I hired a few guys to do a some things and got ripped off. That put me off for some time in getting more done. I finally connected with a young man (29) who has done work for my sister over the past 15 yrs. She knows his parents (I've been to their house). Even as a teenager he was huge and strong - and she wanted him to do mostly outside work. A lot of rock moving - her land is very rocky. He still does that for her some Sundays. He comes here on Saturdays for 3-5 hrs. He's done a ton of work around here - putting up shelves (taking some down), fixing cabinets, doors, locks, putting down some flooring, moving things around, caulking windows and doors. He also does 'low and high' things for me like caulking around bottom shelves of cabs, cleaning off high shelves and putting things up there. It keeps me from falling off of a step stool or being stuck on the floor until someone eventually finds me there... He's put up curtain rods, replaced my water pump, laid out and connected hoses for future plantings (that he'll do), cleaned up weeds and 'construction' type litter around here. He's even worked on my car. I'm finding it not as easy recently to lift the hood of my car to check water, put in pwr steering fluid etc. He's done some plumbing and some electrical work too. He's quick to tell me if it's something he can't do rather than say he can and mess it up. He's great on figuring things out (more creative and logical than my old brain these days) and problem solving around here. He's been working most Saturdays since last fall and there's enough work here for him for another year I'm sure. He isn't a speed demon but he is dependable, methodical, careful etc - which is much better. He works a full time job during the week but is saving up to buy some land up north of here by the end of the year. He's happy to have the odd jobs - close to his home, a friendly boss (me) who gives him things (ice cream maker, dishes, scrap metal, old appliances, a vacuum (too heavy for me to even move but they are young and strong and have a 2 story house)). He isn't obligated to be here every single Sat or at a certain time. I always tell him that his family comes first so when a family doings is on Sat he shouldn't be here, he should be with them. Financially I need to limit it to maybe 2 Saturdays a month now. In the summer my electric bill skyrockets and that will take priority for several months. I also need to save up for more flooring. Maybe you can find someone like this that you can trust who would like a few flexible hours to work around another job, school activities or studies.

I can't believe you had to ask! Measuring is my weakness. So I must measure a million times. When 3 out of 4 times it matches, I go with the 3x one. Buy decent material. Have the correct tools: Table saw with dado, nail gun, screw gun, glue, tape measure, pencils with erasers, rubber mallet (just in case) and a book on cabinet making. For the face frames, you need a chop saw, either a Kreg pocket screw jig, a biscuit maker, or plan Shaker butt joint frames. I've quit doing this, though. I buy cabinets at the reuse centers for $5.00 - $25.00 depending upon the center, and still put my doors on them. I stalk the centers for solid, plywood cabinets. Every so often I'll take one made of MDF or particle board, but the latter I'll trade in if I find a better made one. After I used up the (free) materials I had, I found buying materials to be ridiculously expensive. Plus, sheets of plywood are almost impossible for me to manipulate, let alone carry by myself. I also found that buying the cabinets RTA from TheCabinetJoint.com is a little more expensive, but WAY less in frustration and anxiety. I can buy my beloved beaded inset frames for an extremely low surcharge. The last upper cabinet I was able to buy took me less than 15 minutes to assemble. The last base, because it had Blum full extension drawer glides, took me about 45 minutes. It's that level and plumb thing that get me. Keeping in mind I buy mine unfinished maple. I also have purchased some slab drawer fronts because I haven't decided what doors I actually, will finally, want. Making them is fine, but I don't throw myself the dog bone and simper, "I have the satisfaction of having made them myself." Who the heck really needs that in the face of cost, learning curve, and anxiety? If you're teaching yourself, I wouldn't start your first project with your kitchen cabinets. I'd start smaller. If you've got experience, you probably wouldn't be asking this question. I highly recommend contacting Brian at the cabinet joint.com. If you can afford learning on the job? Knock yourself out.

