Pressure relief valve is touchy

One year old Rheem Fury water heater, 40 gallon gas.

I inadvertently leaned against the pr valve while installing insulation and of course it shot out a bit- no problem, except that it continued to weep slightly.

I assumed there might be a bit of fine grit or such in the works and touched it off a few times to clear it, and that seems to have worked. This morning it is dry.

Questions: 1)Are pr valves likely to cause problems? I've never experienced it before. And 2)Should I be concerned that the base of the heater is slow to dry (it sits on a concrete floor in an unfinished basement)? My wife is convinced it'll rust out in no time and we'll need a new one.

Thanks very much for your help.
