NOOK, I see that Target has one, for $79 I think.

I feel like I'm missing out on so many free books! lol it gets expensive buying my paperbacks! lol I don't want anything like an I pad. I saw the first Kindle. And I liked the "flat" screen. There was NO glare, no shiny screen. It was also easy to read all the time... something about back lighting? Is the Nook the same? (can you tell I don't want to drive to the store? lol) I saw the kindle fire in office depot the other day and it has the shiny screen... and speaking with one lady while waiting for our cars to be service, she said that it WAS harder to read than the first one. She has 3 of them! lol

Well here is another awesome deal. Till May 5th, walmart has the kindle that is the one that has ads on it for $79 but you get a free $30 gift card with it to use as you wish so the Kindle only ends up costing $49! It is in the most recent walmart flier for Mother's Day. If you go to the walmart website and look at the latest one it is on the front page. (this is not the fire or the regular kindle it is the one that has ads on it)It has the 6" eink screen.
This is the kindle at the amazon store so you know which one the ad is offering.

thanks, Raven. Do you know how often those ads appear? Do you have problems with glare on any of your readers?

I noticed that too and got kind of excited because back in the day here at GW several paint fans liked their Devine brand and I remember feeling bummed there were no close distributors in my area (it was very regional). I haven't been in the local Target store to check it out yet. Plus the way paint brands are bought/sold/changed it might be different than the old Devine, but I'd still try a sample!

You guys are the best. Please keep the ideas coming. I don't have a good drawing of the room yet. When I make a better one I'll post it. SheilaJoyce and Patti "Federalist" was one of the styles that interested me, and I simply couldn't think of the name. And I hadn't considered white. That just might work. The breakfast nook/sliver (LOL) is at one end of the living room. The two areas are separated by the undefined pathway from the front door into the kitchen. White furniture in the nook might help separate it even more from the "L/R" area. Gayle I love your cabinet! "Ugly Pine" is my very favorite wood. Wait till you see the buffet cabinet I built many years ago. It's still waiting for it's hutch. They will live on the sunporch; no room in the front part of the house. I would feel so blessed to know I had something made by my great-great grandfather. You daughter is one lucky gal! Adellabedella I'm going to try to make a to-scale graph drawing to show just how tiny this space is. I'll post pictures when I move things around. Sharon I like you idea of the one wide panel drawn back to one side. Do you mean to pull all the fullness to the right of the window...over toward the small bookcase? I'll try that to with an old pair of curtains I already have. Lydia Would a rectangular rug be better than a round rug under this table? Thanks for the coupon code; I'll be using it. Here's the floor plan of the entire house...maybe you can get an idea of the LR space from it. The drawing says "12 feet wide," but it's more like 11", 8".

I'm going to admit I'm a little tempted by the accent chairs. I'd eventually like to get two small chairs for our living room and banish the single huge heavy leather recliner to our bedroom. The recliner is seldom used so I'm not sure it's worth investing in high end furniture for these pieces. And lightweight would be so much easier for me to clean under. (I scratched our hardwoods moving the recliner so I could vacuum this week.). I doubt I will actually get them because I'm still dithering about what exactly I want. But the look of the two I posted above would fit in with my not-at-all industrial stuff pretty well I think.

@benjesbride - I think I have. It at least sounds familiar. It was also why I was strongly considering putting a sink in the island, though some friends I polled really preferred the sink under the window. however I'm not opposed to going back to having a sink in the island since I know that's my preference (I currently get food from the fridge, wash things in the sink, then turn around to prep at the island. And it's only 3x3, so really too small for it.) I also do a lot of prepping / cooking that doesn't involve the cooktop. Lunches, salads, baking, etc. I'm truly not wedded to anything in the plan and happy to move things all around. It's just that the assumption about the kitchen to dining room being low traffic doesn't hold in our house, especially during dinner prep.

I have a Kindle Fire and I love mine. I don't have a glare problem at all and the screen is so vibrant. I didn't get mine one sale sadly.. I bought it straight from Amazon. I have seen ads for the new nook and am not impressed. I think it's their answer to the Fire and I would wait until all the tech reviews come out before getting one. IMHO of course :)

The screen on the kindle in the ad has the eink screen which you can read out in the sun you do have to have light to read it in dark places since there is no back light. The fire and most other tablets use a screen much like your pc monitor which is back lit that makes it easy to use indoors and in dark, but not as good outside in bright sunlight you will have glare to some degree depending on the angle and sunlight.
If you want just a basic ereader with no bells and whistles then the kindle in the ad is exactly that.

I personally have never played with a nook color but it does run on Android so should be able to go online and surf and do other things besides just ereader. But as I said I have never used one.

My sister has this same kindle in the ad and for her it is perfect all she wanted, plus she said many of the ads are good and she has used them. Often they are for amazon items.

I am sorry I didn't answer about the frequency of ads, I think I remember my sister saying it was at startup mostly. Not so much in the middle of her reading. But I sure could be wrong lol!

I have the K3 and the ads never show up when reading a book or playing a gamem only when I am at the pages with my collections/books.

Mine is a Kindle Touch. I would think you definitely want a reader with a touch screen. It's SO convenient, and I don't know how you'd ever play games on the cheaper ones with buttons. There's no glare on the screen, but it's not backlit (I just use a little book light when I read in bed when DH is sleeping)

hmmmmm.. I would like it back lit. I don't sit in the sun
amy more, so I guess I don't need to worry about that.
But I do find it irritating sometimes to have to move this laptop around trying to avoid the shiine from the light or
glare from the outside.
