Finally got the biopsy test results.

I just dodged another bullet. The Drs assistant called at 5PM and gave me the biopsy report. I don't have cancer. She is going to send me a copy of the report. It is benign.

Talking to DH this morning about it and we both agreed that it was the constant back of your mind worry since Jan. that was the worse. Every doctor's visit and special test done just made it more real. It felt like you were at a crossroad and couldn't make plans on which way to go. Your life was on hold. We both tried to pretend it wasn't there and get on with things but it touched everything you did or thought about. I know no one knows what the future holds but this was like having something constantly hanging over your head. I am so glad that weight has been lifted.

You're pH of 7.6 really isn't too bad for most vegetables but a downward adjustment would increase nutrient availability and, most likely, yield. I would add sulfur prior to the next cropping cycle. I would do about 15 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. tilled to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. That will adjust your pH downward over time and it will happen pretty dang slowly. Remember that lime buffers against that change and since you have a lot of it, you're soil is strongly buffered. Clay is another thing that will buffer against pH changes and if you have a clay soil, that will also work against your downward pH adjustment. Another test next year to see where you're at would be in order. For nitrogen, as mentioned above, blood meal would be a good choice. 10 to 15 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. tilled to the same depth should be about right for new plants. If you're looking for one material that that will provide nitrogen while acidifying, blood meal will do virtually nothing, particularly considering your buffering capacity. You would have to move to synthetics to do what you have in mind. Two options would be ammonium sulfate (21-0-0) and sulfur coated urea, which is usually around (40-0-0). Ammonium sulfate = fast release, sulfur coated urea = slow release. Good rates would be 7 lbs. and 5 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft., respectively. Both of those would also give your sulfur level a little boost as well. But be aware that the pH change would rely on regular re-application of those acidifying fertilizers over a very loooooong time (again, buffer). The sulfur really would be a better route for you. On a side note, as your instincts have already told you, BER is not always due to low calcium in the soil. Un-even watering (too wet, followed by too dry, repeat) is usually what leads to the problem. Yes, it's a calcium deficiency in the tissue but variances in water availability to the plant plays a major role in the uptake of that nutrient.

The good part is that you had your soil tested and now you know what needs to be done to get your PH correct. The bad part is that it usually takes 4 to 6 months for the lime to make a difference. Seeding now may not be a good idea since your PH will still be too low until the lime raises the PH. You will get a lot of opinions on how to proceed. What kind of grass are you planning on growing? This will help determine how to proceed. If you have some type of weeds or grass on your yard now, you may want to wait til next year or this winter to proceed to allow the lime to kick in. By this I mean that since you have something growing now it would keep the soil from eroding while you wait for the lime to start raising the PH before you do anything further.

Thank you for an informative post and all I can say is "wow" you did some testing! Most people tend to ignore heat buildup but it's something that does need to be considered. I don't want to get into any of the LCD/Plasma debate, but over a wood burning fireplace, Plasma will tend to attract more smoke and dust to the screen due to the operating voltage level of the display itself - similar to a CRT. So it may be necessary to clean it more often. Also, if it uses a cooling fan and filter inside the rear of the cabinet, that may require occasional cleaning of the air inlet filter. Sorry, already have 10 testers lined up, some people from across the country, a couple are my wholesale customers.....I usually just pick my scents by what I like, & by "instinct", but this time I decided to to some scent testing, just to see how close, or far off I REALLY am......then again, I may NOT want to know. I also thought it would be a good idea to let the wholesale folks preview upcoming things........ Depending on how this goes, I may just go back to the old way (me). It's been a borderline pain....I spent the weekend making tons of Â½ size bars of soap, wrapping & labeling, now packing & getting ready to ship. I just hope these people get back to me with the results.....I've had to chase the soap base testers down, with the exception of Jill...she was the ONLY one who gave me detailed, scent by scent info, which I GREATLY appreciated! Anyway, off to pack the soap, & the ebay auctions....... Hazel

Oh Clare - this is wonderful news. I am just sorry that it took months to figure it all out, and that you were so worried for all that time. I remember when I had a small breast mass and it was three weeks from discovery to the final verdict of benign. That can be a terrible period.

What a burden has been lifted! Do celebrate this weekend!

That's just the best news. I'm waiting on my results from my mammogram I had Tuesday. The technician said if they needed more testing they'd call in a couple of days. But it must be okay, as it's been 4 days now, and no call. I'll probably get the card saying all was normal soon.
