And another puppy nap

He didn't like trying to sleep in his little puppy carrier. It's the one he arrived in at the airport.

When he'd take his afternoon naps I took the opportunity to gather up all his toys and take "cute" photos. He liked being covered.

We bought the biggest kennel possible (the one in the other photos) hoping it would still fit when he grew up. It doesn't. It's okay to put him in for a few minutes, but he can't stretch out or hold his head up when in it so we don't use it for more than 15-30 minutes at a time.

Oh no Moonie, I just realized that your other post is about your adorable Quincy here. Know that my thoughts are with you even though I didn't open your other thread (too heartbreaking). I've heard that retrievers have beautiful personalities but not sure how they compare to the Havanese. I know that my dog can make certain people feel special. lol. He either likes you or doesn't and if you'll know by his reaction to you. He'll race around the house at top speed totally excited to see you, and then try to hump you. He's a good judge of character.

It is tricky - on one hand, you do want to be very careful. My mom's Westie suffered a broken leg while playing with the neighbor dog (a very nice, but rambunctious Lab). On the other hand, I agree with everyone who said that Bella is teaching the new pup valuable lessons about how to behave around other dogs. My terrier puppy's "best friend" is a Doberman mix shelter rescue, Violet, who was surrendered for being aggressive with other dogs. So I was very nervous about letting them play together, especially when my puppy was very young, but so far they have played together for months with no problems whatsoever. What helps, I think, is that Violet is much, much faster than my puppy, and it seems to me that when she tires of rough play, she either races around, knowing my puppy will never catch her, or comes to the door to be let in. I don't let them play inside, just in case my puppy might be able to corner Violet, and I think having her play with an older dog has been a really good experience for her. So let them play, just be careful!

My one year old english bulldog has weekly puppy play dates with another Eng. Bully.They bark at each other all the time. Tootsie likes to run up onto chairs or tables and Lulu sits on the ground barking at her to come play. they're talking. They actually get quite vocal. And their playing looks rough to me with all the biting but you can see they are enjoying themselves. They run around the yard chasing each other. Lulu goes and gets tootsies toys and drop them in front of her to get her attention. They were even playing tug of war today with the rope. I think as a dog owner you can recognize when your dog is playing or when she is getting mad.

When does he go to bed?? The feeding schedule sounds about right, unless you're going to bed at about 8:30. You want him to have enough time to go to the bathroom before going to sleep. Same deal with the water, take it up with enough time for him to go outside at least once before bed so he's not going to bed with a full bladder. Some dogs will vomit up yellow bile if they haven't eaten for too long, 12 hours MAY be too long for his age, although probably fine. If he does vomit bile in the morning - try bumping his last feeding up a little bit to see if that helps - or you could also move the morning feed back a bit, if it's feasible. Also if you do notice bile - you could save a small portion of his dinner, to give to him at bed time. If that's allowed. Usually they only need a little nibble to keep their tummy settled through the night.

Oh no, Murraysmom. Don't worry. I should have said in all three of my "napping" posts that these photos are all "baby pictures" of the original, very real and alive, now aged 11 years, Harry. Harry the Perfect and Sam the Not are happy, healthy, and full of vim and vinegar, or something-and-vinegar! LOL

I found a box of old Kodak photo discs that had all of Harry's puppy/baby photos from 2003. I wanted to share them.

TeddyBear - Harry, and Sam, are Deutsch Drahthaars, a German versatile hunting breed. Harry is great-uncle, x3, to Sam.

I'm so glad, Caroline. He was an adorable baby, but I'm glad he is still with you now.

My Carmelita changed a lot in looks since she was a baby. But she only went from 4 lbs. to 11 lbs.

Caroline, you always make me laugh the way you swoon over Harry and just "tolerate" Sam. Harry is wonderful, Sam, not so much.
