I think the t.v. stand would look better in brown. All wood colors work together. The brown of the picture frame would work and I'd choose a color from the background of your spring bedding in a fabric like linen. Keep it simple.

Sorry... the brown from which picture frame? (The painting over the bed has a black frame; and it may not be clear but the headboard is also black.)

Sue, can you post photos of the other sides of the rooms? I always do a rough floor plan, and I realize that I am missing a lot. Also, are you planning to leave TV cabinet where it is currently? It seems not convenient for viewing from bed. How do you use the area with the loveseat? (Don't hesitate to say it's all for the dog! I have a cat, and he has dedicated furniture too.)

Also, the TV will go on top of the vitrola cabinet, or in the opening? And it looks like you have a wall radiator that may run behind your loveseat - would it be preferable not to block it?

I like the first two lamps. I really like the 2nd one for it's transitional look. I do not care for the third as I think it will stick out it the room.

What if you painted the cabinet the sage green of the slipcover or a darker shade of that sage. Of course, you could do black to match your bed. The sage would be more interesting. It would coordinate with both of your bedspreads. I personally don't care for the brown idea as it's hard to match wood with paint.

I would continue the window treatment that you choose for your bedroom into the sitting area. I think it will draw the eye into that room and also make it cozier.

i think the 2nd lamp you show is beautiful!!...especially with your spring bedding! (i'm having trouble seeing the blue color in your winter bedding...from the photo with the red being so dominant, doesn't seem to go---i can see why you want to change the wall color with that bedding...)

i also think a dark sage green would look really pretty and less stark than black--but black is pretty typical for a tv stand so that would be nice too! (and would look very nice with your wood furniture and bed...)
the center bottom part might look nice with the screen removed and left open with just the crisscrossed molding!...would have to paint the interior too and use that space for a speaker or decoratively.

gwbr, thanks, but I don't need a floor plan because there really is no other way to arrange this room. The bed has to stay where it is, and the cable is in the corner where the white cabinet is, so that has to stay. It's actually perfect for viewing from MY side of the bed... since that's who will be watching the TV. :) This is my TV for watching chick flicks during baseball season! The TV will go on top of the cabinet.

That area with the loveseat is, yes, all for the dog. Used to be for two dogs, but one sleeps w/ DS now. We walk in there only to get a book from the shelves!

There is blue in that red quilt, but it's subtle. That's why I'm hesitating on the blue glass lamp -- it may not work so well with the red quilt.

Never thought of green for the cabinet. Hmm. Off to ponder.

That's an interesting piece of furniture. My first reaction is black. But I also think you should work with those "x's" somehow. Maybe using a metallic as an accent. Maybe even use the accent color on the beads along either side.
Or, how about a faux tortoise shell in those diamonds, to bring in the browns.
Or, maybe some sort of wood applique on the doors to dress them up a bit? Just thinking out loud. That's a pretty room.

The art above your bed looks lovely, and looks like it could be the inspiration for your color palette.

One thought on the Victrola cabinet would be to paint the same color as the wall, in semi-gloss finish, and maybe pick out some detail in black. Or the reverse (black with detail picked out in wall color).

To create a strong focal point for your room, I would love to see a large circular frame above your bed, with the frame curve nestling into the curve of the headboard. I have seen something like this done with religious art, but you could do something as simple as a circular support (think large-scale embroidery hoop) covered in a fabric that coordinates with your bedding. Or you could wallpaper a circular form (plywood, or other material).

I think your bedding looks great, except perhaps you need a more substantial bedskirt - maybe a tailored, box pleat. Do you have room at foot of bed to add an upholstered bench?

Lamp #2 is great, but I think lamp #1 would take less space on the bedside tables. If I remember correctly from another post, you are aiming for less contemporary for this room, so lamp #3 doesn't seem like a good fit. Actually, I like the wall sconce idea best, but I'm guessing they didn't shed light where you want?

