Measure both the interior & exterior sizes and compare the interior size to the sinks exterior size. Your sink basin(s) will need to fit within the sink base's interior. The rim will sit on the cabinet walls. When I was shopping for a sink, my KD told me the sink should be no wider than the cabinet (exterior) width - 1/2" We also have a Ticor sink. It's the S405D. It's exterior width is 35-1/8" and we have it in a 36" sink base. Think about where your faucet and other fittings will be (soap/soap dispenser, airswitch, instant hot water and/or cold filtered water). Be sure you have enough room behind the sink you pick for everything you're planning on. (Note that faucets can be single-hole, 2-hole, or 3-hole) Be sure you can turn your faucet on & off when it's installed...the handle should have room to move freely to both turn it on/off and to adjust the temperature. The faucet style is really dependent on your kitchen style...modern, transitional, vintage, traditional, etc. In our case, our kitchen is Transitional w/leanings toward traditional and the Kohler Vinnata I picked goes very well. If you like modern, check out the Kohler Simplice. I seem to recall quite a few people here have it and really like it. I found the best price for my faucet at FaucetDirect.com. We have the Allegro E and its long reach was one of the factors. Another way to reduce the functional reach to water (which you also use just for handwashing if you don't also have a prep sink in the kitchen) is to make the front lip before the sink starts as small as possible (this assumes a faucet mounted behind the sink): Stick drawing is poor, in real life you belly up to the sink/counter edge, so the actual stretch to water starts at either the countertop edge or apron front, depending on sink type. I agree with Madeline616 that even an inch can make a big ergonomic difference and some front lips can be as much as 5 inches -- if you have an overmount or undermount sink (rather than a front apron) then you also need to count the countertop cabinet overhang distance. But you can see that if one is putting the faucet behind the sink and if you need a specific usable sink distance front to back, that every extra inch of front lip makes the stretch to water that much more. This is one of the reasons we went with custom sink, since the only other sinks that met our needs at the time had wide front lips. Our sink is an apron front with a front lip of 1.5 inches, a usable interior of 16.5 inches and overall front to back distance of 19 inches. Even with the Allegro E faucet which has a faucet reach of 11", measuring to center of water, I'd love the water to be another inch closer to me so as to do even less leaning to reach water. If it fits your kitchen design and budget, the articulated Kohler Karbon faucet is a real winner for ergonomics, since it can adjust out to 13"!

Often single-hole faucets will come with an escutcheon (a cover plate or a deck plate) that's intended to cover the extra holes in a three-hole sink. If you do get a single-handle faucet, get one with the handle on the right if you're a righty; I put mine on the left and discovered that's wrong. Because I *hold* whatever it in my LEFT hand, and use my right to scrub, squeeze, get the soap, turn on the water, etc. I will say I like the single-handle, because you can adjust the temperature while one hand is busy, and because you can easily memorize which position is "lukewarm." You can get "warmish" with a single hand motion (this was important to us bcs our apt bldg's hot water is REALLY hot, and it would be hard to figure out where was the comfortable temperature. Too bad they don't make the Kohler Avatar anymore (especially the Avatar Pro!). it would be perfect for you. I have the regular Kohler Avatar, and I'm thinking that if I ever sell my home, and I'm going to write into the contract that it comes with me. Though this one is a pretty good approximation! So there's a lot more clearance -under- the faucet. So as you're picking, focus on the distance between the lowest part of the faucet, and the top of the countertop. You might look into a pullDOWN faucet, but those are often very tall, and then there might be a clearance issue when they come back down. One other note: Don't cheap out. you will use that faucet so much, and if you can at all swing it, go for higher quality even if it's a little more money.
