Maybe you will end up using some of those deep drawers for grocery items such as cereal boxes or tall bottles of oil, vinegar, etc. I'm sure you can also find some kind of divider so you can store trays and cookie sheets. Don't despair. Nobody gets it perfect.

There are a lot of dividers and organizers out there. Check out containerstore.com (I think that's the right URL).

I would LOVE to have a bunch of deep drawers. They're much more flexible.

In this kit, 5 yrs ago I did 3 sets of drawers like describe. I found them so easy to work with I am redoing a kit in our new/old home and I did all lower drawers, no cabs except under the sink. Be calm, you will love them.

I don't think you made a mistake at all, I think you'll be very pleased with all those deep drawers. I personally, don't like 4 drawer stacks, the shallow drawers just aren't useful.

I agree with everyone else -- you're going to love them! I have eight stacks of 5/10/15" drawers and could not be happier.

Ok, I'll be the dissenting voice. While I love all my drawers, I wish I had done at least one bank of 4 instead of 3. I use two utility drawers and the deeper one has wasted space. I ended up putting a clear box (came with the KA fridge for egg storage) in the deeper drawer to hold seldom used utensils. That helped free up some space.

I used one of my large shallow drawers for baking supplies ... spatulas, measuring spoons, stackable measuring cups, beaters, and other baking supplies like vanilla, spices, baking powder, soda, etc. I even have enough room in the same drawer for paper goods like plastic wrap, wax paper, parchment, resealable bags, and foil.

You'll make it work. We all do.

I like deep drawers. You might want to check on the actual depth of the drawer box though. My deep drawers have a full-height front but the box itself is much shallower. This is fine for my pot drawers but I have a tupperware drawer that I'd like to have full-height because stuff topples out the side. The shallow box does provide very easy access and I have less of a sense of reaching way in to find things.

I never would have thought to specify it or even ask. I guess it depends on what you plan to store in the drawers and how wide they are.

I don't think you made a mistake. The deeper drawers are very useful. Plates, glasses, tupperware, pots and pans, groceries, etc. You could also put a basket in one and stack napkins and dish towels in it.

You did not make a mistake. I have four lower cabinets in my kitchen. I have four too many, too. ;)

I have been thinking about this myself. It looks like a combination would be a good solution, but does it look out of balance?

Hey, I was just wondering if my huge deep/wide drawers were a mistake - I have 10" of height and I am not even using 1/2 of it. I went from the situation where it was all narrow banks of 4 (3 small and one "deep") so I was desperate for deep drawer space in the remodel.

Right now I'm OK as I switched to induction so threw out all my pots and pans and have only 7 items but don't have room to grow without putting pans inside of each other which I do not want to do. The drawer is not big enough to turn the pans sideways so here I sit with all this "wasted" space in over 1/2 of my deep drawers (for refence the wood sides of the cab are about 5 3/4" high out of the almost 10" available depth):

Frying pans stacked and separated by a sheet of papertowel
lids on-end slotted in a rack bourght separately
small deep drawer for dry goods such as potatoes, onions etc.

I love my deep drawers!!! I have 6 of them, In one set are my everyday kitchen dishes. I also have two sets of china, one a cheep set and the other a set my mother gave me. I love them in drawers. I am only 5' tall and so much easier then getting a stool and reaching.

I, too, love my deep drawers, BUT I do wish I had some more shallow ones, as well. I have one bank of 12" wide drawers with one shallow and two deep ones. I so wish I had made that stack one deep and three shallow. It's just the particular placement of items that makes it so for me. I plan to do something like the OP asked about--finding an insert that will effectively make two shallow drawers out of the top deep one. If anyone knows where to purchase these, I'd love to know, because I was assuming I'd have to have one made.

We'll see if my intense planning ahead eliminates this problem for me or not. I was almost embarrassed to show people my kitchen plans when they asked to see what the new kitchen was going to look like - - because EVERY single cabinet had a label of what I was going to put in it. I thought through every single item in my kitchen and the items I wanted to BRING BACK to my kithen from the garage etc. I measured and obsessed. I did do one bank of 4 drawers because the shallower drawers are good for silverware, foil/saran/wax paper/ and ziplocks. I did choose deep drawers for all the other base cabinets so that I could fit the very items listed by other posters above. Because I gave this so much thought and I know where everything will go when I get to unpack in this kitchen, I feel pretty confident about my choices. I hope when the panic subsides and your cabinets arrive that you feel really good about your choices. Just doing all drawers is definately a step in the right direction!

Another thing I seem to remember from doing my master bath is that not all manufacturers give you the option. They either carry the 3-stack of the 4-stack. Is that accurate?

Also, what are the recommended widths for different items: pans, dishes, etc?
