Crown Point cabs almost in!

My contractor is not a big fan of their adjustable-feet system, but it is going pretty smoothly considering how much my floor sags (very old farmhouse) and what a mess the wall is (contractor made it more plumb than it was, but he could not fix it due to issues beyond his control).

They look fabulous so far-- I need to upload the pictures and post them. We are really, really happy. Appliances arrived today too. Outside of a damaged refrigerator (the door looked like it was caved in), the order went really smoothly--- we ordered everything through EuroStoves in Mass. Trevor Lawson, the proprietor, has been great to deal with so far (and we saved on delivery & sales tax).

Was hoping for pics! I live vicariously through those of you who are able to have Crown Point cabinets...They always look SO nice. Can't wait to see.

Oh thanks everyone for your valuable input. I thought this kitchen reno might have actually driven me mad and my "vision" may actually just be a deranged delusion! It feels good to know that others are in my corner with the black cabinet thing :) Let me give you a few details about my house. It's an 1870 queen anne victorian style house. The previous owners lived here for over 50yrs and they were elderly, so you can imagine how much work it needs. We are slowly pecking away at it but.. ya touch one thing and two more things go wrong! We are actually putting on an entire addition that will include my new kitchen, a large walk in pantry, a second bath (YIPPIE) and the new entrance to the house with a foyer. We will get direct sunlight in the kitchen from about noon on, so I think it can handle the dark cabs. The milk paint finish is a flat, chalky black color. I am not sure of the finish though. Can ya pick that? I did not realize this. Positano.. I love the link, that's close to my vision!~ Antiquesliver..Thanks for the great link. Every picture I see helps with my decision. September.. Tina, I think if you search my name lesmis you'll find other pictures of my kitchen. I am working on putting together an album on Photobucket of the "before" and "after" but have been too busy finishing up the rest of the house remodel to get to it. You can send me an email at swlesmis@hotmail.com if you need other pics, I can send them to you if you need something in particular. I think people are afraid to email someone directly...not sure why, but I won't send out ANY chain mail, not funny, sad/guilt provoking, political or any other chain mail...I personally HATE it, so I promise all I'll send is what you ask for! :) I do have exposed hinges and they are non-mortised, my cabinet guy insisted on those too because they are much easier to install I think. I hunted high and low for simple hinges and either couldn't find them or they were outrageously expensive. I ended up using Amerock ones that my cabinetmaker suggested, they are actually their antique finish and not the ORB because the ORB didn't match my darker ORB knobs as well. I think you are right, the Blum or hidden hinges don't require any sort of magnet. My cabinetmaker made sure that I would like the little tug you need to open the exposed hinge doors with the magnets, and it's fine, even with glass in the cabinets it's no big deal, but it might be to some people I guess. Sayde, This project was 90% painted cabinets. It was a combination of beadboard and raised panel doors. The trim throughout the kitchen and bathroom was painted to match the cabinets; like someone said above their paint choices are limited unless you will pay for a steep upgrade to custom paint matching. When beadboard is sprayed, the bottoms of the indents look a little dry. The paint couldn't be done better. I'm sure. The difficulty arose in the matching paint. The formula they provided to match, well, it didn't. So, where the cabinets are built-in with site-made trim, there was a disparity or mismatch in the color. Oh, well. Not their fault. If it were my choice, I would have had everything sprayed on-site, including the trim, so the colors would match. This was a unique job, with a semi-unfitted look and the level of care in matching the house's original trim showed a lot of dedication from the homeowners. We had seven moldings duplicated that were original to the house. I was disappointed in the color match more than the owners were. The one stack of cabinets that was stained, I really did not care for the color or the thinness of the varnish/clearcoat. The color is my hangup, but the varnish being so very thin-looking makes me wonder if they missed a step or something. The hinges that were used have their limitations. The thing about Crown Point is that they've been a company that has done its best to make sure the customer was completely satisfied all the way along, even when the economy was good. It was incredibly refreshing, back in 2004, to have a company that I felt really confident about. Every post I've read from people who used CP wanted to rave about their kd and about the willingness of CP to make sure that any problems were quickly resolved. It's likely a lot of companies will try harder now that economic times are more difficult, but I would consider sticking with a company that had a "customer first" attitude all the way along. My guess is that all companies involved in the construction industry are feeling quite a squeeze now, the #1 companies along with the #2. I know nothing about Candlelight and it may be that they've had a similar reputation and I just haven't noticed since I'm more likely to look at posts pertaining to CP I'm fairly "local" to CP, an easy 1 1/2 hours away---close enough so that I felt as though I could be on their doorstep quickly if need be. My cabinets were built in 2004. My sister lives far away in NM and she used CP in 2007. We had equally great experiences.

Yeah! We want pics! We want pics! (This, from the "no pics" lady). LOL! But, seriously, Danielle, your excitement is infectious. From every Crown Point installation I've seen, I know those cabs have got to be to die for. So, please bring 'em on ASAP!

I had serious doubts about the island and the wall color-- I'm sure there were other good choices I could have made, but I'm really pleased with the way everything has come together.

it is gorgeous!! the quarter sawn oak is TDF!! I absolutely love it. I was awaiting pics from you to see what CP's frameless cabs looks like. they are great.

I also ordered through Eurostoves... they are only about 15 minutes from where I live so I placed my order in person. Trevor is a great guy. He was helpful with my horrid GE Monogram fridge issue.

Can't wait to see more.

Trevor was especially responsive and effective when my delivery guys attempted to leave my entire appliance order on my driveway (in the rain!). Within minutes I had the appliances in my actual house.

We were also happy with the CP frameless-- our KD through CP provided us with 3/4" fillers to give the doors more of an inset look-- I'm glad he thought to do that. I think if we had another 20K we could have done something about the soffits, gotten taller cabinets, and gone w/ inset... we were completely maxed out, though. I think the frameless is a great way to save on a really beautiful product (better CP frameless than inset in an inferior brand.... which is what we almost ended up with).

Beautiful! CP never disappoints it seems! Love the blue island. Love how the cabs and floor work so nicely together. Looking forward to seeing the whole shebang!

I consider mysself TKO but I'm not one to go gaga for cabinets (not even CP) but what a beautiful rich and warm room.you are creating. It really has a nice organic feel in relation to the space. Might just be me but my sense is if you had it you would have been throwing that $20 000.0 away as those soffets are not going to detract at all from your new kitchen and there is a fussy quality to inset that I think works against the feel you are creating in your kitchen (enjoy the extra cabinet space and easy access).

I was really relieved when I saw your pictures because a few friends/relatives had me second guessing the blue island and the marble.

I think your kitchen is lovely and I'm pleased with the way ours turned out too-- I'm so glad we didn't go with the Buttermilk island. If we hadn't gone with the blue, I would have had some serious regrets after seeing the pictures of your kitchen.

danielle, Love your kitchen! I'm so excited as it gives us a glimpse of a kitchen similar to what we are planning. We are building a home and the walls are a soft pale yellow, alder cabinets and a blue island. I am trying to decide if our hood over the cooktop should also be blue... Can't wait to see your counter tops on, we are looking at various combinations of wood, granite/quartz. Thanks for sharing your progress pictures!

I like the punch of blue on the island and the warm yellow against the stove elevation. It makes your kitchen unique. Congratulations so far!

i'll be curious to see your final product-- it will give me another reason to stick around here after my project is done (in addition to all the other final products I can't wait to see).

The counter guy just left-- got him to move up the install date by a day by using the same tactics my kids use on me (e.g. "So, I'll see you Wednesdsay?" "Oh, come on.. Wednesday. Not Thursday", etc)
