This is Mom's Big Weekend!!! (Surgery)

Hi all,

We were visiting Mom yesterday and in popped her doctor.

He's going to put her on the list Friday for surgery over the weekend. She'll have surgery either Saturday or Sunday.

Imagine doing elective surgeries Easter Weekend!

This will have her small intestine bypassed so that her GI tract works correctly, and her waste goes out her ostomy bag, as it's supposed to. Right now her GI (solids) tract and urinary tract are "communicating" and her waste is coming through her catheter.

That's why she's bee unable to have solids for weeks.

This surgery will allow her to have solids and hopefully come home in a while. I asked if she'll be going into CCT afterwards, and he said, no, she'll be right back in her regular room. It's a 3-hour surgery.

He said the best thing we did was wait, so that her strength built up and it has, she looks good. So the first stage is over (the waiting), now the 2nd stage (the surgery). Then she'll be recuperating enough, so that her radical surgery can be done in about 8-9 months, where they'll remove everything in her abdomen. Wow.

Oh, he said her recovery has been nothing short of remarkable. Yaay.

So if you can, please keep Mom in your thoughts and prayers this weekend. You've all been terrific!

I'll be praying! "He" always listens when I pray for others, not so much when I ask for things for myself.

I am still hanging in there, and as far as I am concerned if I don't laugh about all my drama I would be crying. I will be glad to have the gallbladder surgery over with, it has been on my mind and the sooner we do it the better. Just hope I get over this sinus infection and start to feel at least some what normal by Tuesday. I just hope to make it through the holidays, this was the first week without any help and with all of us sick it was a long week, with everyone sharing their colds with each other. I want to go out and have some fun shopping tomorrow, but with my head feeling like it could explode and being exhausted, I am afraid that I would be worse off if I go instead of staying at home, especially since it is a hour drive one way to go shopping. It depends on many things....your mom's age and general health mostly. From all that I know, it's really no big deal. She will feel better after not worse. The incision is not cutting any abdominal muscles nor is there any bone involved and she says "don't come"....so don't. She will be home either same day or the next and can call your sister if she really needs something. Save your visit for another time. Look at it this way....by the time you get to the airport and make the trip and get to your mother's from Logan.....she will be all recovered. I vote listen to your mom!! Linda C

Sounds like good news on all fronts with your parents ! I hope that your brother gets stable quickly and can get back home soon. Taking care of your parents is a lot of emotional and physical work. But it is worth it. I had full care of my 92 yr old Dad in their home for 6 months and then Momma came and lived with us for 3 years. Her health had been neglected while Daddy was in need. We then discovered that she had lymphoma when she came to live in our home. Take care of yourself and I hope that you can all spell each other and stay strong. c

"Priscilla Presley must have gone to Walmart for her work." Have you heard of "Botox parties"? They're very popular in the Hollywood/Los Angeles area. Someone will host the party at their house -- a plastic surgeon comes and does Botox injections for anyone there who wants them. I have no idea what the cost is, as I've never been to one... Anyway, Priscilla Presley had gone to that type of party with the intention of getting some injections that are, ultimately, temporary. But, it turned out that the "doctor" wasn't a licensed physician at all -- he only had a nursing license. AND, he used industrial grade silicone. The guy was arrested and is, I believe, still serving time.

Awwww, Hon, what you and your Mom have been through. Of course my Prayers are being sent for a REAL good out come from the surgery. Your Dear Mom just proves....Ya just can't keep a good woman down!!!!

Awww...this is such wonderful news!! Your Mom is always in my Prayers and I know she's going to make a quick recovery from this! Praying she is home SOON!!!!

That's just great. I'm surprised they are doing surgery on any Saturday, not to mention Holy Saturday or Easter. We will be praying for her and I'm so glad she'd doing better. What a relief it must be for you. (((Jasdip)))

Her strength and great attitude are also big pluses in her care.