Mariannese's comment is EXACTLY what the concept of my post (well, actually the WashPost blogger's post) is meant to imply. Not a book for someone who has never read a book, by his or her own choice. But a book that has moved you to some great extent -- whether by teaching you a lesson of compassion or love or understanding, or encouraging you to follow a dream, or simply by transporting you to a different world that you would probably never have the opportunity to experience. The kind of book that you know you always want on your bookshelf to reread over and over again -- one that you must own. And for a child, the ownership factor can mean a great deal, esp if that child comes from a poor (financially speaking) family. (The first book, for a child, that I thought of was Dr. Seuess's "Sneetches.")

I have a Cricut and I've used it a lot the past 6 or 7 months. I think I've used three mats and I'm still using them. I used the one that came with it then bought a package of two at Wal Mart. I didn't throw the first one away and I'm glad because I read somewhere you can wash them with soap and water and you will get some of the tackiness back. It works pretty good; not as good as when it was brand new, but good. All three of my dogs go in the craft room with me when I go and I usually end up with dog hair on the mat even when I keep it covered. I don't know how that happens.

Michael's has the Cricut Cartridges on sale this week for $39.99 each thru Saturday.

What cartridge or cartridges did you get with yous, if any?

I ordered my Cricut the first of December altho it didn't come in til after Christmas. I love-love-love that thing! I'm on mat #2, I cleaned up the first one with soap & water and that did restore some of the tackiness. Also, after cleaning it you're supposed to be able to take a zig-zag glue pen and rub it over the mat to get it back to "new" tackiness. I haven't done that yet, I'm afraid it'll be "too" sticky.

Ohhhh, I went to HSN website and saw your cartridges ... Holy Moley! You get FIVE of them!!

Plantin Schoolbook is a good Font cartridge, that's what came with my machine. But! You also get Walk in My Garden. That's one of the first ones I ordered after my machine came in. It's so much fun! Of your three Solutions cartridges, I only have Home Accents and that's new for me so I haven't used it yet. Indie Art and Camp Out look pretty fun, tho! It sure seems you have a really nice selection to start playing with! I also recommend Wild Card, if you want to take advantage of the sale at Michael's that mscippy mentioned ... that cartridge does so much you just can't imagine.

I haven't gotten any colors for mine, so I don't know how they work at all.

Let's see ... Joann's has paper on sale right now, some of it's on clearance at 16-cents a sheet so you might need to stop by there this week!

I'm including a link to the Cricut website ... I love the Cricut Cards messageboard, because that's what I focus on. But if you're into scrapbooking, you'll want to go to that one first.

I'm excited for you! I remember how I could hardly wait for my machine to come in.

Stoney, I've never seen the Wild Card cartridge.. A couple of months ago I looked around trying to find the potpourri basket (or something like that) that came as part of a package deal. I couldn't find one for sale anywhere. I don't remember seeing Wild Card either. I'm going to have to go looking. I bought Cursive 101 today.
I also have Storybook. With your young grand kids that will be an excellent one.

I also have Beyond Birthdays, Home Accents, Walk in My Garden, Plantin School, Christmas Noel and Disney.
I haven't used the Disney cartridge yet, but I have some Disney pictures to scrap, so when I get ready I'll have it.

I use Plantin School more than any and after that I use Storybook. I have a feeling the Cursive will get a lot of use too.

Potpourri Basket is a special two-cartridge set, that comes with two DVDs, I've heard it's like a 'greatest hits' CD in that it takes the best items from a variety of cartridges and puts them all in one spot. It came with Expressions bought via a TV infomercial. I've been trying to get one on eBay but I haven't found a set cheap enough for me yet ... they always go for over $100. But, I keep hoping that I'll get one some day.

Wild Card makes different shaped cards with accompanying envelopes! Some are just normal, but of course you can make the sizes you want. Then there are shaped ones ... I made one that the card back was square, and the front was a flower-power kinda flower shape ... then the envelope was square and the top flap (that you would normally lick to seal the envelope) was a matching flower shape, and the bottom flap was cut like grass! Then, it's got special shapes and an alphabet too that aren't on the overlay (but are shown in the book) and you use the special function buttons to get to them. It's a very powerful cartridge.

