Intellitouch and Intelliflo Freeze modes

Do you need to have anything programmed to do freeze mode?

It seems to run in a slow mode 18gpm, but I asking if the Solar panels are working also working or not. I used value A for the solar. Solar is set for 40gpm.

The pool/spa mode are set by default to be on.

Everything else should be added in.

Its under menu-setup-advanced-circuit functions. Click on the function you want on, and it will say on with freeze yes/no.

Ok I understand what you're saying, but I don't need something that states Solar as this is default on right?

Or do I need to have a display button state Solar so I can state set for Freeze mode? I have solar in the intelliflo pump setup for 40gpm, but only the value A for solar in the intellitouch.

Only pool is set for Freeze mode. I'm concern as we have a cold night the solar panel may freeze up and cause some damage.

Freeze protect will protect what you want it to protect. It's programmable. Between 60 and 52, a salt cell, not just Pentair's, looses its ability to inject enough energy into the cell plates to split the sodium and chlorine in a salt molecule. Scott

Landa Mac - As noted I have found the Intellitouch system to be full of bugs. The hardware has so far been pretty foolproof but the software is pretty weak, specifically: 1. Intellibrites - The Intellitouch manual says: "Each of the energy efficient IntelliBrite colored LED arrays can be individually controlled to custom create any color sequence of the rainbow spectrum.". Unfortunately this is just not true. Each light, if wired to an aux circuit, can be turned on and off but intellibrites can not be individually set to any of its modes. Supposedly, this can be done in groups, but that fails to properly work also. 2. Feature circuits - The intellitouch system is limited to programming 10 feature circuits. With an i10+3D and i10X and 2 valve expansion modules, my hardware is set up to be able to control 10 valves, each of which is typically set up as a feature circuit. I also need to program some macros, each of which also requires the use of a feature circuit. I can not take advantage of the hardware I purchased due to am arbitrary software limitation. The presence of the i10x effectively doubles the AUX circuits from 10 to 20 adds a second programming screen for the extra 10, but no screen is added for additional FEATURE circuits. 4. "DUMB" logic. I have a "SPA ON" macro that turns on the spa pump & heater and closes the spillover valve to isolate the spa & pool. Works fine. I have a "SLIDE" macro that opens a slide valve and closes the spillover valve to direct sufficient flow to the slide. Works fine. Unfortunately, If I use SPA ON and SLIDE at the same time, and then turn either macro off the spillover valve opens and I am forced to toggle the other macro manually tp fprce the right valve position. 5. More "DUMB" logic. I have valves to control the spa spillover, the slide and bubblers. I also have a VF pump. I would like to set up the system to be able to use any number of those valves simultaneously with the pool returns still running by bumping up the VF flow for each open valve using a macro. There is no such capability. I can program custom flows for any macro but there is no way to just add to the current flow. I could, of course, come up with 6 different macros, such as "SPILLOVER + SLIDE" and "SLIDE + BUBBLERS" but that would soon get cumbersome and I do not have enough FEATURE circuits anyway. As the owner of an ELK security system and a CRESTRON home control system I know what fully robust programmability allows. As the owner of an PENTAIR intellitouch, I get the opposite end of the spectrum, i.e. minimal programmability. Unfortunately I have lots of expensive PENTAIR hardware and no way to effectively automate anything but basic functions and even then some just plain do not work as advertised.

Thank you for responding to my question. It is not freeze protection - I am past that season now (I'm in FL the temps are in high 80s now) and when freeze protection comes on it says "freeze" on the main display. I have the IntelliFlow wired directly to the 220V breaker and the control cable is wired to the IntelliTouch. The IntelliTouch is about two years old. It has been upgraded (firware upgrade) so it supports the IntelliFlow and ThemaFlow products. I wonder if the reason it won't maintain my schedules is because the IntelliFlow is calculating turnovers based on water flow and shutting off early (when the turnover is finished) rather than just running the full time I schedule it for. If I hear from anybody reagrding programing (or not needing to program) Filter Schedules in IntelliFlow - I'll post back. The manual seems to be geared to programming the IntelliFlow to control pool features (waterflalls, ect, start/stop times) so the IntelliFlow controls those things for those owners that don't have a programmable contol unit (like the IntelliTouch). Since I have the IntelliTouch I think I can skip all the programming steps in the IntelliFlow and let the IntelliTouch do the scheduling work - that is my real question.

