Pool is done -- just landscaping left to do

I haven't posted any progress pics in a while. But, we finally have water in the pool. All that's left is landscaping. We are in the process of deciding what we can plant that the dogs will leave alone.

The specs:

35.5' X 18'

3.5'-8'9"

9' spa raised 18" w/ a rock spillway into pool

18" raised bond

medium gray plaster

If you like the view back there and aren't concerned with privacy across the back since there is plantings already doing some coverage, I would put wrought iron or something to that effect across the back. Tie it into a wood privacy fencing on the sidelot lines. We have wood fencing 6' high around the perimeter of our yard for privacy and then have the pool area split with a 4' wrought iron type fencing to give us a play area for the rug rat yet be able to view all the landscaping and pool section from either side. Personally I think a 4' wood fence would look odd. I can dig up some pictures if you are interested.

If its a pressure side sweep (Polaris x80 or a Legend) that is your likely source of the 3" loss. When pulling the sweep out, always remember to disconnect it from the port in the pool too. If the pool is too low to run the skimmers, shut them off until it's refilled. Then check your pool chemistry. The hardness may be low as well as the alk and pH depending on your fill water. Scott

You should have been budgeting for a complete pipe replacement for 3 years now. This guy was exceptionally honest with you. The guys you used for 3 years are the ones that didn't tell you the truth. Any time a pipe has roots growing in it, it's broken. Roots cannot get into modern PVC plumbing pipes without a hole. Old terra cotta pipes, sure. But those should also have been budgeted for replacement if that were the case. Investigate a home loan if you have to, but start thinking major plumbing project here. You want to have him take a look at a lot of things when this is done. Like your main supply. If you have a hole dig, it's smart to replace everything that you can at one time.

I think the only code issue that applies here is the riser height which yes, RG, is 7 3/4" so even if the other riser is off, it still complies with code because these are not considered stairs which my understanding is any set of steps that are at least 3 in succession are considered stairs and must comply with applicable codes (like a hand rail and riser height conformity). But regardless of code, the riser heights are just too far off for any reputable contractor to think they did a decent job. Codes for steps and stairs are for safety concerns, and everybody knows riser heights with different heights in succession cause the brain to get confused. Especially for the elderly. I suggest you put aesthetics aside and focus on safety, workmanship and the integrity of your contractor to do the right thing.

I love the color of your water, and I'm sure with landscaping your backyard will be a South-Western Paradise. One question, considering your location. How hot does or will that slide be during the summer months?

Wow, it looks great. Just beautiful. I didnt know artistic pavers came in that size. I thought 12x12 was the biggest when I looked into them. Who did the interior finish for the pool?

mkf: Only time will tell how hot the slide will get. I think it will be fairly hot. I'm hoping that if the kids are wet before they climb up it won't be too bad. I'll let you know in the summer.

Padrefan: The plaster is a medium gray. We wanted a water color similar to the ocean blue, though. Thanks, we love the bar stools, too. We ordered them from a local artisan.

Mindy, is that the "gray granite" color on your Turbo Twister? That's the color we were going to do, but it looks darker in your pics than I expected. We may do the "sandstone" instead. I like the grey better, but the Texas sun really beats down in the middle of the summer...

Yes, that is the Gray Granite Turbo Twister. If I could have a do-over, I'd go w/ the Sandstone.
