Sink & Faucet Help --- measuring for a sink & faucet recom.

We are installing granite counter tops---Uba Tuba I believe is the color---it is a black/green/gold granite. I am pretty sure I am going to go with a Ticor sink but I am trying to figure out how to determine which one will fit best....and then of course I am trying to figure out a good faucet. Here are some questions...

1. How do I measure my cabinet to determine its size. Do I measure the interior space or the exterior or what? I know my cabinet is between 35 and 33 inches (I think! ;-)).

2. How do I figure out if a sink will fit? IE what kind of space allowances do I need to leave?

3. Anything else I should know or think about when choosing a sink?

4. What faucets do you recommend? I know I want the pull out style but that is all I know for sure. What ones look good with Ticor? What brands are good? Where are good places to get good deals on faucets?

1. Measure both the interior & exterior sizes and compare the interior size to the sinks exterior size. Your sink basin(s) will need to fit within the sink base's interior. The rim will sit on the cabinet walls.
2. When I was shopping for a sink, my KD told me the sink should be no wider than the cabinet (exterior) width - 1/2"
  
  We also have a Ticor sink. It's the S405D. It's exterior width is 35-1/8" and we have it in a 36" sink base.
1. Think about where your faucet and other fittings will be (soap/soap dispenser, airswitch, instant hot water and/or cold filtered water). Be sure you have enough room behind the sink you pick for everything you're planning on. (Note that faucets can be single-hole, 2-hole, or 3-hole)
  
  Be sure you can turn your faucet on & off when it's installed...the handle should have room to move freely to both turn it on/off and to adjust the temperature.
1. The faucet style is really dependent on your kitchen style...modern, transitional, vintage, traditional, etc.
  
  In our case, our kitchen is Transitional w/leanings toward traditional and the Kohler Vinnata I picked goes very well.
  
  If you like modern, check out the Kohler Simplice. I seem to recall quite a few people here have it and really like it.
  
  I found the best price for my faucet at FaucetDirect.com. Ditto for the DuoStrainers & GD flange.

In my last msg second one is Pfister, and last two are Kraus. I usually look on faucet.com because they have a wide selection. I was playing off the square part of your faucet with that second choice, but I see what you mean about round stems. How about... This one is fun and unusual with curves and square... Curves: There are so many fun ones. Not much help am I? My honest opinion is the second one of the two you selected looks like a built in soap dispenser. Thus not my fav. There are too many other possibilities that won't encourage someone to push down on the top hoping for soap! ;) Good luck.

Have both regular faucet and separate filter faucet at bar sink?

Why do you need both filtered and unfiltered water? That's complicating your decision needlessly. ALso, with only 36" of counter space and a under counter refrigerator, that only leaves a 12" cabinet for a bar sink. That's NOT doable. Even a tiny 12" bar sink needs a 15" cabinet. And a 12" bar sink IS tiny. Take a look at the actual interior measurements for one before you lock yourself into something completely unworkable.

Oh, forgot to tell you...yes, I do like it. It's easy to use and when I'm filling a pot I leave the pot on the counter and just pull out the faucet head and hang it on the pot edge. I then let it fill...hands free! This is especially handy when I'm filling the 5-gallon bucket for the fish tank. Once that bucket is full, it's too heavy (for me) to lift it out of a sink and then over. It's so much easier to put the bucket on the counter, fill it, and then just ease it off the counter. I have a confession to make, I think I actually like the pull out functionality better than the pull down...I know, it flies in the face of the trend and opinions of most people here... Don't get me wrong, I really like my Vinnata and it works great for the Cleanup Sink; but for prepping, I find the pull out more useful and easier to use. I'm glad I have one of each...I have all the pros of each and those pros counteract the negatives of the other.

Don‘t quote me on this, but I think that when Errant_gw said you would need to use the IKEA drain, it was because the Kohler drain must not be compatible with the sink (European vs US). If that is the case, then no, you won’t be able to use the faucet lever. The IKEA drain must be a pop-up drain - you push it down to seal and push down again to release. Does that make sense? For more replies, you might wish to start a new post rather than posting under this old one.
