Suggestions needed to fix bathroom sink

I came home from work last night to find my bathroom sink broken. Someone pushed the stopper far down into the sink and now I can't get it up. Alex reattached the thing under the sink because it was off but it still won't come up. I tried using a butter knife to pry it up but it didn't work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Get a pipe wrench and take the pipe off the bottom of the sink.

Under the sink, there's a lever type thing that goes between the stopper and the "button" you push to stop the sink. Try smacking that lever on the bottom with a hammer. Swing up with the hammer to try to dislodge the stopper. KWIM?

You could also try a plunger. You might be able to get enough suction to force the stopper up.

No experience with Danze, I read these forums and along with 28 others daily. Im retired and disabled and enjoy reading, learning and helping folks on the DIY type forums. Thus I have read the same thing as you regarding Danze and this is why I tempered my comments with the "you get what you pay for" adage. But in the end Danze has appeared to be very successful in the American market by offering that high style at a reasonable price and that doesnt happen if their products are all bad. My experience level on faucets is now with Grohe both kitchen and bath and I feel that they are well worth the extra dollars if you indeed intend to stay in your home for a long time. From your original posting you felt that the Geneva sink faucets were $500+ and just by surfing around some of rhe internet sites I found them for at least $100 less. So maybe the best bet is to stick to your original choice but shop for the best deal. Its a very competitive marketplace out there. Good luck and enjoy your new home Terry

Bathroom sinks/vanity are IN bedroom, not bathroom- HUH?

My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

It is not ideal because the tub is partially hidden by the vanity but the toilet is concealed and the shower has a better shape. I would have a deck around the jaccuzzi and probably make it 5'6" long with a 2'0" cabinet. If you make the shower 3'9", you could make the deck 3" wider.

Just going by the photos, I think it looks too small, yes. Reminds me of a prep sink in a kitchen … and a bulky mirror and big faucet will only make it look even smaller and more out of proportion. But — photos are hard to go by. Might look fine in person. Talk to the pros you’ve hired, get their input on it.

If you remove the trap in the pipe you should have a straight shot to the stopper. Use a wire coat hanger (straightened) to push the stopper out. You may have to fold the wire in half and give it a few twists. Actually you can use anything you may have that will fit up the pipe as long as it clears the lever which makes the stopper go up and down.

Be sure to turn the water off underneath the sink before you remove the trap.

I didn't think about a plunger! Thanks for the suggestions. I have a feeling it was Alex who did this although, neither one is admitting to it. He did jump up and attempt to help so I think he's the one that did it. He can fix it too when he gets home if the plunger doesn't work.
