What Are You Doing Today?

I am baby sitting at Amber's. Baby is asleep. Before I left home I cleaned a big bag of carrots and used some of them in my wrap around hamburgers I have put together and formed, not baked yet but in the refrigerator. It is sure cloudy out today, I don't know if it is to rain or not. What are you doing today anyone baking?

Woke up to snow again. Got 2 inches yesterday and about 1/2 inch today, and more tomarrow. Not going out much except to Dr's it seems with my back and dh's issues. Have to catch up on some ironing today.
Have a great day and keep those who got hit by tornados in your thoughts.

No plans for today. I may do one load of laundry. I would love to pot new plants for my front porch but don't want to drive out of town to buy what I need.
I just started a new book so may just relax and read today.

I have work today and am recovering from 4 days of singing. We had our choral performances on Thursday and Friday evening, then 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Our voices are about worn out and we're pretty exhausted. Plus DH came down with a virus, so he actually missed Wednesday's rehearsal and the Thursday and Friday performances. Bummer for him having to miss since we rehearse starting in September and you put all that work into it. He's one of the main first tenors so he was missed. I should explain - we sing in a Living Christmas Tree, which is a really big deal here with over 120 voices, full orchestra, and guest performers. It draws huge crowds, nearly filling the church most performances. Now I'm a bit behind in my Christmas prep but will hopefully catch up this week. Always do.

Happy Valentines Day to me, I've been on my hands and knees in the island and driveway beds trying to make some sense of winters mess ;0) Really, I feel pretty pleased, it looks better out there and I've been inside with our rain and cold for too many days. I found some baptisia shoots under the leaves, some inula too. I don't know yet if the salvia survived the colder winter, too soon to tell. DH helped me take down a 12' rhody to the ground, one of 5 in a row we'd already shorted by about 8' two years ago and this one didn't ever thrive again like the others. I was pulling leaves and debris out from under the azalea hedge when it started to rain again so I came in - thinking it was about 5 PM from the darker sky and it was 3:30. I'm not sure what we're going to eat tonight, maybe he'll cook a steak. I have a couple of lobster tail in the freezer that I like, but lobster isn't his preference ever... We are aiming for a Costco trip Thursday but DH did run to the store with a short list for me this morning and came home with flowers. Grocery store flowers, but I'm not complaining ;0)

Yesterday: DH realized his drivers license was missing, freaking out commenced. :0) We drove to two commercial buildings he'd had to get a security badge to enter. Being Saturday, people manning the front desk were off, no one to ask if they'd found his license, me driving...him...going crazy. lol He finally found it at home, in the scanner. Ran errands. Rented a movie(The Girl On The Train) @ the library. Went to REI, then Dicks Sporting Goods & purchased Yeti mugs w/ handles. REI was out of black ones & handles. Grocery shopped. Purchased rib-eye steaks. Grilled those for dinner, before the snow storm hit. Answered a CL ad, in a nearby town 37 minutes one way, for a FREE wrought iron gate. Had to use GPS to find it, one of those up-in-the-woods custom housing developments. He said he wouldn't hold it & would take the ad down when gone. Got there, no gate, ad was down, went home. Checked my email, he said "where are you?" Drove ALL the way back, he WAS HOLDING IT FOR US....really nice guy! Gate is perfect! It's an unusual size...it's six feet tall, four feet wide.

I spent the morning mowing the area below the dam of our pond. Unbeknownst to me a plastic "rock" solar light got washed to the bottom of the dam and I hit it with the mower, utterly destroying it. Then around lunch I went to a "Junior handler" hound show, which had the children handling and showing both hunting beagles, and fox hounds. After that I spent the afternoon trimming overhanging bushes and trees on our long driveway. I heard thunder and decided to stop for the day and gather everything up and put it away. Then the storm arrived. The worst of it only lasted about 45 minutes, but it was raining sideways, dropping 1 inch hail, blowing incredibly hard, and frequent, close lightning flashes. The horses were really not happy. Water was cascading down steps behind the house, flooding the driveway in several places, and blowing under doors and windows on the side facing the wind. When it slackened my wife and I went out to survey what happened, and found a plastic chair that was on the beach by the pond that had blown across the driveway and 30 feet up the hill on the other side. We also found the tiny creek that crosses the driveway a raging torrent. and one smaller culvert blocked causing sticky red mud to back-up, and cover the uphill side. The worst though was an 18" diameter sycamore tree that was down completely blocking our driveway. So the rest of the evening was spent outside in the rain, trying to clear that large tree from our driveway. Fun.