You might change the program in the Intellitouch to see if the pumps runs per the I9 or the Intelliflo program. I think the Intellitouch programming will override the Intelliflo programming so I bet this is the issue. I forgot and left my I9 breaker off one time and my pump still ran as programmed on the pump but not as programmed per the I9. Can you see the Intelliflo menu on the I9 system? That is also a way to verify the comm. Link between the Intellitouch and the Intelliflo.? The Intelliflo (full) should be wired directly to the Intellitouch panel via the comm cable, not via a relay so it sounds like you got re wired correctly. The Other 4x160's will need to be wired into the relays so you are correct about that also. More relays if you want more flow settings top be controlled from the Intellitouch panel If it was me I would get the Pentair rep out to review your installation and programming. I would also call the electrical company to have them out at the same time to fix the items done incorrectly. You just purchased roughly $ 7,500.00 -10K worth of Pentair equipment so I bet they will be happy to come out and give you a hand. Also many of the builders are not familiar with how to program the Intelliflo pumps so the Pentair Reps said they end up doing most of the initial start ups.

I don't do many solar systems so I can't recall if the solar comes up in equipment function or not.

If you are really worried about it you can manually activate the solar valve on the dip switch then turn it to off when in solar mode. Then the pool mode should activate it in freeze mode.

Thanks for your honesty, I checked both manuals online and they are a bit fuzzy on the subject also. Not spelling it out to me.

I dont believe solar will come on in regular freeze mode.
Try setting a feature cir called "solar", and set freeze to yes. You already have a speed set to "solar", so that should work. You can manually try it by turning on the feature cir and see if the valve rotates.

Thinking about it, you could just assign the solar valve to a feature circuit, then find it in equipment functions and flag it to "yes" for freeze mode.

The pump should already be running, so all you have to do is operate the valve.

In calling Pentair tech support, they too stated solar doesn't go on in freeze mode. The solar shouldn't need to since it has a drain back hole in the valve.

I did call a display feature circuit then stated yes on freeze mode. But wonder if I need to or not, after that call... Or more confused now?

A drain back hole? As in VRV? Doesn't do anything for the up pipe feeding the panels.

Some solar systems have a check valve in the diverter to allow them to drain down. However if the pump turns back on this doesn't do much good.

I'd either ciculate water through the panels, or drain them completely.

Well I tried to operate activator manually but did nothing like no power. So first thing I need to find out why that is not working. I did this a couple weeks ago and everything worked ok as I didn't find any leaks. I have setup a cooling mode so I could operate solar at night to cool off pool if needed. It's works by reversing power via relay to activator by the 2nd speed connection. I could add freeze protection on this feature to flow water to solar panels.

Side not the water temp sensor is bad so reading 165f or so. Didn't think that could be a problem but the tech in me says fix the most obvious first.

Don't know about the solar variety, but I found out the hard way Freeze protection is automatic on the intelliflo. Had some problems with the DE filter a few weeks ago and had the piping connections tore apart when I ran out of daylight, naturally the pump was off but powered. Got up the next morning and the pool was 6" lower than it was the night before! (it was in the 30's) Fortunately I had the skimmers open which must have caviated the pump out once the level dropped below them, otherwise the entire pool might have been pumped out over the yard. Be aware of this feature!!!

Hmm, I would call that a bug. I am going to post that on Pentair's Innovation Lab site. What versions of code on the IntelliTouch, IntelliFlo, and if you are running it, Screen Logic?

I believe they are removing that freeze protection because of issues such as this one.

In Service Mode, the control cable is essentially disconnected from the panel and the pump resumes it's uncontrolled state, i.e. it's panel reassumes control and Freeze Protect in the pump's controller is active! The only thing to do is to cut the power to the pump.