Hm, I am loving the idea of painting the cabinet the wall color in semi-gloss. I thought of it and then tossed the idea aside, but now that I have company, I'm liking it again. I looked at some greens but somehow I wasn't feeling the green cabinet.

I know what you're saying about a round piece over the bed. Will give that some thought. Problem is, I don't think the painting over the bed is going to fit on any of the other walls.

Totally agree about the bedskirt! Funny how you don't notice something until you take a photo. Hadn't thought about the skirt in years, really, then when I saw it in the picture I thought, Ick.

Unfortunately, there isn't room at the foot of the bed for anything.

Finally, even though I love the idea of lamp #2, the blue glass is scaring me a bit. I'm actually going to another Home Goods tomorrow but if I can't find something locally, I will get lamp #1. Even though DH wants a monkey lamp...

I would have mirror cut to put in the bottom of the victrola. Or, if you are a do it yourselfer, maybe get some looking glass paint and spray the back of some plain glass and cut it yourself. I would probably change the knobs, too. Maybe use some pretty cut glass ones. I like the first lamps the best, but that is just me. I'd probably paint the cabinet heirloom white.

I intended to suggest leaving the framework in the bottom section of the cabinet and putting in the mirror/faux mirror. I think it adds personality to the cabinet.

OH yes, definitely keeping the framework. So here I am with a progress report for those who haven't fallen asleep. Today I bought a quart of an Aura paint color whose name I can't remember. It's almost black but not quite. Very dark gray with what seems like a bit of brown too. Works well with the Revere Pewter, I think (which will eventually be my wall color, when the painter comes back). I put one coat on the cabinet today and I really like it. I'll post a pick when I'm done. I also removed the screen, which was quite a project involving many old rusty screws. Will decide what to put in there later.

Also, I went to Home Goods and found a pair of great lamps! They're black wood, with a curly/curvy sort of base kind of like the ones in the link below. Unfortunately they have dorky "Paris" print shades, but for the $35 I paid, I'm happy to invest in new lamp shades! I haven't even brought them in from the car yet, but I think they will work.

Very eager to get the room painted now. Supposed to hear from the painter tomorrow.

Sue; I had that blue lamp in green; it was my favorite lamp until it broke. I was going to replace it & found the blue lamp you posted. If you like the lamp shape/style; do more googling because they have it in different colors. The one thing I worry about is it being too large. It's an awesome lamp in person & the color should be fine for your room.

I purchased another green glass lamp that's similar to the link you just posted above me (broke that one too); I'm pretty sure it was from Walmart. If you have a Walmart & Target; check out their lamps. I purchased a smaller brushed chrome lamp from one of the 2 stores that may be a better size for your room.

As it sounds like you picked a color for your lovely victorola cabinet, I won't make a suggestion there, though your choice sounds perfect. I was also going to suggest adding mirrored panels to the X insert before I even read others suggested it as well. It would add some interest and sparkle to your room. What a find!

Are those glass blue lamps from Target? I saw some like it a few weeks ago. If so, I'd bring them home and try them out with the winter bedding before dismissing them. I was so tempted to purchase them myself and put in my DS's room we just painted in Revere Pewter, but I thought it'd be too fussy/girly for him but would look very nice in your room. You can always work more blue into your winter bedding with 1-2 decorative pillows on the bed--in fact, you may be able to find something that coordinates with both sets of bedding.

I remember your other post about the dressers. I think they look lovely in your room in a very understated way and would work with the other elements you are planning to introduce. If you cannot put anything at the foot of the bed, at some point I'd consider switching to a bed that has a footboard.

Oh, I'd love to have a footboard but DH is 6'5" so that's not happening!

The glass blue lamps were from Uttermost (found online) but in the end, I just wasn't quite feeling that blue glass thing. I am happy with the lamps I found at Home Goods yesterday. Will post a pic later, along with my progress on the cabinet. I found some very pretty paper that I am putting in the screen section, at least for now.

Valinsv; I think the last time I was at Target they had the blue lamps in clear glass. It's where I originally got mine in green. The problem with the lamps are they are pretty fragile.
