dog doors?
Comments (9)I have three Brittanys now, and have owned three at a time for many years. (love 'em!). BY FAR, the best dog door I have ever owned is the type I have linked below. I used to have another type that was a soft (but heavy) vinyl flap with attached magnets, and for the first several years, they were great. But they changed manufacturers, and the quality went way down. I started looking for a better style/brand. I was a bit shocked at the price of this kind, but after reading reviews for it on many sites, I bit the bullet and got one. It's been in for a few years, with my three blasting through it several times a day (and night) and it's worth every penny I paid for it. Comments (33)I've researched A LOT on this and found that Cork is the way to go but you must be careful that it comes from Portugal. Anywhere else is likely to be mixed with something and you want 100%. Cork is naturally water repellent, antimicrobial, resistant to mold and mildew. It is a little pricey but well worth it. A bonus is it is bug repellent and great for those with allergies. Unfortunately, there is no sealant so far that resists ammonia which is the main component of pet urine. Waterproof only means water, we are dealing with a chemical here. That being said, while not resistant to it cork holds up best to the ammonia, meaning you still have to thoroughly clean that spot with the proper cleaner but not within 5 minutes of the dog peeing. Less wiggle room with waterproof sealants but cheaper. Definitely want to go for vinyl or tile if looking for the cheapest route and no floating floors or sticky floors use grout and seal it well and stay on top of cleaning. Again make sure you use the appropriate cleaners. BTW I have 3 Chihuahua's one who is an inbred so had some incontinent issues and another who was diagnosed with diabetes so also has some issues with incontinence it was just suggested to me to try a belly band so I am going to look into that. I hope I was of some help. Good luck....See MoreBest Locking Dog Door
Comments (3)I had a Staywell. It made a clicking sound when released and old dog was afraid of it, never used it. When I got new dogs, they tore it up barreling through. Then Roxy chewed up Bo's sensor. It actually worked if the dogs aren't too hard on it, and it didn't blow open like the one I have now. Seems like it was close to $200.00 for Rottweiler size....See MoreDog urinating on carpet. Dog trained is trained with dog door. Why?
Comments (5)There can be several reasons why she's peeing in the house. 1. It's not unusual for dogs to pee on new carpet. Not sure why but a carpet layer told me he see's it all the time. Something about the smell of new carpet. 2. It's possible your MIL's dog has had some accidents she's not aware of and your dog is marking where's the other dog has gone. 3. Just because a doggy door is installed (anywhere) doesn't mean your dog will use it. It sounds like your dog hasn't gotten into the routine of living in a different house and the stress of the move has probably caused some anxiety. Plus, there may be something on the other side of the doggy door she doesn't like. 4. Your dog could also have some urinary problems, either stones or an infection, so it warrants a trip to the vet to rule out that possibility. For now, I'd suggest you walk your dog outside often so that she becomes comfortable with the surroundings. There could be a neighbors dog or something else outside that she's afraid of. Take her out thru the door that has the doggy door and when she does pee/poop give her lots of praise (treats are optional). While outside, observe her reactions to anything in the general area. Purchase a black light to find any missed pee spots and treat them with a product made for pet urine. The black light will also show if your MIL's dog has had any accidents. The little things that show up with a black light can be scary. :) Also, don't assume every spot is pee. Food and liquid spills can also leave spots that show up with the black light, so to determine if it's truly pee.......you'll need to smell it....See Moreschmaltzy
