I saw it yesterday for the first time, and I think I said something like OMG. I love long hair, but there comes a certain age when most women really need to give it up. That includes me, unfortunately. I miss my long hair, but I know I look better with it shorter. Long hair can really drag a face down, and make older women look.......older.

Yes when I saw her last night on TV, I was concerned. She looked pale, tired and generally unhealthy looking. She does look better in short hair, but then I think all of us older gals look better in short hair.

I have hair exactly like hers--thin and fine. That's why it's short. I would think short hair would be much easier to manage with all the travel she has to do and the humidity levels of the countries she visits. I guess hair is the least of her worries right now.

With all the stress, traveling, etc I am surprised she still appears to be as alert as she is. I am lucky sometimes to get my hair styled etc as much as I would like it and I am retired (tired!!) I think she is retiring at the end of this term.

I would imagine that she, as much as we, wish that a stylish, easy to maintain hairdo were available for her type of hair. I think she keeps it longer just so that she can pull it back or put in a twist. When she was the first lady she had someone available to keep her looking great, but in the position she has now, traveling the world, with a rigorous schedule, she's left to do it on her own. I feel sorry for her with her hair problems, but I'm sure with all the other problems she has to deal with in her position, that's probably the last thing on her mind.

Good for her. Maybe she just got tired of the "power cuts" and long hair makes her feel more feminine. Maybe Bill likes it. Maybe she said enough is enough to the fussing that short hair styles need.

The idea that older women have to have short hair is so passe. Unless you have a very fine featured pixie like face or are really young short hair isn't all that becoming. All it does is announce that you are older. Kind of like mom jeans. There is absolutely no reason an older woman has to have short hair.

Hilary is in her mid 60s. Everyone knows it. Short hair isn't going to make her look 50 again. So she should wear her hair like she wants.

I never liked her hair so short. It made her face look too round. I agree that she didn't look so good yesterday. Where did I see her? 60 Minutes? She is really showing her age and stress shows in her face. Her hair is too long now and pulls her face down. She and I are the same age and sometimes I am tempted to let my hair grow, but as soon as it gets longish, I look older.

Actually I think her hair is naturally curly. Can you lose curl as you age? If you watched the PBS documentary about Clinton, it talks about how Hillary had thick wild curly hair when she moved south to be with Bill. She looked too Northern and so had her hair straightened and styled. I don't know, though, it looks very straight now.

I saw her in person once. I was at a meeting in New York and she was giving a speech in the same building. I was standing there when she walked out of the elevator. She is tiny with very pretty blue eyes. I think her hair was short, but I can't remember!

I've seen some older women with white long hair and it looks just fine! Society shouldn't dictate how long your hair should be. Kind of reminds me of the no whites after labor day rules! Having said that, I haven't seen her new look.

I've been watching her grow it out and I don't think it flatters her at all, she was much more attractive when it was short or bobbed. Now she looks gormless.

One of my best friends has very long, curly grey hair, and it's gorgeous! She gets complimented on it all the time. But it's fairly well known that straight lines down the sides of the face (even not terribly long straight lines) do have a tendency with most people to accentuate down-turned aspects (lines, sags, etc.) of the face.

As for short hair, I don't think it's possible to generalize (for example, Wildchild's statement that all short hair does is announce that you're older) because "short" hair is a loose term that covers a wide variety of styles and lengths.

I really dislike seeing women with grey hair that is shoulder length or longer. I have a friend whose grey hair is probably down to her waist. I would never say anything to her about it because I think her DH likes it that way.
I think Hillary's hair looks better at chin length. Her hair has always seemed to be a problem for her.

I agree with Linda, her hair has always seemed to be a problem. I just cut my hair because it was getting very long and honestly, I've worn my hair short all my life and just don't know how to care for long hair, I think Hillary's problem is exactly the same as mine except she's always worn it long with no bother, pulled back or with a headband, when it's short, she doesn't know what to do...

Short, fine, thinning, starting to grey hair here. I never was able to have a thick braid, ponytail, whatever. It looked sparse even when I was young. A short style works for me, using gel and hairspray for volume. Some women don't realize that certain long hairstyles can make them look older, not younger.

You could be right, Ruthie. I think she has looked haggard and exhausted for quite some time now, poor thing. She has been through a lot over the years.

I think she is just not a "hair" person--doesn't want to fuss with it. I'm the same, hate messing with my hair.

Even with age, it appears Hillary's hair remains thick and healthy. I envy her for that. Because she does seem to have hair with good body, I also think she looks prettier with it short.

She does look tired, but woo hoo for all you do Hillary!! I respect you so much.

It is her hair......she probably knows it isn't the style people would like to see but it IS her decision.

I think it's too long for her, but I think she wants versatility. She can wear a tail or a bun if she wants. I think I'd like it better in a short bob, but regardless, she is one fabulous woman. Makes me proud of my gender.

I think it looks just fine long, when it's pulled back. Her hair looks like it's a pita just like mine and styling it every day is a lot of work and takes a lot of time, I think with it long and pulled back, it looks OK on her but not down, long and unfixed.

Naturally, my hair is icky gray, so I have it colored light blonde. It is down my back and once a week, I curl it for church and get lots of compliments. I only grow it long because I can get it up off my neck when I work outdoors.
Other than for church or an event, I don't wear it down - it's always in a pony tail and wrapped up on the back of my head, so it looks short most of the time. My hair is VERY thick, coarse and straight as a string.

I do worry about her stress level, along with that of President Obama. Both look more haggard and grey-haired of late.

She looks good in that photo. That's why I think she wants it long. More options if you're having a bad hair day. I saw her on the news tonight, and I agree that she looks weary.

Some older women look fine with longer hair. Some don't. It's a personal choice, IMO.

Personally, I dislike very short hair on women, it makes them look masculine to me. A little length is more feminine. Plus, you can wear it up and change the style more than you can with very short hair.

I doubt she cares about it much.