I've got Paper Pups, and StoneScript, along with the Home Accents, Plantin Schoolbook, Walk in my Garden and Wild Card. What all is included in Beyond Birthdays? And, is Christmas Noel a good all-around holiday cartridge? I want to get a Christmas one sometime this summer so I'll be ready for next year.

G2Three ~ That sounds like a fabulous package deal. I'm not familiar with the binding and laminating machine though.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those colored cartridges. I have used them for quite a few page titles. They are a lot faster to work with than the cutting, placing and pasting. I want to get some pastel cartridges too, but just haven't done it.

Stoney ~ Beyond Birthdays has some really neat stuff. It has a lot of phrases such as "thank you", "you did it!","it's a boy", "it's a girl", and some Christmas Holiday greetings. It also has "love" written in cursive, "get well", and other words to make cards and invitations. It's great.

The Christmas Noel cartridge has snow flakes, wreaths, a beautiful swirley tree and Santa with his reindeer. Of course it has a lot of other stuff too, but those are things I've used. That Santa with the reindeer amazes me at the detail it has that shows up even on the tiniest cut. It also has Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings and a couple of other phrases on it. It's a good one to buy.

Oh I can see this is going to get me into trouble! LOL...I'm making a running list of cartridges for Mother's day, my birthday and Christmas! On the other hand this will make shopping for me easier for the boys! They are always complaining that they end up getting uselss gifts for me because I run out and get what I want before I let anyone know. Well no more boys! Not at these prices LOL....

The full cartridge set has a book which shows you how to do things with that cartridge, and pictures of the different images available. The solution cartridges are just the cartridge and overlay, and no book.

They also have a computer software, Design Studio ... I don't have it ... that allows you to take images from different cartridges and on the screen, put them together into whatever setup you want ... like taking a flower and grass images from Walk in my Garden, and a little dog from Paper Pups, and a cloud and maybe a bird from another cartridge, and making a scene all together. Also with Design Studio, is the ability to 'weld.' On some cartridges you will find words that are created with 'one cut.' Meaning, once it's cut out, the word is in one piece. But normally you cut out individual letters and then you place them on your scene one at a time. To 'weld' means you key in the letters you want, say the name of your Grandbaby, and when it's cut out all the letters are 'welded' together and it's one piece of paper when you're done. Is that clear as mud? I've been really tempted to get this too, but haven't yet. But, like you said ... it's on the list! LOL!

I have a confession to make. I have had the Design Studio for a few months and haven't opened it. Starting last August or September I decided to make scrapbooks for Christmas for my mother, my dh and even one for his ex. I got those completed, but I was working like a mad scientist in a lab. After Christmas I started working on one to give my dd for her February birthday. I got that one completed then I started making some for one of my brothers and my sister. I mailed my brother's to him a little over a week ago. I have a few pages to go before I am finished with my sister's. After that there will be a few pages remaining to add to all the books, but mostly I will be working on my own. I decided to wait til I was working on mine before trying to use the Design Studio. I was afraid it would be complicated and I wanted to get those others finished in as short a time frame as possible. I'm almost there and I'm looking forward to playing with DS. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the info...I get it! I think I'd like the welded peices better and love to have the option! Mine is out for delivery with UPS today...that was so fast. They just shipped it yesterday, must be close by! I can't wait until all the kids go home now! :O)
Hmmmm...wonder what DH will fix himself for dinner tonight??? LOL....I'll be lost in my new toy!

Oh, Linda. I don't think I could have waited if I were you! LOL!

But I do understand you wanting to be done with the 'backlog' so to speak, before you start playing. since I just do cards, I don't have that to deal with.

And G23 ... hubby may need to be the chief chef for a few nights while you play! LOL!

I told my husband this is the equivalent of a bandsaw for him ... it's a tool and must be treated with respect. And any time spent using it must be respected. He got a kick out of that.
