Which book would you give someone who's never owned a book?

This was an interesting blog entry over at the Washington Post's website. It emerged from a mention of RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) putting together a public-service ad featuring celebrated children's-book characters. For those here who might not have heard of RIF, one of the group's huge activities is getting books into the hands of young people who don't normally have the chance to have a book of their own.

So which book(s) would you give a child, or give an adult? Obviously there are myriad factors -- memories, launchpads -- behind your reasons...

I'm also attaching a link to the Post's website if you'd like to add your comment there, too.
