Cute. The squirrels and chipmunks are out in force here, I even have a light red squirrel coming to the feeders. It's the same color as my cat (Hmmm....??!)

I have lots of goldfinches, purple finches, cardinals, blue jays, cowbirds, etc. etc. at the feeders. I'm waiting for the indigo bunting that shows up around Mother's Day every year. The hummers usually show up around the first of May here in central Maryland. I saw an oriole once, many years ago, but apparently they are nearly gone from Baltimore.

We had spring last weekend, and will have it again this weekend, but now it's cold and rainy. The dreary weather is getting to everyone at work.

Squirrels are here year around. And the hummingbirds have been around again for a couple of weeks. Our neighbour has been filling his feeder every day.

It has finally started to warm up around here over the last couple of days.

Glad life is good for Chabby. My old cat would sit next to the woodpile watching for chippies.

Deer, squirrels and foxes are here year round. I still love to spot a fox.

I saw a red tail hawk at my mom's. Mom has an abandoned swimming pool that is full of frogs. The hawk hangs around on a tree and swoops in for a dinner of frog from time to time. As my son said, he is getting a "two for one" since the frogs are mating and are, well, stuck together!

No other signs of spring animals, unless bees and ants count.

I am worried that I won't see so many hummers. I had to have an arborvitae taken down and that was where they hung out. I do put up a feeder for them.

We have had beautiful wonderful weather (except for the rain last weekend) for about 4 weeks. The animals are out and the birds are back to building their nests in my garden pots that are full of flowers. I have to water carefully around the nest.

This is one heck of a year/season for snakes. I've seen about 7 very near the house. I've spread mothballs out like crazy trying to get them to go away from the house!!! I've never seen so many so close to home. Dead one all over the main road (people running over them).

This one is going up trying to get to a birds nest in the top of the brick post by the carport. It took him two days to get to the top and on the second day he fell to the ground and went away. I haven't seen him again.

Snakes are NOT chabby's friends!!

I have a nesting pair of Anna Hummingbirds year round..but a male Rufus comes by and sneaks in a sip at the feeders when he can. He showed up at the very end of March. Mr Anna is quite the defender of his home and two feeders.

Karen, snake that size..I'd move!!! I'm so grateful the only snakes around here come in one kind..Garter!!! LOL

Linda, that is too cute, butt up and digging. Poor Chabby, the torture.

Robins, bluejays, and even some crows are around but the true sign was the 4 racoons cavorting in the garden last week. And since they were climbing on my roof, I called the trapper to "coon nab" them and find thema new home. Two are now re-homed in the woods far away from here.

Karen, we haven't seen a snake here since I was a kid. Too many pesticides are used and they have been killed off. They do keep rodents under control and I miss them.

Chabby is a cutie! I'll bet you could watch her all day.

Karen, That is a very interesting picture. I have a few but fortunately I haven't see one that big.

Peppi, I'm amazed that you have raccoons where you are.

We in the front yard playing with Beau and our resident hawk (not Lou) flew down and scooped up a black snake just 15 feet in front of us. We figured he was pretty focused on his prey not to have been bothered by us.

The toads have been singing in our back yard by the pond for around a month now, but I was treated last weekend to what I'm guessing was spring peepers at our Oklahoma house. I've always read about them, but have never heard them. They were singing tenor while a bull frog was reaching down for the bass notes.

The birds have been twitter-pated around here for quite a while, now. And I've been having to rescue our resident snakes from the cats a few times. We just have the little brown earth snakes here in our Texas yard. Once we move up to Oklahoma, our cats might have to think twice about catching snakes. The electrician found about a 3' - 4' long snake skin in the attic of our OK house. Luckily, it was a rat snake. They can stay there as much as they want, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have the snakes than the rats any day.

The Robins are back this week. Supposed to hit 80 for the first time this year today. Afternoon and only 64 and my bones have yet to feel any change coming... but then my bones like rainy weather. Some worms out. The tree harvesters are busy getting trees out of the field. Probably plant my second row of peas this weekend as I have the whole weekend off. My kitties are just wild today ripping around the house and pouncing each other. Dolly has figured out that bunnies are for chasing. I don't have any hardwoods so no tree climbing rodents. A rat now and then from the horse barns down the road. Lots of woodchucks that seem to enjoy the open areas. Spring is springing.

A snake den at the end of my house. Just little garter snakes and they are welcome to eat all the bugs they want. I take them as a sign of a healthy environment.