I was supposed to go to Buffalo with a friend, but those plans were cancelled. So, DH and I went to buy a squirrel proof bird feeder (sure hope it works), and we went to Canadian Tire for something. Right now I'm going to make chicken parmesan, and then I'm going to work on some gum paste flowers. I'm also going to make some cookies that look like carrots for my son's students.

have been out checking the flower beds and the little garden patch. Beautiful day here lots of blue sky and sunshine not too hot yet there is a nice breeze blowing.
We have a few shops to go to some time this weekend.
Hope to pick up some boiled crawfish later for a feast out in the back yard.

My day started very early. Yesterday a friend invited me to go to a 7 a.m. Kiwanis meeting with his wife and him. They were supposed to bring guests today because the speaker was the Athletic Director at Iowa State. I usually don't even get up until 8 or 8:30. Once I got there it was a lot of fun. There were 2 fellows I know from church. I sat across the table from the owner of a painting business here and they do custom painting. I told him DS would be moving in a couple of weeks and looking for a job. I am actually going to Kiwanis again in 2 weeks when the women's basketball coach will be the speaker.

Measuring toilet paper. LOL!

I'm also doing some housework and laundry while DH is out at an all day event at his college.

Light rain and overcast today. Our Westie looks cute out there, gambolling over the newly green lawn. He does this stiff-legged little jump and bark, warning away those nervy squirrels.

I'm feeling grateful that my intestinal 'bug' seems to be finally GONE after a whole week, and that DH's colonoscopy yesterday was OK. Now I need to gain back some weight and schedule my own test.

I'm going to wash my car and then start weeding. Weeding is a big deal around our house, unfortunately, and it's a never-ending job. Not looking forward to it, but it has to get started.

Sometimes I think we should pave the whole 5 acres and get it over with. Just kidding.

My power cord died on my laptop last nite. I was panicking being without a computer! I have a tough time with power cords, I'm always buying new ones. :(

Raining on and off all day.

Had an appointment this morning with a client, then bought a power cord. Crapped at the price of gas this morning......$1.33 litre! I love my car, but it's a little pig on gas.

Making a quickie dinner, tacos, cause hubby has to be at the Knights of Columbus Hall with his band-mates at 5. They're setting up, then coming back to do a surprise birthday party/dance for 9pm.

Not much today, but worked on my laptop last night until 3AM. My cd/dvd drive disappeared, when I reformatted it was back then, disappeared again. Every instruction I found wanted me to go into the registry and fix it there. I wouldn't go there as long as I have a warranty. I finally had to call a tech. He walked me to a MS site and found a fix for it. Easy when you know what you are doing. It was frustrating, but I like the PC so well it really didn't bother me. I hate to ask for help with anything. Today I mainly sat around and relaxed. My knees are killing me because of the sitting for hours.

It's cold here and raining. I wanna go back to Florida! Got up and took the girls to the post office so they could mail letters and a box back home. Then took Lauren to Wal-mart for a contact lens exam and then to the Sprint store in Frankfort (about 15 minutes from us) to get a new phone. She lost her's at Universal in Florida, on a roller coaster. Then her and I went to eat at Beef O' Bradys and came home again.

Came home and did a load of laundry, dishes and cleaned the fridge and microwave up. I want to Spring clean so bad but I hate doing it when I can't open the sunroom door and windows and let the fresh air in. So, maybe it will be warmer tomorrow.

My grass is getting high already but I've been working the past three days and it rained on and off since we got back. I'm hoping the next couple days is dry so I can have the lawn care people come out and mow.

Tonight, it's just me, Johanna and Alex here. Maria went to a party with her boyfriend and Lauren just left to spend the night with her friends. So, I guess me and Johanna will watch a movie...maybe the three of us can play some games.

Working on my dissertation data. Wish I had more data but at least I have 116 (really wanted 200). Right now I am cleaning it- making sure I entered everything correctly. So far, not too many huge errors but it is so tedious!

I am a Master Gardener. Today we had our annual plant sale from plants we propogated from our homes. We made almost $6,000. This evening I'm going to a Sunday School departmental party. I did take a well needed nap this afternoon. I really am tired after sitting in the 70 degree heat from 8 til 1.

We got the expected rain, thunderstorms and a "Real Flood Warning!" (That is actually what it said; guess they were just kidding before.)

Anyway, it poured buckets and was windy also. This is the day our High School Honor Society had a a "Senior" Prom for us. I wanted to go so badly and I don't drive in the rain anymore, so I bundled up and walked to the Activity Center; about a 1/2 block. I am so glad I did. It was delightful. Seeing these young, healthy, very polite kids did my heart good. They had Karaoke, took pictures of each of us, played Bingo, had raffle prizes, Prom King and Queen, and good refreshments.

It was worth the walk in the rain, and I was refreshed by those youngsters.

That is the High School where my DH taught.
