length of faucet reach
Comments (0)This is a bathroom sink with the faucet on the far corner that I'm about to order on-line (sorry don't know how to add a link/photo). The faucet they show, which is too expensive, is 8" tall and has a 8" spout reach and if you look at the photo it doesn't seem to reach very far into the sink. The specs don't list the distance. I've been looking to find another faucet (cheaper) and they all have shorter reaches. I'm concerned about the spout barely making it to the sink. What do you think? Comments (7)Hmmmm... it's so hard to say how we'll use the sink other than for coffee. Here's the layout, the prep sink is the oval at the bottom, in the pantry/desk nook: In order to have enough room to pull out and use the coffeemaker, the sink is going to be only about 12 x 15. I suppose it could be up to 15" wide, maybe 15 x 18?? Do you think that would be a vastly more useable size? I just don't know (never having had a sink that size) whether it's going to be useful for rinsing off garden vegs, cleaning the chicken waterer, etc. It's so hard to know how it will be used eventually. DH wanted to be able to make coffee, and hang out while its being made, by that window with it's sunrises, hence the coffee station being there. The MW (which we don't use much) will also be in that area....See MoreSpray faucets. What do you have and why do you love (or hate) it?
Comments (40)I've had my Kohler Clairette for at least 10 years (kept it when I renovated my kitchen because I liked it so well) and I've never had a problem with functionality or finish. The spray stays on until I switch it to stream (and vice versa) with a little toggle button. It would bug me to have to hold a button to keep the spray on, or if it reset when I turn off the water. I don't have a problem with it not going back in place. However, if you pull down the sprayer/head and just leave it, it will dangle; it doesn't retract on its own. But the magnet is strong enough to hold it in place once the head is back near the starting point. (My BF leaves it dangling sometimes just to annoy me.) <<(after I wrote that I realized that sounds kinda dirty, but I'm talking about the faucet!) FWIW I got mine from Kohler. I've read that the big box stores might sell the same brands but lesser quality - not sure how that works but just saying. ETA: do you have a Pirch, Kohlers showroom, or similar store near you that has faucets hooked up to water sources? That might help make a decision. My mom bought a Grohe years ago that she replaced after just a couple months because the sprayer didn't stay on without holding the button. Had she been able to test it she would have known and never purchased it. It was a $500+ faucet that the store wouldn't let her return....See MoreNeed help with faucet reach
Comments (9)My background is in kitchen design and I studied ergonomics for years. I have found two important facts about sink location and faucet reach. 1. The sink should be as close to you as possible. If the sink is an under mount, your counter fabricator should be able to tell you how close the sink can be to the front without jeopardizing material strength. The magic "perfect" reach for a faucet varies on human anatomy. Those folks who happen to be between 5'5" and 5'9" don't require as much of a faucet reach as someone taller or shorter. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if the water drops straight into the drain. It is more important that the water drops where it is convenient for you to work at the sink without leaning on the sink or the countertop. If you have to lean against the counter or sink when you are washing your hands or washing pots and pans, your faucet does not have a long enough reach! You can gauge how long your faucet should be by standing at your sink, and reach outwards as if you were washing your hands. You should be standing straight up without reaching out so far that it is uncomfortable. Measure that location. Find a faucet with a reach that is as close as possible to that dimension....See Moreangie_diy
