I was reading Schoolhouse's post on her new hair do~~I want to break up with my hairdresser of 10 years, as others mentioned she does not listen! My hair is curly in the back, a bit straight on top with a big wave on each side of my forehead. I want it shorter up the back and longer on the sides, and I like a razor cut, makes look so much better.

How do you break up with them? Do you ever say anything? My gal works at the mall at JCP and the guy I want to go to also works at the mall~~~I have never seen her walking around the mall, what if I run into her with my new do??

I do consider my hair difficult to cut because of so much going on and it is thick, I color it myself. A gal who just to cut my hair back in the day manages the Star Bucks at the mall, she has hair a bit like mine and this guy does hers~~she told me to GO!

I am going to do it, but what do I say if I ever run into this other gal?? Why do I worry about it??

You shouldn't worry about it. Nor should she get all bent out of shape if she should happen to see you somewhere with your new haircut! I mean, do you REALLY want to put off getting a new hairdresser because of what your other might think?? Just on the outside chance that you might run into her?

I understand your dilemna. What is her schedule? Figure out her days off and try out the new guy on one of those days.

I have naturally curly hair - almost 63. When I was 5, with curls like Shirley Temple, my cousin with the thin straight hair decided she needed a perm but would only go for a Toni if I went too (her family had money, mine did not - guess who "won"). No hairdresser should have permed my hair - talk about a brillo pad! I have hated going to the hairdresser ever since. I am also hair dryer challenged and diffuser challenged. So I stick my head under the tap to wash it and then add some curl enhancer and that is it. Yet when I go for my colour and cut (yesterday) I always have it blowed straight - by someone who knows how to use a brush and dryer - not just swing a dryer around and then use a flat iron - that will kill your hair. While my hair has always been dry - and very thick - it does look very good when done by a hairdresser - I have to be very careful since my hair can be styled in many ways - 95% of which do not suit me. People always ask me why I curl my hair when it looks better straight! As if....Actually, even if I could use a dryer properly, it would take forever for me to dry my hair. I remember being told that post menopause my hair would start to thin out - well it hasn't. I agree re the smell of perms - I would know immediately if someone even came near me. Now if only I suited any other colour than auburn I would be happy. Red is the devil to maintain - good thing I always wear a hat. It is funny, we always want the hair we don't have. Great that you are happy with your perm - but it is funny that my hair looks just like yours after my tap routine.

Busy work day, hence the delay in getting back. Once I get the rest of my stuff put away, I'll add a couple photos. I don't think our contractor has it on his blog yet. @blfenton-I found that 1927 laundry sink on CL. It had the delivery address of the house I got it from still handwritten on the back. The counter next to it is the rest of the marble from our bathroom work. I wash the dog, my hair, paint brushes, laundry and whatever else in it. We used the old laundry hookup water and drainage since we moved laundry to our kitchen. It makes me very happy. I also have the metal legs from the sink and need to come up with something to make out of them.....maybe a coffee table for somewhere out there.... @springoz, I woke up in pain this morning from all that work. Hope you were better off! The bulbs are 1.1 watt LED bulbs so they don't draw much power and they cast a really nice light. I'll be sure to post an evening pic. @outsideplaying, I've been trying to get this done for months. First ran out of product and couldn't find it locally, then ran out of free time for a while. @errant, thanks. It's from Crate and Barrel, the Arbor collection that they don't sell anymore. We have a couple lounge chairs and ottomans as well. Everything has sat covered outside or in the garage for almost four years. It looked awful before I cleaned and treated it. Should have sanded, but that was more than I could commit to! @LynnNm, thanks. I've seen pictures of your space and you win! ;)

@ Omar, Isn't one of the most common Garden excuse, I mean phenomenal,. Can't trim due to over abundance of flowers. :)... When I do, it rips my heart out. Ragna, When I used to hang out at that Xericworld site, those Californian growers would argue about if one should or shouldn't cut the dried Yucca foliage off of the big plants. Many said that it was a no no. I think they were purist about natural form and function. But I go round and round about the issue. I am too confused and conflicted to be a purist.. It sure does make for a neater look but usually every year , I have a bird nesting in the dead foliage. I think the dead foliage layer helps with the xericness of the plant reducing water evaporation and collecting and holding moisture when it falls. . We are in gardens and most of us deliver water and are not in as dry as much of the native areas of these plants. Every year I take some of it off but leaving some. I like using the base fore small tendrils vines to climb on. It comes down to do what you want, there is no right or wrong ways to do it even though we wade through some gardens of strong opinions.. I need to do some more trimming. I got poked out there the other day..

I also have curly, sometimes quite frizzy hair. I’ve been wearing it curly only for the last year after straightening it for years. I am following the Curly Girl method as far as products go, so I don’t use any products with silicones in them. I liked products with glycerine until the weather got hot and humid (glycerine apparently sucks moisture from the air and made me frizzier), but I’ve switched lately to those without. I either co-wash or use low poo, then condition and rinse. I am using a little mousse only on my roots for volume and then gel everywhere. In the colder months, i will use a curl cream before gel. I let it dry all the way, and scrunch. I find if I touch it while drying it gets frizzy, and once the crunchy gel is scrunched out, I try not to touch it again throughout the day. Unfortunately most curly hair will have some frizz, but not touching it, using the microfiber towel or soft cotton t-shirt, and sleeping on a satin pillowcase will help reduce it.

I wouldn't give her a second thought. I have changed hair dressers, even here in a smaller city and don't worry what my previous hairdresser thinks.

Just STOP GOING to her. You owe her NOTHING.

Teresava~~~thanks for understanding my vent/feelings;) And giving me a kind and thoughtful solution, for dumping a person I have gotten to know through the last 10 years. I do not feel obligated, I just try to deal with an ackward situation as kindly as possible~~~

IF she were to ask you about it I'd just say you admired a friends cut who has similar hair to yours and she suggested you go to her hairdresser to see if that cut would work for you. Period, end of conversation, nothing saying you'll go back to her. You really don't owe her an explanation. You shop at more than one store and don't feel the need to explain it to your "normal" store. Change is good!

Just do it - people change doctors, banks, churches etal - just DO IT - no need for any explanation!

cIf it is important to you, I suppose you could send her a thank you note. Then if you run into her, be warm and friendly, not awkward or apologetic. Her comfort will depend on yours. I am 99% sure you are more concerned than she would be though. You have no obligations to your hairdresser. It is normal to make changes.

Oh, yeah - you don't talk to your underwear (especially for ten years).

(Does your underwear last that long?

Some of mine does - but needs a supportive girdle: mid-life crisis (not for the underwear - for me).
