PVC connections between two rigid points difficult!

Between a PVC T where a faucet connects to the ground is, say, 30 inches, and will contain a shut-off valve, then continue to the pipe rising out of the ground (all PVC except for the valve). I find it very hard to measure the pipe so that all of the fittings work together.

Is it helpful to use a threaded coupling? I have one, but don't know how long to make the part leading to the coupling and then for the part going to the ground vertical pipe.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
