Do you think your husband would be interested in a fabric couch trimmed in dark leather? That way both of you will be happy and it will add another texture to the room. I found this one below on Google. There are lots of them out there.

I have a somewhat similar situation. My DH has allergies and the dr. said years ago that leather furniture would be better for him than upholstered furniture. I really prefer the warmth of a cozy fabric, but what could I do? So our two main sofas in our house are leather. In our family room we have a dark red leather sofa and a striped, upholstered chair. (I get to have *some* fabric upholstery!) In the living room we also have a big chocolate-brown leather sofa, two upholstered chairs (both in cozy chenille/velvet fabrics) and a leather chair in a crazy lime green! I just couldn't put another dark brown leather thing in that room (our woodwork is also dark) so I bought this crazy chair from a salvage-type store thinking, well, it would be okay for a couple of years. Turns out it's everyone's favorite chair! So we have had it for many years now. I would agree with any of the advice you've gotten so far -- get a light color leather, or perhaps upholstery trimmed in leather. I have also seen sofas with a leather back/sides but with upholstered cushions, which could be a nice compromise.

carolyn53562, we have all leather (black) furniture in our LR. Sofa, love seat, glider rocker w/ottoman. Wood floors...off white walls. Our daughter grew up quite well adjusted. If you get the brown sofa you can add color with pillows and other assessories in the room.

I have to say that although Magnaverde's pal and his wife's children had issues,decidedly, had NOTHING at all to do with furnishings. Other than that one statement her advice is very good.

Wow-thanks for all of the advice! My husband wants leather for durability and, I think, just because he is a male. Threedgrad, I really like your sofa. Magneverdeyou are so right, the two chairs should not be the boss of the décor. But I have a hard time seeing past them. I like your idea of a celadon colorI had never thought of a light green leather. There is green in the room that will staygreen tile around the fire place and sage cushions on the widow seat on either side of the fireplace. Also, the tile in the foyer is green and can be seen from the living room and the kitchen is painted a sage green and can be seen from the living room. I also like the idea of a tan couch. The link will take you to some old pictures of the houseright after we moved in. Its a two story room and a lot of things have changed, but you can get an idea of the space. We want to replace the couch and chair because they just aren't comfortable. Thanks again for all of your help!

My mother in law had a beautiful buttery leather chair when she died and I loved it..it was a cream color..not the color of the sofa pictured above but much lighter..it would go well with chocolate brown if you were going to have those colors in your home..

i love ours which is a very dark brown with just a slight hint of wine in the undertones..but that wouldn't necessarily go with your chocolate

Be careful with pale leathers as they pick up dye transfers very easily, somehow especially from new jeans! Can't tell you how many secondhand pale-leather couches I've seen with a blue tinge to areas on the seats and backs.

I'm with Magnaverde on a saddle tan leather. Darker than Eileen's, pictured above - think more like caramels. Both will then mix well with a rich deep-cream color for "base notes" to which you can add accent colors as you like. I wouldn't get matching pieces, though, in either color or style. IMO with all the green you have already a big green couch and chair will be green overkill, although if you want to go in that direction I'd lean more toward a somewhat darker (midtone) green to balance out all the sage, although I always imagine green leather as "dinosaur hide". ;-) Are you getting more Ekornes furniture?

I like mixing leather colors and agree that it looks more interesting to use complementary colors instead of a matching suite. I have a caramel colored leather sofa and a deeper brown leather armchair in my living room. Will try to post pix later if that would help.

Ekornes has some beautiful green leather shades that could look wonderful with your chocolate chairs. If you haven't already, check out their website and play around with the leather & wood color selectors. I think you may find something you like. I wish they had some more traditional styles that we could use in our current home, because I was happy with their quality and love their colors.

We bought some very pale Ekornes leather furniture which has since gone to our daughter's home. She's only had one problem with dye transfer from someone's new dark wash jeans, and it came off with a couple of leather cleaning wipes.

I mixed leather colors in my livingroom. Chocolate sofa and loveseat with a carmel leather chair.

After taking a hard look at my living room last night, I also agree that we have more than enough green in the room already and that a green sofa would not work. Robin dc I'd love to see your pictures as caramel, camel and tan are probably the best choices. My problem is that my accent colors are green and a dark orangy red and I think blue and red are better accent colors for chocolate brown, like in Linda brk's picture. Yes, I am thinking of getting more Ekornes. I think I have finally learned my lesson--the color and style of my two Ekornes chairs was dictated by a 400 lb gorilla couch at our old house and if I get more chocolate brown I will just keep going in a direction I did not like in the first place. My problem is that I don't think that chocolate brown goes very well with sagey greens, but I really can't change the green and the stressless chairs are too nice to not use and then I don't have enough decorating sense to imagine how it could all be pulled together! And...I just purchased an Ekornes recliner today! It's black with light maple wood. I love it! I have an oversized, rich brown, distressed leather couch with bun feet (think Ponderosa!) What a contrast this will be. But..I'll be comfy in my new chair!
