Tahoe Blue Plaster/Midnight Blue Pebbles??

I really like the Tahoe blue but wanted to get just a few shades darker for the water color. PB said we could use Tahoe Blue plaster and Midnight Blue pebbles. Anyone or any PB on here ever see this mix?? If not what would you think the final look and water color would be?

We have done this in a few pools with mixed results. For one reason or the other, this combination has a tendancy to "streak" or "model". I actually really like the look but about 50% of the HO's have said they would not chose it again. Most of the dark spots on the bottom of the pool are not shadows they are the variations in the pebble.

OMG, I must have jinxed myself. We walked around in the pool today and were puzzled about how it felt -- alot bumpier than we thought it would be. That's when we realized that either our PB or the installer made a big mistake, because we have regular pebbles rather than the mini-pebbles. There's a huge difference between the 2 -- we put the samples we had in the pool and there was no question we didn't have mini-pebbles. The good thing is we have our e-mail where we told the PB our final selection, so it's clearly not our fault. We're waiting to hear what the PB has to say -- they've been great so far, so I know they'll fix it. I just don't relish the thought of what it will take to drain the pool, scrape out the pebbles and re-do it all, so we're trying to decide if we can live with it. We actually really like the look of the larger pebbles, but I'm still not sure I feel like sitting on them in the spa. I'll keep you posted. At the very least, I can show you some pictures of Tahoe Blue regular pebbles, and if we decide to have it redone, I can show you both! There's never a dull moment with a pool build, is there?

Grub - If it makes you feel any better, my wife and I went through the same concern as you and your wife, three years ago when we first filled up our pool. A lot of people do, I've seen it posted on this site many times. Just running the filter and getting the water balanced eliminated the green tint for us.

Hi there---we have Stonescapes Tahoe Blue and LOVE IT. I agree with gk5040---make sure you check the colors of the actual pebbles in the finish regardless of which pebble company you go with!!!! We have a lagoon pool with double waterfalls with moss rock and flagstone coping/decking--we wanted the natural look. I had thought we were going to go wth Stonescapes Midnight Blue for a deeper blue but hated the blue pebbles in the mix. When I went to go check out three pools with Midnight Blue, I could never get past how fake the blue stones looked on the sunshelves, steps, and spas---the areas of a pool you first see close up. They looked like fish tank gravel!! Tahoe Blue had natural looking pebbles. Look for a natural looking mix!!!! Also make sure the plaster company uses black returns and drains--not white. We also got a Polaris Black Max--do't get a white pool cleaner--it will not blend in. Best of Luck to you!!! Decisions, decisions...

We're in the middle of construction right now. We kept going back and forth and eventually compromised with something in between, a little darker than Tahoe Blue and lighter than Midnight Blue. We're going with Aqua Blue, but with two extra bottles of blue to make the background to the pebble darker (the standard background is light). We were told that Tahoe Blue often has a green tint and that Midnight Blue is probably too dark. Aqua Blue is in between as far as darkness, and is more of a pure blue without the green tint.

It's my experience with blue tints in plaster, that they always streak, and mottle.

Thanks for the info and the pictures, that was very helpful. I did see what you were talking about with the spots on the bottom.

Racket: Is the Tahoe Blue plaster more blue then gray? I can't really tell from the sample pic's from the manufactures.

garageworksguy, FWIW the wife and i saw an aqua blue PS pool which i've been told is the same as tahoe blue PT. it did seem to have a more blue tine than our blue granite PS. if you search tahoe blue on this site there are plenty of pictures of that color. we actually nearly changed our mind to aqua blue. good luck!

Here is a close up shot of our water with Tahoe Blue. I was very worried about it looking gray or green based on what I had read. I am very happy with the water color and I am so glad I didn't spend extra money on an upgrade color.

I'm jealous, my applicator will not vary on the Pebble Tec or Sheen colors at all.
I've been offered mixes by the Wet Edge applicator who's been trying to get my business.
My guy who does Diamond Brite makes a beautiful color by mixing D-Brite Tahoe Blue and Midnight Blue. Because it's a bagged product it's easy to keep the color consistent with the bag count. I always wondered why Pebble Tec didn't too, after all it's also a bagged product.

Ajones is correct, Aqua Blue is MUCH more blue than Blue Granite. I, however, don't favor it over Blue Granite it because of that.
IMO, it looks like a pool full of Windex window cleaner.

Get verification of the type of pigments that are in PT's blue plasters.
IT IS ORGANIC BLUE pigment, pthalocyanine to be exact, and is used to dye textiles. It will bleach with exposure to chlorine, just like blue jeans do.
It streaks because the pigment is so fine. It will float to the surface of the plaster and must be troweled back into the cement matrix. Fortunately for PT, the pebbles hide the bleaching and streaking.

IF you have to have their product, be sure to take pictures of the color during the installation, after the pool is filled with water, and after a couple of months of exposure to chlorine and sunlight. Take another a year later... the dark blues will turn to a dark grey... the light blues will turn to light grey...
Heck, do your own experiment, ask the plaster crew to pour some of the wet plaster into a mold and let it cure. Once it has cured for 28 days, set the sample tile half way into a container of weak household bleach and place it out of the way where it can get sunlight. The half that is exposed will change color with in a week or two...

Buy a plaster that is known for using ONLY INORGANIC PIGMENTS (i.e. cobalt oxides)
