Wow...spring fragrances already - how cool is that?? I love it. I am so looking forward to today...with predicted highs in the 70's. I don't have to work today and I plan to spend alot of time outside with my neice, Erika, and Mimi. We are going to do a garden crafty thing - cover old bowling balls with pennies - to make a garden chachka. Also, Erika & I will do some tidy up chores, too. Can't waste the day. I am waiting for some garden fragrance.. that will be another sign of spring. I've got LOTS of things poking up and emerging. The daffs all have their buds out. Flowers will soon follow. Jill, A lot of us are in that 'don't need any more tomatoes, but..." category with you. I have to stop and look at every display of tomato plants I see even though I don't even have room for all the seedlings I'm raising. Scott, FYI....Mountain Princess is an heirloom from the Monagahela National Forest region of West Virginia. It is determinate and produces very, very early. For me it is earlier than Early Girl, Glacier and Sophie's Choice. The fruit are fairly small, about 4 to 6 oz., are red and are fairly 'hard' so they can be transported to Farmer's Markets, etc. fairly well. Mountain Princess did really well for me last year. Mountain Fresh and Mountain Glory came out of NCSU's breeding program and were bred by Dr. Randy Gardner, who recently retired. They're the typical hybrid....they look really nice and have lots of disease resistance, with pretty good flavor and good production. I think Randy has released 22 hybrids from his breeding program over the years and most of them have the word 'Mountain' in the name....Mountain Spring, Mountain Pride, Mountain Glory, Mountain Fresh, etc. Dawn

Yay!!! Wonderful news Connie. Wow, I hadn't thought of eggs freezing. You'd think that the moms would know enough to know when to lay them so that this would not occur. Gosh, I sure would love to see this in action.~~Angie

Glad life is good for Chabby. My old cat would sit next to the woodpile watching for chippies. Deer, squirrels and foxes are here year round. I still love to spot a fox. I saw a red tail hawk at my mom's. Mom has an abandoned swimming pool that is full of frogs. The hawk hangs around on a tree and swoops in for a dinner of frog from time to time. As my son said, he is getting a "two for one" since the frogs are mating and are, well, stuck together! No other signs of spring animals, unless bees and ants count. I am worried that I won't see so many hummers. I had to have an arborvitae taken down and that was where they hung out. I do put up a feeder for them.
