HA! Love monicakm's "dumb stick"! I've tripped over it around here from time to time, too. awm, the wall color is RH Silver Sage. I love it. Very restful and calming. I haven't been able to read through and digest all of the good advice in the posts yesterday. It was Saturday. Around here Saturday is a serious football day...and night. As a friend said, "I am worn out. I played every down without moving from my sofa." I'm hoping to get around to testing some of the ideas today. The tripod seems to have been "mislaid." Before Picnik went kaput, I had gotten fairly good at editing with it. I've never caught on to Paint - the one that came with MS Office. I downloaded the free edition of PhotoScape through cnet. It was great to work with, but it caused all sorts of problems with my computer. I've tried Picasa but I've never even come close to mastering it. Here is another attempt. I changed the angle both horizontally and vertically. This time, I was sitting in a chair close to the armoire mirror. I used the piece of white paper to try to "trick" the phone camera into correctly balancing the white. Cawaps, those chairs are great. Love the "ears" on the back. Your combination of dark ceiling, mid-tone walls, light rug is unusual and I like it. I appreciate your thoughtful comments. This has been fun. I loved seeing each design. I think Crl's is my personal favorite. I could really visualize the room, with the pale blue lincrusta paper, beautiful chandelier, and the great rug that tied it all together and made it a bit more modern. Thank you all for participating! I think maybe we'll get more participation when it's not a holiday weekend. Any ideas for next week? Anyone want to put it together? I'll go back and look at the suggestions and post them.

Mark...things are a bit different in my next of the woods. Developers here, buy huge tracts of land, develop it, and build the homes. So we have full neighborhoods with cookie cutter houses...as the developer may have about perhaps only 8-10 styles to chose from. And historically there once were very few developers...this has changed over the years... Until I grew up and moved away, I thought that's how the world was. Lol

MS Colours, In general any manmade material that is attempting to mimic something found in nature just doesn’t look as good as the real thing. There are many reasons to use manmade facsimiles in interior design including cost, durability, availablility, etc, but in this case it would most likely be costly to get someone skilled enough to paint the door to look like real wood. It would probably just make more sense to change the door to stain grade wood if it’s that important to the OP. Painting the door a color that gives the warm feeling of wood would probably be a better option.
