I've missed YA'LL..glad to be back with Bluebirding friends!

Just returned from one glorious week at the beach...annual trip with high school friends...actually, we've been together since elementary school....WAY BACK WHEN!!!! Gotta tell ya, I was in BB forum withdrawal..no one had a lap top! Love my wonderful friends and did manage to incite some BB interest with one friend from Kentucky...but that pretty much wrapped up any BB talk!

After letting dh know how much I missed him, ya da ya da ya da, I saw mama Blue fly out of the box, and then here comes Daddy with his two boys to the mealworm feeder...will check the box tomorrow to see if Mama laid her eggs while I was gone...

Why am I so addicted to these lovely blues and this forum??? Again...hope nesting #2 is successful and hope this past week has been filled with with GOOD BB stories...

Lisa, if you read this, dh did the mealworm thing (not happily) and ran out of mealies today...hope the Sunshine delivery arrives on Tues!

I am sooooo glad to be back with you bluebirders!

Welcome back Donna, you will have to make DH a nice dinner for feeding your Blues! I bet he enjoyed them , but will never admit it! LOL

Donna, let me tell you how to have a beach vacation AND be able to talk about bluebirds....... go with 4 friends you met on THIS forum! LOL! I did, THREE times! My hubby thought I'd lost my ever lovin' mind when I told him I was meeting four women who I only knew from this forum and going to Charleston for a beach trip! Seriously, how dangerous could other bluebird lovers be? We went to Charleston the first year, Savannah the second and Ponte Vedra the third. Hopefully we'll be able to get together again soon.

Glad you had a good trip and welcome back!

Congrats on the degrees. My son just completed a doctorate and I notice that he likes to call attention to his new status, but we still call him Brian. LOL His wife just completed her Masters, but with much less fanfare. We are just as proud of her though because she is the first one in her family to ever go to college, period. My son has a demanding job, and our DIL home-schools her six children, so all things considered, their accomplishments are outstanding. One of our daughters is back in school again and has just finished her first semester of nursing school. I am proud of any of them when they have a desire to make their life better with education. Education doesn't only happen in the classroom though, and the opportunities to learn new things are easier than they ever were before. I think any 'truth' you can learn, adds to the quality of life. Hope you will visit here often as we learn to garden together. In Oklahoma, it's a never ending task, so it's nice to hear from the experts.

Sunday update: My box still just has an empty nest. I wonder if it's a dummy nest????? Only saw the sparrow once today, but the wrens were around once too. Ugh. Wish the bluebirds would nest in my box, but at least both male and female are coming to my yard to eat mealworms. My neighbor's box had one egg in it today! Being that they are out of town, I am monitoring their box. We put up a baffle (metal stovepipe) and made and installed a sparrow spooker today. It is quite the spooker too! We actually bought fringed mylar and stapled it to the dowels after priming and painting them so they will hold up in the weather. We made three spookers, hoping I will need one and made one for another neighbor too. Question: Is there anything we can do to keep the wrens away?

Thank you all. :) I feel like she was sent to us for a reason and we love her so much. She hasn't snapped at me in almost a week. LOL She still doesn't care much for our pug kids but we're making tiny steps in the right direction. I took a chance on her level of trust in me and cut her hair earlier. She done very! well , much to my suprise. Healthwise, she's on a roll in the right direction. Finally putting on some weight (she was 9 whole lbs @ her vet checkup :( ) , her hair is growing back and her owies are healing. I hope on hope there's a special place in hell for the person that treated her so badly and the more I work with her and learn , the more I hope that person goes there. That isn't neccessarily the right way to think but from my experience and in working with her , I've figured out she was absolutly loved , pampered and trained by someone in her former life and then for whatever reason landed in the wrong hands. I took her to a public event and she socially gravitated toward older gentleman and not even knowing them , sat ever so gently next to them at their feet. I really think she was owned by such a gentleman and then he met an unfortunate fate of some type (i.e. nursing home, facility or worse) and whomever was supposed to care for her in a way he hoped, sure failed her miserably. She lets me work with her , love on her and care for her BUT she truly thinks the sun rises and sets on my husband so she certainly puts more trust in men than women. Lucky for her , he loves her as much as she does him or she'd be in trouble (or I would...LOL). Anyways, that's the Honey update. :) Have a safe and happy holiday weekend everyone!!

Thanks Lisa and Janie for the warm welcome back!!

Janie, the next time you vacation with fellow bluebirders, count me in if there's room...in fact, it might be really cool to have a BB convention/get-together with forum members...First, I'd love to put a face with a name, and then be able to talk about our beloved blues without anyone being bored!!!! It's difficult to share stories, talk about baffles, mealworms, fledging, etc., with those who really don't care....most of my dear friends had never heard of mealworms and were pretty grossed out with my explanation...LOL!!!

Donna, there is nothing better than converting a good friend into a bluebird addict! One of my two best friends got the bluebird bug about 3 years ago and it's just great! She lives only a couple of miles from me and when she's out of town, *I* feed her birds their mealies and visa versa! Hard to find a friend like that! LOL! So nice to have a friend that isn't rolling their eyes at you just because you have a tiny little bluebird addiction! :D
