I'm so glad that you are happy with your new 'do. I had my hair cut and colored on Wednesday. It always has to go through haircut shock for the first week. It takes awhile for the "middles" to realize they are now "ends".

My hair is stick straight but I had too many bad experiences with perms in my life, so no more of them for me.

You were brave to try a new stylist. I have been tempted to do that, but I have been with Stacy for ten years and it's hard to change.

My perm years were good, I never felt like me unless I had long curly hair. Not sure why I stopped, it was a gradual thing. Yes I was with my former hairdresser for over 25yrs. We often remarked how long I'd been coming to her salon. In fact I began letting her do my hair when she had her first salon in her home. Now she has a big salon with six stylists. But the last several times I went to her I felt she just wasn't listening to what I wanted and curled it the same familiar way and it wasn't working. That was three or four years ago.

I liked my hair straight but even tho I got it cut regularly it didn't have the body and bounce I really like. Tried setting it on rollers sometimes.

I went to the same stylist for over 20 years, but even when we discussed hair styles before she started I always left with the same do. I finally decided that I wanted no more perms. She argued that I wouldn't like it. I never went back..I haven't had a perm for 3 or 4 years and I love it. She lost a good paying client because she didn't listen. Too bad for her. I am really happy with my hair now.

We're never happy with what we have. I have never had a perm in my life. I have had a bob for many years and I have to bow dry it to death and use an iron to keep it straight. When the humidity hits, I'm done. I also haven't been to a hairdresser in 30 years. Didn't like my last haircut and figured I could do it better.

I tried sleeping on my back for awhile because I didn't want to crush it. lol That didn't last long, I was too sleepy. This morning I used a pick and wet fingers and put it back in place as best I could. I'm curious as to how long this type of curl will last.

Pee-yu, I know one thing this particular perm smells really strong, I have to wait a couple days before I can safely wash my hair. Meanwhile I'd better stay away from crowds. : )

I have naturally curly hair - almost 63. When I was 5, with curls like Shirley Temple, my cousin with the thin straight hair decided she needed a perm but would only go for a Toni if I went too (her family had money, mine did not - guess who "won"). No hairdresser should have permed my hair - talk about a brillo pad! I have hated going to the hairdresser ever since. I am also hair dryer challenged and diffuser challenged. So I stick my head under the tap to wash it and then add some curl enhancer and that is it. Yet when I go for my colour and cut (yesterday) I always have it blowed straight - by someone who knows how to use a brush and dryer - not just swing a dryer around and then use a flat iron - that will kill your hair. While my hair has always been dry - and very thick - it does look very good when done by a hairdresser - I have to be very careful since my hair can be styled in many ways - 95% of which do not suit me. People always ask me why I curl my hair when it looks better straight! As if....Actually, even if I could use a dryer properly, it would take forever for me to dry my hair. I remember being told that post menopause my hair would start to thin out - well it hasn't. I agree re the smell of perms - I would know immediately if someone even came near me. Now if only I suited any other colour than auburn I would be happy. Red is the devil to maintain - good thing I always wear a hat. It is funny, we always want the hair we don't have. Great that you are happy with your perm - but it is funny that my hair looks just like yours after my tap routine.

I used to get my brows waxed and colored when I got my hair colored. My brows are thinner now and I no longer get my hair colored.

lol...this the longest i've had my hair since it grew back, but at that point with summer coming know i'll probably get a "boy cut" who knows...might go to a short pony tail...taboo at 67, lol....

My daughter who got a trade school degree as a cosmetologist, always gives me free hjaircuts. Of course I'm a good tipper! She has never actually worked in the field, she let her license expire.

A good stylist is worth it.

I always get my eyebrows done every time I get a haircut. My stylist doesn't even ask - just does it right after she shampoos my hair while I've still got my head at the shampoo bowl. She only charges $8 for eyebrow wax. A real bargain.

When I was young, I could see really well and I tweezed my eyebrows every day...or as they grew back in. My pet peeve was these old women who let their eyebrows grow back in looking all prickly...like a cactus. Well, as my mama used to say..."keep your smart remarks to yourself." I understand now. I can't see well enough to tweeze them. So I have a little razor thing on a stick and I run it under them every now or then, but half the time I can't tell if I am looking at a hair or another wrinkle.

I haven't had a perm in 31 years. Last time I had one, my entire scalp peeled...what a mess that was....and my baby daughter cried at the sight of me. :D

I am not a hair person. I don't dry it or curly it or dye it or do anything to it. A good hair cut is the best way to go, but if I could cut my hair myself, I would. I hate having anyone touch me. Oh, I can tolerate it, but to go any more often than I absolutely have to, or to get a massage or mani or pedi...never. My hair seems to get curlier as I get older. I don't know what's up with that.
