Are there any women's shelters in your area - they might like the donation. I'd rather donate than try to figure out a price for selling - the hassle of selling, calls, waiting around for some one to come by and get the item, etc. But that's my opinion.

and if you donate, unless you need the cash asap, get a recipt and take it off on your income tax...

In our area, we have a place called "Pergnancy Resource Center." There are a lot of mothers-to-be who have great needs.

The way people sue today, and given that the kind of person who would consider buying a used (even if it's like new) mattress probably are pretty low on funds... Well, I'd just be afraid that they might trump something up. It's not worth selling baby items these days, and then getting sued over it. And after hearing the Charles Ng story, there's no way I'd EVER advertise ANYTHING inviting strangers to come by the house to buy it.

Me? I'd donate it to a worth charity--a local woman's shelter, home for unwed mothers, or--one of my favorite charities--the local AID'S baby hospice if they could use it, and just take the tax deduction

Our Goodwill sells things at ridiculous high prices and there have been several stories in the KC Star about workers getting 'caught' either taking things, or racking up prices and then taking the money. I don't trust them or the Salvation Army anymore. Even tho you get a receipt at those places, if I'm giving something away I'd rather give to an individual.

Personally I'd either sell or donate to an individual using Craig's List. There are so many sad stories, you can usually pick out the ones that are real vs. the ones that are made up.

I googled that mattress and it sells for around $90 new. Since it's technically used even if it wasn't, if I wanted cash I wouldnt charge more than $45 for it and probably would go around $35 just to move it out.

Hmmm, another option I just thought of is to check with friends and co-workers to see if anyone is having a baby or grandchild, they might be interested in buying it.

If you knew there was a recall, I would say throw it out. But considering it's still brand new, either sell it or give it to an organization like Birthright, which helps unwed mothers.

Sell it, but discount it steeply.

Donate it to a women's shelter or such...but not to Goodwill...they're a scam pretending to be a charity.

I don't think Goodwill takes mattresses because they have to be professionally sanitized. I know your is brand new, but I just wanted you to be aware of their policy. (at least here in MO, that is the case.

I'd look into a crisis nursery or women's shelter. jmho

Thank you all for your input. I don't need the money so I have decided to donate the mattress along with some toddler toys that my granddaughter says she doesn't want any more. There are several places to call tomorrow about giving to them and see how to go about it.
It will be good to see the things go for a worthy (I hope) cause.
Azalea, I had not heard of the Charles Ng case- he is truly a monster- many more like him, too, I fear.

My DH would have a cow if I sold something on Craig's list and had strangers coming to the house. I don't know what the Charles Ng case is, but is sounds bad.
